Why powerplay sucks

If you don't understand something, just ask here. None of us understood powerplay a few weeks ago, we all had to learn it from scratch. Everything you need to know has been discussed here at some point. Elite doesn't do detailed explanations about anything, get used to it & use the forums :)

I kinda agree. Except, I didn't have any problems working out exploration. You scan a system and sell the data. Sure I'm down with that. Combat was easy to pick up, so was navigation, piracy etc.

Maybe it's because I'm an old Elite / Elite Frontier / Elite First Encounters player, but I found everything like that pretty intuative. Picked it up in no time.

Also remember that there are interactive training missions showing you how to dock, navigate, fight, etc etc etc. So really that's all good.

Power play is just bewildering. I'm not a genius, but I'm not stupid either I pick up software pretty quick most of the time. But, this power play business isn't well explained, isn't demonstrated, and any feature that basically requires people to post on the forums is an epic fail in my book.

If you need to look on a forum in order to understand a game mechanic, the game is doing something wrong. Immersive gameplay is worth nothing if you need to alt+tab all of the time just to keep playing.

I am enjoying PowerPlay, but then perhaps I don't have the same instant gratification needs as some players

Better tutorials, simple interfaces and intuitive mechanics have nothing to do with instant gratification, it's just better game design. Maybe you enjoy reading manuals, but that's not what gaming is about.

3 phases - Preparation then Expansion then Control. 3 Mission types, 1 for each of the phases. All the systems involved in all those phases can be filtered using the PP view in the galaxy map. From there it's just going to the system & delivering or killing stuff. Talk to the bloke in 'contacts' at each system when you are done delivering or killing. Nothing to it really.

Huh? Ok maybe I am just stupid. Cause I didn't get where I should dump my marked arms cargo at all from that.

...and to date: How long have you been tinkering with PP? Because yes, you have summed it up very nicely.

Or slightly impatient. :) Every system where you can do something has a power contact, it'll tell you where to do stuff. If you go into hostile territory the power contact there will tell you how to undermine them, kill things or take things. If you go to other systems they'll tell you to bring something to someplace. Control systems are marked on the map as 'control systems'. BTW: the 'manual' for powerplay is like 10 pages or something, its not like you're expected to read War and Peace. Put it on your tablet/phone and read it when in the john.

Personally I don't care for tutorial videos, introduction campaigns or whatever. Reading the manual takes way less time and you'll know everything there is to know. Same reason I don't do audio books, just way too slow, or why I cant stand the beginning of each Mass Effect game. Just give me my ship and I'll figure out how to open a door, thank you very much.

Yeah yeah I read the screen it didn't tell me where to take them. It just loaded my cargo bay down. I checked transactions, there's no "deliver to xx by xx" as I'd expect from a cargo delivery.

PowerlessPlay sucks because there's no way to stop Solo/Private group players.
They should split them out into their own save/background sim that has no effect on the Open sim.
It's also buggy, with new bugs introduced in every patch and every week new bugged control/expansion/preparation systems show up that either don't get fixed or get fixed too late to matter resulting in a hand-fixed "gimme".

Powerplay actions are boring as hell. I already haven't completed a single one in cycle 2. What IS nice is the fact that the update gave the game much more of a multiplayer feel than it had before, and there's loads more PvP now. That I do like.

You sure it didn't?

OMG I'm going to have to read the manual. I get an hour a day to play and now I've got to waste it reading the damn manual.

For gods stake Frontier, make some video tutorials.

i swear that in two or three generations from now "reading" will be a forgotten art.

It just doesn't even matter to me anymore, and it makes me pretty sad. I knew when I got in game and saw the pictures of the "powers", all 2D, not animated at all, like a flipping board game. FD headed in the opposite direction of what I thought they would do after release. There's a thousand things they could've done or added to the game before PP, but this is the route they chose to go.

Now with the Xbox getting exclusive timed access to content, that we might get "sometime before the end of the year"? Yeah, I'm just over it. Let the console kids have Elite. They'll be bored of it in a month and on to the next game anyway. When FD decides to slide the PC gamer's the content that they've been adding to the Xbox version, I'll be off playing a real PC game anyway; Star Citizen's, Squadron 42. Consoles will be eating their hearts out.
