Why powerplay sucks

Ok, powerplay... yay! Jump into some military strike zones, kill 8 ships. Next,,, wait, I can't collect bounties?

Fine after a while googling I find out you have to go to controlled systems. Wait... what's a controlled system...

fresh google search...

ok got it now. I arrive in a controlled system...

I get 1000 credits....

, cheap power play. That put me right off. I took way more damage then these credits covered. When I find conflict zones I walk away with 300,000k plus for 8 kills.

Ok so what else can I do?

I find the HQ, find the contact, load myself down with marked military arms.

Yay, I have marked military arms...

are marked military arms?? Where am I supposed to deliver these things?!?!

New google search.
Another google search.
A google search.

OMG I'm going to have to read the manual. I get an hour a day to play and now I've got to waste it reading the damn manual.

For gods stake Frontier, make some video tutorials. I'm here to play a game not decode your weird political system.

Now community, you may moan at me. Proceed.

But I'm not wrong, this game is supposed to be fun, not more confusing than learning linux for the first time. Which, btw, was less confusing then this crap.

Um.....it tells you what you need to do in game. Just read.

Although I will say it is kinda hidden away in the powerplay menus.

Kinda? I'd say they need a little less role play and a few more simple directions. Maybe in another colour text?

If it's in the menu's then I can't find it.

Perhaps Frontier should just include a google search engine feature and an ingame browser window. Cause frankly google, these forums, and youtube are doing MUCH better jobs of explaining this than the Frontier team are.

P.S. why are we being reduced to reading text all the time? Would it kill the frontier team to voice act explanations? To do a few interactive tutorials? Something where a player who only has an hour on his hands can go "oh that's how it works" and then get on with playing the game?

Seriously hiding information in menus is what microsoft does with windows features. It shouldn't be as bad as learning an operating system.

Thanks Athan but if I have to go through a 29 page slide show that densely packed with reading material then I'm just going to go back to finding conflict zones and making a fortune that way. I'm sure some uber geek love this super complicated affect the universe stuff. But I'm here to play a damn game, if I wanted to study... I'd go work for a living.

Well, we could go as far as, mind plants while you sleep, but that is really not a legal option, where most people play this game.

The man hasn't tried PowerPlay, doesn't understand it, hasn't even read the manual but he knows it is rubbish. Remarkable prescience. we need more people with his egregious talent.

If you don't understand something, just ask here. None of us understood powerplay a few weeks ago, we all had to learn it from scratch. Everything you need to know has been discussed here at some point. Elite doesn't do detailed explanations about anything, get used to it & use the forums :)

....and the dross? As there is a lot of it? I have to say, I have seen some very good, player/commander made links, during my little time here.

He's not wrong though, is he!

That depends on what one wants out of the game. Personally I am enjoying PowerPlay, but then perhaps I don't have the same instant gratification needs as some players. Each to their own, players who aren't interested need not become involved and there is no wrong or right way to play the game.

Reading manuals is so 1990's gaming. Anyone else remember those boxed games which spill out manuals when you open them?

Oh wait, elite was one of them! lol

It's 2015 now man, we're past manuals. Manuals are something you use when you need to learn Blender 3D, and program in C. I get enough of that in my daily job. You can teach this stuff in fun and interesting interactive ways using the game engine. Elite Dangerous is something we pay for, it's not a peice of open source software were you can slap down a wiki and direct people to it.

Again, remember. This game is being launched on the XBOX One... XBOX gamers are not going to sit down reading manuals. They sit down to play fun games. They don't sit down just so they feel like their going back to school.

They have interactive training missions already, just throw some in for power play. Make learning fun, not a confusing google inducing chore.

who cares about powerplay. For one you dont have to follow it at all. It hasnt effected the way i play the game so far. I joined a faction and havnt done a thing for them really. I am a bounty hunter i kill things that make me money. I dont care if your whatever faction i will kill you for the money. As for trading also i buy low and sell high i dont care what faction you are. Exploration also so what your exploring that doesnt matter at all either what faction is which either.

I think powerplay was a waist of time the devs used personally. Well kind of i guess it does add little more depth the the government side of the galaxy. I would rather had them work on walking around spaceships and stations. Or other alien races and such.

Stop crying about powerplay and just play the game.

The complexity of Power Play doesn't bother me at all. Why? Because I continue play one of the many other facets of the game that I DO enjoy. If it's not for you, do something else. Easy.
