PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

ok so people are like what is the big deal right? here's my dot point version

1 - 3. Welcome to the world, where plans always change. Maybe just maybe they still plan on doing most of what were saying back then. Maybe they realized a lot of things were a bigger task than initially thought and had to delay a lot of it. Over paying for a video game doesn't guarantee you anything.

4. This is a problem but it doesn't really have much bearing on the games design, you just don't like how he's conducting himself. He isn't required to say anything to you.

5. Sold out to consoles how? By releasing it to one like they had been planning? With Xbox one doing their Early Access program and the game releasing on the console, I agree with them that this was a sound decision. Especially considering the more action oriented style of the CQC. It's definitely something that console gamers can latch on to. They get to be the ones putting up with the testing as well. Sounds fine to me.

6. It's not exclusive, we are going to get it as a free update later, after it has been tested. This is a free update that will simply be tested on console first. The phrase console exclusive is use for something different than what it is they are doing. Semantics, whatever.

7. Assumption.

8. Yes there are bugs from 1.3. I'm sure there are bugs left over from release too. The rest of it is an assumption.

9. This is true, except the part where they lied. They didn't lie, plans changed since they realized they couldn't pull it off in a way that made sense to them. This is very common in game development.

10. More communication would be great but you aren't paying taxes here. You spent money on luxury entertainment that evolves and changes over time, perceived promises don't mean anything in this industry. Nothing is 100%. I don't feel ripped off, I'm sorry that you do. Resources being diverted is an assumption, unless you have a statement saying that they have had to divert all of their attention to release the console version. Wasn't there news of them hiring more staff?

11. No one told you to pay a LOT of money to Frontier based on perceived promises. You control your wallet, you control your hype, you need to stop trying to act like they owe you more than what they are doing. It isn't like they've stopped developing the game and left EVERYTHING out. This game will likely be in heavy development for years to come. Use some of that money you splurged to buy some patience.

I know what it's like to pay for a game and have it not work out the way you want it, I have a few complete duds on my hard drive. Some people are really just taking every single opportunity and every single action taken to voice some crazy complaints though. A lot of sound concerns and complaints are voiced on the forums, but when you get on the entitled train, it sounds silly and really tarnishes any points you may have had. You aren't entitled to anything. At any moment the plug could have been pulled from this game, like so many before it, but it's been released and it's still being worked on. I've quietly complained, mostly off of the forum, that the game needs more content and depth since release, but they are adding more over time. There's not much more I can ask of them. What do I say? Hurry up? Why, it already seems like they push patches out faster than they should due to the bugs that release with them. I've been enjoying Power Play, despite any bugs I've run into.. and really, I haven't run into as many as others have. That doesn't mean they don't exist of course.

In the future, don't give a developer so much money, it may prevent a lot of the feelings you are having now because of it. You could even wait until the game is fully released before you give them ANY money, like everyone used to do. If that means the game doesn't release, then it just wasn't meant to be. Isn't that better than feeling how you feel right now? Remember that when you join in on these kickstarters, that you are helping subsidize a game the developers want to make, not the one that you want to make. They just hope that you enjoy their creation and of course, not everything goes as planned all the time. Giving them a couple hundred bucks doesn't make you a publisher and it doesn't make you the boss. You can be upset that it's not turning out how you'd like it, but you can't act like they owe you anything. If you get that emotionally invested, maybe another hobby needs to be found, like developing your own game and managing your own studio.

So you're saying the platforms won't be treated fairly, and one platform could get a certain feature way ahead of the rest? This sounds like it has serious potential to fragment the community.

You can't win Michael; don't bother with them...

it's Not about who gets what first .. it's about what is being done to make the game better ... this doesn't .. I don't care who get's what when. just as long as we move forward into a better game .. this is an add on .. just like Power Play, this is not moving forward.

I can agree with that, it's more of a lateral move since it likely is a mode and not part of the universe. Right? I'm okay with it since I doubt that it means no more dev time for the rest of the game.

The video ship motion still looks spline-scripted to me - I would be VERY surprised if that sort of motion is achievable by a player with m/kb or HOTAS. Even with a Rift.

IMO it will be slower, more balletic rather than 'ballistic', much like the Wings trailer compares to actual in-game ship motion.

Still, that said I'm looking forward to the arena - great way to get more practice in for PvP etc! Hoping it brings more PvP confidence to more players who'll venture out to Open.

So you are trying to act mature by calling people on this forum arrogant instead of offering counter arguments to the points people are making? To me that is immature.

There are no points in calling other people "kiddies", because they play on a different platform. There is just pure, immature arrogance.

Well I've spent a little bit of time with the XB1 release, and so far there has been absolutely no sign of any Arena mode. The training scenarios have changed, you are now in a Cobra with gimbal lasers and uncontrollable railguns for the Faceoff against another Cobra. I've not gotten past that yet - as the controls are horrible.

Not really, they want to develop the game for another 5-10 years... It has only just begun.

People often confuse that bit.

They actually mean 'want to develop ON the game' - They are preparing their product to be used as cash-cow which would raise cashflow for various other things FD might have up their mind. Every single clue since release points in that direction.

They surely not going to spend another dime on actual development

- Staff has been already seized to minimum
- No existing roadmap or any sign of a plan on FD's side
- No communication about further plans
- They are not even responding to questions about the DDA anymore
- and overall FD's fear of their shareholders (which shines through in every interview with braben or brooks)

It's dead, Jim!

sorry but that's how it is

That seems like a big accusation and assumption to me.

Anyone wonder why powerplay seems slapped together and the 1.3 bugs aren't being fixed? Well, we now have content exclusively for Xbox, I wonder how we ended up with this arena mode developed? Could they have *gasp* taken away developers from Powerplay while keeping the lessened amount on the same time table?

I think for anyone moaning at people moaning then they should think about the implications of this post. It is logically valid. In the long term "arena commander" on the xbox may make enough money to actually finish the pc version, but time and resources have gone into building it that have taken away from the current pc version. Not only that but they will continue to do so unless Frontier hire a new team to cover this.

This is just one of many reasons people are not happy. There are also many positives to take from this (at least potentially), but I am sick of people on here ing about people being unhappy. Admittedly if you are unhappy you need to state why in a calm and rational manner, but to call them entitled is ridiculous... Especially if they paid four, fives or ten times more than you did for this game and are now being asked to buy it again on the xbox! This doesn't make them entitled but it does raise the stakes somewhat.

This forum has become too divided IMO and many people on both sides are too rude, immature and dismissive to even begin to have a civilised discussion about a game we all obviously care about or we wouldn't be here!

For my part I am done with general discussion and will go back and hide in the VR section, as it is only aspect of game that I am passionate about anyway.

We've always said that we will look at other platforms after the PC and Mac release and of course we want to be successful on every platform we support. That includes continued development on PC as well as moving onto new platforms like the Xbox One.

Michael

Thats great and all, but when are you planning on actually finishing the game? Or adding all the stuff still missing from the kickstarter? Or giving out free paintjobs? Or giving the people who payed to have all dlc all the skins? Or adding offline singleplayer?
What ever happened to the elite dangerous I backed?

I'm a bit mixed on this. On one hand, I like the idea of Frontier getting more money from Xbox users to continue to develop the game. On the other hand I'm not sure that the Xbox community will essentially be beta testing the PVP mode for the PC community. I'm worried that the mode will still come with a host of bugs which would be awful. It also really sucks that this appears to be just an exclusive grab for microsoft. How long is it exclusive? Do we know? Can they even say? I wouldn't mind so much if it was a month or two, but I would be extremely annoyed if this turned out to be a 6-12 month exclusive feature for xbox or if they got even more exclusive content. I also feel (judging by gaming forums) that Elite will do poorly on consoles. The constant mention on these other forums that No Man's Sky "looks boring" makes me very hesitant to think that Elite will pull major numbers. I do feel a little frustrated with the direction that Elite seems to be going in, but I didn't even back the game so I really can't be too upset. I'm really hoping us PC users get something in the meantime like a passenger system or mission refinement or something.
