Can the beta-backers have a little private meeting?

As a constructive response, I am against this.
I'm not going to write a post like a 5 year old, and whine for the sake of it... but here are my reasons to not liking the decisions so far:

About CQC:
1) CQC doesn't fit into the lore of Elite in the slightest.
2) CQC seems to be targeting the demographic of console players (as mentioned by FD themselves... "It's a perfect fit for Xbox players")
3) FD said they would never compromise the game for console players... they've gone back on their word

CQC is inevitble, so there's no point demanding it not existing, it's coming out whether players like it or not... but in regards to Xbone getting it first:
1) Kickstarter/ Beta backers paid a lot more for the game than other people. With the promise of early access to content and beta testing, it was part of an agreement on Kickstarter.
2) Why are FD giving the beta access to new console players? They have 0 experience with the game, and their feedback will not be based on existing knowledge. Their feedback will be literally worthless. Only experienced players can provide valuable feedback, since the balance between ships are known already. (Get ready for "Ermigerd, Beam laser is OP!")
3) PC is lead development platform. They should focus beta tests on PC first, not on console. Console should only beta test their console product, not an entire new game mode, regardless of what it is.

So these 2 points are bugging me. I'm not going to hate on the game or anything, I love ED. I'll continue to play it (no rage quit post here!), but FD's decisions are going back on their word.

CQC is being used to iron out bugs caused by porting ED to the Xbox, I highly doubt it has much to do with game mechanics.

No Ian, the problem is they don't do it enough. If Frontier had been telling us about CQC, people would have been excited for it, hype would have been built up, yes people would have complained, it's called FEEDBACK, the feature would have been tweaked and people would have been happier. People without XBox's would have said much much earlier "hey what about us?" and this whole rage all in one go would have been placated over many months.

But no, Frontier think the best business model is to keep things to themselves, keep their customers in the dark, and spring this stuff on us suddenly after months of nothing, and wonder why there is all this rage on the forum.

There is another aspect to this. Frontier are no-longer free agents here.

Firstly they're a floated company with all the rules that The City impose upon them with regards to announcements of products and news. Secondly, in this case they have to follow Microsoft's lead. Microsoft will have wanted a big splash for the launch of their new service and as such would not have wanted anything to leak at all.

However much those in FD may have wanted to tell the community it's highly probably that they were legally bound not to. Please remember this.

As for CQC there's nothing in Elite lore or culture against it. It's a fun little game you can play if you want to, or ignore.

As for your second list, I was a £5K Kickstarter backer. If anyone should be up tight it should be me, but I'm not. You see I can look beyond the "I should have got it first" and see that actually it's not a problem. In fact, using the XBox One port to test the PvP system is a good move as the networking is simpler and reliable, allowing the work on the CQC part to concentrate upon those optimisations. This means that when it comes over to the PC and Mac ports it will be better.

As for compromise for the consoles, I can't actually see that at all (so far).

In what way does CQC not match "the lore of Elite", Flappers? It's a perfect fit. Every CMDR in this game is seeking the glory of being recognised as Elite. The honour and acclaim of being an interstellar champion is exactly the same spirit.

I will take e) Being angry that PP bonuses and RES are not working properly and the heads of the company leave for an expo to announce that xbox users pay less than retail for early access while we payed more than retail.

This is a fair comment ... but replace CQC with PowerPlay ... replace someone digging into the code with Frontier being honest about it ... replace not telling us, with telling us (would it really hurt for Michael to post on here "We can't discuss this because of a deal with Microsoft"?) I've been here a while and knew long ago about Frontier's relationship with Microsoft, an XBox version of Elite Dangerous was no surprise to me, but don't tell me Frontier had no choice in things.

If Microsoft are going to mess with the development of Elite Dangerous, I'd rather not have Microsoft. I'm surprised they (MS) haven't messed with Minecraft ... maybe Microsoft aren't that stupid.

"Please tell the show audience... that... <sniff> we simply CANNOT go. There's a bug... in our asteroid belt... it makes the ships in there too easy to kill... we CANNOT LEAVE THIS BUG CAUSING HAVOC..."

"...so the heads of the company are STAYING! We're rolling up our sleeves..."

(developers: "Oh no")

"...checking out a working copy ourselves..."

(developers: "Oh my God")

"...and we're gonna FIX THAT DAMN ASTEROID BELT! Yeah! High-fives all round!"

(developers: "Next they'll want top-mount monitors with spinning cubes and someone to give them all bl---")

"...CAN WE GET SOME SPINNING CUBES IN HERE?"

A few points.

I do not care, so all the options. As I do not own an Xbox, I deleted my £5 email. I only do PvP once in a while, too intense for me all the time. I think an Arena would put me in hospital.

Not gonna play arena when it comes to the PC, I think some people will get a kick out of it - good. Even if it was coming to the PC beta backers first, I think I would still avoid just not my thing.

Just curious, what is the difference between this and alpha when they introduced PvP for the first time in ED on PC, early in the development cycle?
I hope and would expect the same tools on the console version early in the development cycle, but targeted at the new audience with more polish, I mean FD have already done this once before on the PC.

We knew X-box had a timed exclusive, that was announced when they announced X-box version. I am just glad it turned out to be this and not the Thargoids :) Just imagine this thrread if it had been first glimpse of the Thargoids - shudder.

So you are fine with releasing bugged content because they want to show off at some trade show ?

Well just catching up and cant see a problem with this, at least they will get all the Bugs and not us.... :)

For me watching that video and seeing the in-ship screen the combat and turning was a bit fast to the current game, does this mean the CQC will use different flying mechanics, but this will not prepare them for the actual game....

Or is the current game going to get a speed boost in how quickly we can turn corners and stuff

Another question on CQC - they describe it as "instant action" so, where is it!? Is this proving ground in one central place that people have to actually fly to if they want to participate in it?

Or have they completely broken that aspect of ED too - and you will simply be able to access it from anywhere?

I like it how people seem to think this fictional future is utterly devoid of sport or competition. As if the whole human race somehow devolved into a species that existed solely to transport goods, gather resources and fight for personal or political reasons.

No, there's no way humans would hold a competition in the elite galaxy. Humans in the future have eliminated any desire to enjoy sport and have purged the will to compete. No one has any fun.

Now where is my  emoticon?

1. We paid more than retail to alpha/beta test.
2. xbox users are paying less than retail to beta test.
3. We already have an experienced pvp community with hundreds of hours of flight time who are better suited to give feedback on a pvp module.
4. We didn't want the arena module to start with because we've been crying out for content and hoped fd would be putting their time in to new content rather than an arena module. Since they didn't put the time in to content for the main game (stuff from the ddf etc) we feel entitled to have access to it as for a lot of payers we feel like we're in limbo right now waiting for fixes or promised content.
5. 1.3 breaks some of the pvp roles so a lot of players are looking for something to do until fd fix it. Tons of reported bugs from the beta bug forum are still in the game.
6. A lot of us think the 1.3 release was half baked due to them working on the E3 release (see 5).

"Distance" allrdy wrote it pretty clearly. i agree 100 % with the above
