You have betrayed our trust Frontier. This is not the way to treat your customers and backers

First, Frontier screwed over Backers by eliminating Single Player mode and lied about true reasons for doing it as well. This was done days before the release of the game. SOLO online mode is a on-line DRM protection for Elite Dangerous, not the "shared universe" across all modes.

I don't know if this statement is an exaggeration, or if there's truth to this. Is he saying the political/ economic state of the ED universe we play in when in solo ISN'T updated as it would be in open play? I see the point of DRM issues, but you cant blame a company for covering that.

Also, how much free stuff are early backers expecting to get from frontier? A free XBOX?? Why not ask for royalties while your at it?

- - - Updated - - -

Errr...what? Betrayed? Lied? You have been given all perks you pledged for. Do you expected life long access to everything that comes to ED firsthand? Seriously?

What he said^.

We were promised to experience everything firsthand. "Promised" is the controlling word here.

Please show me where such promise has been given. Please. Remember, *firsthand*.

I will stop you there. There's no such promise been made. You have been promised free access to all major expansions of the game. Not first hand, just free access.

Please, stop fellow backers. One thing is criticizing FD for prioritizing consoles over PC (valid argument there), another one is calling them liars and then providing no evidence and/or laying even yourself. Please no.

I am an alpha backer from US who spent 200 GBR on the game. Mr. Braben previously stated that XBOX ONE and PC players cannot play together because patches on XBOX ONE take longer to upload (because Microsoft needs to approve them) than on PC and MAC, where you can have patches on day 1.
etc. etc. etc.

I am critical as well, but this is too much.
I don't even care about CQC at all. It adds nothing I want from this game and as far as I am concerned it has nothing to do with what Elite is about. It is useless to me personally, but I gather many will like it. Fine by me.

Nevertheless I understand that for a developer it is important to have a large public. The whole Xbox thing is important for us PC gamers too, because it will generate revenue with which this huge space sim project can be funded.
In the end my only concern is that this incredible dream project gets 'finished'. It is truly unique and it would be a crime against space simming in particular and gaming in general if it did not get finished.

The only thing we can do is hope the devs have the right instinct and do what has to be done.

But... I do wish we would get some more immersive content like more diverse stations, imperial station designs, larger complexes, more life around stations: more structures like large ship yards, military defenses, container areas, fuel storages, npc-only ships like maintenance and repair ships, tugs etc etc. True prison complexes, scientific stations with large radar dishes, telescopes, mining complexes etc. More diverse npc military fleets with destroyers, battle cruises, frigates, corvettes etc..
The ED universe needs immersive content.

FD need to add stuff that really enhances the 'everyday' Elite experience for everyone! I think this is crucial. The stuff I mentioned will do so dramatically. PowerPlay adds to it too, because it paints the political canvas that is in the background of the Elite universe.

We backers did our job.

After waiting decades for info on Elite IV we saw the kickstarter and literally threw money at them. Job done, they got our money and the trap was set for the bait-and-switch. Now the focus is on consoles because Frontier can't resist the money M$ threw at them, we no longer matter we are no longer the targeted players. "Thanks for believing the tripe we fed you, now get lost"

I tried to be sympathetic to this alpha backer backlash thing, but after this OP I just can't. Really you all sound like a bunch of spoiled brats. You've had your exclusivity for more than a year. You have discounts and in-game perks that most players will never have. At this point the whining does nothing but make you look bad.

News flash - kickstarter phase is over.
True, they already spent that money getting to where we are. Some think our money bought frontiers souls for the rest of their lives. They owe us forever.

It wasnt that long ago people were worried how frontier were going to fund the future of ED, now a way has been revealed we're upset just cos it looks like someone is getting more than us, when they still got less.

My £200 helped make elite possible to bring elite to a new generation for me and everyone else including console and me again when I buy it on PS4. Why would I now be resentful of that...

And if Cqc had been released on PC first, people would have complained its CQC, I dont want CQC, we are just unpaid testers for frontier and the consoles. Now people are desperate for CQC just cos of envy and not wanting anybody to have anything we dont have whether they really want it or not.

What?
Please tell me you're joking.

More money Microsoft throws at FD, more money for ED development and adding all those nice features we want to see in game.

Majority of you even don't want CQC.

Well, look at it this way(I searching for silver linings!). Xbox players will fumble around with CQC issues, some will get fixed, most will be ignored. Then, when we beta test it prior to integration with PC/MAC we will actually find all the problems and get it patched very quickly. Since the Xbox players are behind MS quality control they will be stuck with their buggy version. In the end, since we aren't locked in the garden, PC still ends up on top.

Well I lack faith after 1.3. Look through the beta forum and see how many reported bugs are still in game and this is from beta players who have been reporting bugs for over a year.

I see no reason for them to make some thing console exclusive even for a test period. The people buying the game on xbox aren't buying it for cqc. If they had released a normal trailer showing off the new xbox features they would still be buying it. They must have known it would make people angry, especially the backers even more so when we're crying out for content since release and this could have been nice to give people who have been playing for a year something to do in the meantime.

I played the 1984 game... it didn't develop new bugs every few days and didn't need an internet connection... y'know it's looking pretty good round about now!

Yes, I see the big picture. Elite Dangerous is on XBOX ONE. It is great for everyone! I agree 100%. However, Frontier should have warned backers before they forked over 200 quid that some parts of the game might not be available for PC version. We were promised to experience everything firsthand. "Promised" is the controlling word here. They should have released CQC at the same time, and if not (Sorry, 5 GBR off does not cut it), they should have given us something for free. Frontier kept the XBOX ONE launch in the dark, as they did with the Single Player. It is a matter of honesty, fairness and integrity, of which, Frontier is in desperately low supply. I am not a privileged one. I was promised something in return for my 200 quid. I was promised to play test things first. Frontier has broken this promise.

Mr. Braben can use his hard earned money as he sees fit. I don't care if he buys golden toilet or an Aston Martin. Is it none of my business. The must have honored their promise. BTW, giving me a free XBOX console was meant as a sarcastic joke. That is because this is the only way I can play CQC now. Frontier kept the XBOX ONE launch in the dark, as they did with the Single Player. It is a matter of honesty, fairness and integrity, of which, Frontier is in desperately low supply.

They haven't betrayed my trust and I don't feel mistreated. If you're steaming because you spent too much money on a video game, maybe don't spend so much money on a video game. You want FD to be held accountable for their actions, but you aren't holding yourself to yours. Get a grip, buy some if you have to since you apparently have so much money to spend on entertainment.

You guys weren't promised anything. You were told plans and things have changed. Welcome to life. Not everything is a promise and even real promises are broken. Your parents should have prepared you for this.

Now, the CQC is available for XBOX ONE and will be available for PC and MAC in Holiday 2015. This is 6 months from now. ... The real reason is the exclusivity. This would be ok if the game was funded by a publisher, however, the game was partially funded by backers via Kickstarter. The reason for exclusivity is that Microsoft wants to sell their XBOX ONE and Frontier wants to get paid.
<sigh>

Who cares? Frontier needs the money, Microsoft wants an exclusivity period in exchange. Consoley thing like instant PvP arena with power-ups and achievements if perfect fit for that. XBone folk get to beta test the CQC thoroughly befor PC/MAC crowd get it. Everyone wins.

Chill and enjoy the game with its quirks and bugs in the meantime. :)

To others (who complain about Alpha/Beta Backers sense of entitlement): been testing and enjoying since Alpha 1.00 early Dec 2013. ;)

Absolutely this. Enough PvP centric content, let's make the galaxy itself more fleshed out and interesting.

Bladerunner, you'll get a better, less buggy and more polished version of CQC soon.
In the meantime, watch this and calm down:

True enough, but after going through the shard debate in Beta/Gamma, offline-gate, 1.1 disaster, limited edition rumble, backer rewards throwdown, the insurance tear up and so many more. I've just about had it with all the drama and around these parts. When it comes down to it, when we are really talking about how one feels as they put their hand on the joystick and launch from the station, I'm very happy with this game and I'm happy with how much FD has worked to make it stable. The 1.3 bugs, imo, are not critical (though I may have avoided them) and could stand to be put on hold for E3 and Xbox release.

Do I think they could do more? Absolutely, especially when it comes to communication, they rank right up there with Valve, EA and other tight-lipped studios.

Now, regarding cqc as exclusive, I'm not sure FD had a great deal of leverage on that (maybe they did, but probably not). I would bet that MS demanded, not paid for, some sort of exclusive content for Xbox. Frontier, being a prudently run business, saw that the potential revenue from going on another platform far outweighed the temporary fallout with the PC player base.

Just my two cents though...in this space of us not knowing what FD is doing or thinking all our opinions are valid :D....well...most

Bladerunner, first, we got what we wanted - Elite game, which gets constantly improved and expanded. Second, it was financed very heavily from FD pockets at the beginning - original budget of the game was 8M, with 1.5M from crowdfunding. So no, backing ED didn't gave us any exclusive control - nor moral one - over how FD deals with game post release period.

Also from practical stand point - Microsoft just gave most likely big shovels of money to FD just to get timed exclusivity for one feature lot of first backers didn't even want - but is very attractive for many young or casual gamers. FD didn't spend their money to develop it, Microsoft did. I really fail to see how FD doesn't have our best interests at heart.

This. If only thing worries me is that CQC is non-feature for me - and for majority of us. However, it can and will attract a bit of sales, which is a good thing.

In mean time I really want FD to get back on track on expanding core gameplay.

I'm embarrassed for the way this makes backers look honestly. This forum.

OT: it's business. They do need to fix the pc version fully though. I can wait for content.
