Can the beta-backers have a little private meeting?

Well just catching up and cant see a problem with this, at least they will get all the Bugs and not us.... :)

For me watching that video and seeing the in-ship screen the combat and turning was a bit fast to the current game, does this mean the CQC will use different flying mechanics, but this will not prepare them for the actual game....

Or is the current game going to get a speed boost in how quickly we can turn corners and stuff

Historically FDev crank up the speed for their trailers in an attempt to make the game seem better paced and more engaging.

So you are fine with releasing bugged content because they want to show off at some trade show ?

I'm fine with the workflow and development cycle of Elite build updates and releases. Looks like pretty typical software build approach to me, for industries not related to aircraft, lifts, medical equipment, spacecraft and weapons!

And I'm fine with FD project management setting release deadlines, deciding on content to go into each point-release and then doing their best to deliver. Sometimes deliveries are smooth, and sometimes the content list turns out to be a monster in disguise, and gobbles up time and resources way beyond expectations.

And I'm fine with FD promoting Elite at trade shows. And who in their right minds would cancel flights, accommodation, rooms, stage bookings, etc. lined up for a sales/marketing team because the code wranglers are busy working through post-update fault-finding? Be serious!

This is getting too confusing. Can you guys let us know what you are angry about?

A) CQC is a terrible addition and should never be part of ED.
B) CQC is a fantastic addition and we should play it before XB1 players.
C) Both.
d) I don't know, I have been angry for so long I keep forgetting the cause.

Hellloooo, sorry I'm late, did someone call!?

Just to re-assure, CQC is a great idea for the multiplayer aspect - it's exactly what the game needs for the modern online generation, particularly the console players, IMO. It gives the people who want their name up in lights on the internet exactly the tool they need to do what they want with the game, and yet it keeps the rest of the game unaltered for those old farts like me who like it old skool. I couldn't figure why it hadn't been in there far earlier on, so in my mind, this is a case of "about time"...

1. We paid more than retail to alpha/beta test.
2. xbox users are paying less than retail to beta test.
3. We already have an experienced pvp community with hundreds of hours of flight time who are better suited to give feedback on a pvp module.
4. We didn't want the arena module to start with because we've been crying out for content and hoped fd would be putting their time in to new content rather than an arena module. Since they didn't put the time in to content for the main game (stuff from the ddf etc) we feel entitled to have access to it as for a lot of payers we feel like we're in limbo right now waiting for fixes or promised content.
5. 1.3 breaks some of the pvp roles so a lot of players are looking for something to do until fd fix it. Tons of reported bugs from the beta bug forum are still in the game.
6. A lot of us think the 1.3 release was half baked due to them working on the E3 release (see 5).

There we have it, the start of number four (4) says it all.
PvPers didn't want it - but don't want anyone else to have it either.
This is EXACTLY what I said in the Open mega thread. Some of you just want to mindlessly pew pew defenseless haulers and nothing more.

Well, I for one am happy CQC is coming because I will play that.
I am also happy for the XB1 crowd. I don't play on the XB myself, consoles have never interested me but this may lure more folks into the game which I feel is a good thing.

And I'll bet even more that Eve Valkyrie blows both out of the water for that type of game. :p
Elite isn't "Strike Vector" while it's a totally awesome game it's not Elite and I'm glad.

"Distance" allrdy wrote it pretty clearly. i agree 100 % with the above

I'm pretty sure that they want to develop content based on the xbone's hardware because it's probably easier to bring that to PC than to downgrade content developed for superior hardware to work properly on xbox. I also understand why backers would be upset about not receiving new content simultaneously if not first. Aside from the fact that some backers expected an arena mode and a race mode I do agree with most of those comments. I'm very wary about this type of mode, I've seen it destroy other games and I really like the open world design Elite has already.

(More here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=157268&p=2406031&viewfull=1#post2406031)

I'm not even going to complain about the price difference but I did spend around $600.00 in upgrades to play Elite once I saw it's potential but now I'm kinda unsure.

Not read the whole thread, just the OP, but i am a beta backer, and i will just repeat here what i said in another thread.

ED on xbox can only be good for the game, if you don't nit pick the small details like CQC is XBox One exclusive atm, and look at the bigger picture you will see this is a good move.
More player bases mean more players = good for the game, more players mean more money for ED = good for the game.
As PC players, all this means more future support (hopefully more content) = good for the game.
So all in all my summary is = good for the game.

Hi,

i payed for my premium beta account because i wanted to play the game but also because i wanted to support DBs and Frontiers vision represented in Kickstarter and the DDA. I read the DDA about 10 times and thought this ideas are awesome. A dream would come true. :D

Why i'm annoyed by this XBox Release is not that they get some goodies exclusivly. I really dont care. I'm annoyed because Frontier is taking development resources away from the PC Version and the features promised to us who invested in this vision. They delay everything else for something i did not want to support. They delay making the game descriped in the dda because they need manpower for the xbox version and all this exclusive features.

They postbone completing their vision just to get as much money as possible out of it.

This is the standard counter argument when anyone speaks up on the forums. "It's not your game, quite whining"

It is a somewhat bitter statement of an obvious truth. FD gave up on the DDF ages ago - at least a year. Clearly premature IMHO, but it's their call. What is more worrying is that in large part they seem to have given up on their own design as published in the DDA. Certainly there are absolutely core things in the DDA that are still not in the game, whilst they have added things like powerplay which went nowhere near the DDF (it seems very likely that much of the whining about PP we have today would be less, or no existant, had they run it past a group of players first), and CQC - when someone in the DDF brought up arena mode, or a training simulator (as we did) FD said it was not in the game that they wanted to build.

...which can then be pumped back into development.

Frontier works intelligently in the interest of the compagny. We will reap the benefits later on PC / Mac with the big future expansions. CQC does not bother me. After all there is a championship in the galaxy. It is part of life in the galaxy. There will probably rewards for the winners

Let the XB1-owners beta-test the CQC module so we others can have the finished product? Sounds fine to me! Besides, I'm patient enough that I don't have to have 'all the things' the very second they are released.

Have some rep

I didn't understand that part the same way you did. I think what Distance means is that we didn't want the development of a PVP arena to be the main focus of the developpers when the rest of the game is lacking content, and lacking opportunities for the PVP lovers.
When the game has enough content to give players choices and options, yeah sure, make an Arena.

But for now if the devs could focus on fixing the bugs that appeared in the last half-baked 1.3 release, that'd be great.

Yep - I've said it before and I'll say it again:

FD need to give us a statement about the future of DDF features that are still awaiting implementation.
Has the DDF been abandoned for a different direction or will twiddling our thumbs and being patient pay off?

....
I'm not bothered by the console exclusive either.

I'm just bothered by the fact we're being treated like mushrooms - kept in the dark and fed on...
Newly thought of features are welcome but they are not what I payed for.
I payed for the game being described in the DDF - I want THAT game before anything else.

This is so reasonable and had been said so many times over the last six months I just can't figure why FD don't respond.

I didn't understand that part the same way you did.

That's because either you've not been part of the Solo/Private Group/Open mega threads or just ignored what is in them.

The main argument for a while was Solo and Groups destroy any chance of PvP in Open. So it was suggested by myself and some others to ask FDev for an arena, so PvPers had what they wanted.
But as was suspected, those moaning did not (and do not) want a fair fight PvP mode, they just want to gank people who are not interested in PvP.

And now one is being added anyway, those same people begrudge XB1 for getting first.

Whining for the sake of whining imo.

How much content do you have to ignore before you might as well ignore the whole game? (For me it was three major "content" updates, none of which offered me much of anything. YMMV)

That's the danger. All I'm saying here is that I'm done getting worked up about new releases for ED at this point, for the reason you outlined. "major announcements" to be taken with increasing amounts of salt.

Because it would be a no-win situation for them.

Version 1: "We haven't forgotten the DDA and we're going to do it." Response: disbelief and later on rage when they can't fulfil that promise.
Version 2: "We've dumped the DDA because we realised it's impossible." Response: outrage, empty threats of lawsuits etc.

Much better to just string everyone along and hope they get over it.

Another question on CQC - they describe it as "instant action" so, where is it!? Is this proving ground in one central place that people have to actually fly to if they want to participate in it?

Or have they completely broken that aspect of ED too - and you will simply be able to access it from anywhere?

I hate to quote myself - but I'm really wondering if there is an answer to this that I've missed in the many threads since the news about CQC dropped?

Anyone?
