Out of Fuel? - Explorer Rescue Service, The Fuel Rats

I thought about it. But then I would have had to write something to push the letters out at 300baud. And have a start-up screen where you connected and it was black while there was an audio of a modem negotiation.

Crap. I kinda like that idea....

Sorry mate, so do i :D

I'm still partial to "Mischief", but I forgot who brought it up first.

Possible compromise (I like Mischief as well). We all of us belong to the Chapter, but when a group go to a rescue we go as a 'Mischief'...

"Sorry Boss, this ain't no solo job, gonna need the Mischief"

- - - Updated - - -

..It means that we won't get a bounty on our tails for rescuing someone!! This is important because ....

We have a tendancy to RAM and SHOOT people by mistake?

i would say we should add a requiremet to put the limpets all alone in a firegroup.

I will add that to the official procedures during the next edit. Good suggestion!

Jumped into his wing beacon about 8 times: noone there
only when i dissolved the wing and rewinged to him alone i could get into his instance.

We need to come up with a solid recommendation for how to deal with instancing problems. Muffindrake's rescuee nearly ran out of air while Muffindrake kept circling around trying to match instances.

Allegedly by mistake.

The Fuel Rats' Legal Counsel (The Hon. Dewey Soakem Goode) suggests that we avoid the word "mistake" and prefer "unexpected unrequested service" and in the case where we wind up delivering "service above and beyond customer expectations" we do not invoice them for the cost of the railgun ammo. The term "ramming" should be avoided at all costs, use "close encounter of the 4th kind" In the event that a Fuel Rat's ship makes contact with a rescuee, explain to them that you were "nudging" them to assist them entering supercruise.

I'm crying. This is hilarious

Yep, dumb luck strikes again. Was down in Eravate for some advertising, and checking in on a dubious CMDR down there when a call came in - In a system less than 20LY away. Just as I enter station to resupply limpets another call came in, only 6 jumps away.

I suspect YOU are the one who's been sabotaging stuff to have them ask for help !
EDIT : yeah, we "allegedly" Nudge people when rescuing them. For the MISCHIEF !

AAAAND another on DIDNT bite the dust...
It was even a very fast rescue: less than 20 minutes from him logging into the irc to him having 4 tons of fuel again ;)

P.S.: Surly Badger: thats my THIRD rescue. Please update the leaderboard, will you?

Hmm, i think i have Streak today. Another Vulture rescued in Tascheter Sector JS-K A8-1.
Sadly the Screenshot didnt work.
and this one was a quick one.
[23:15] * drphilth_outoffuel (Mibbit@mib-B43AE29D.dyn.plus.net) has joined #fuelrats
[23:32] <Loetmichel> already refilled you 4 tons
[23:36] <Loetmichel> 17 minutes ;-)

BTW, the last three rescues were in NLTT 48288 and HIP 113438 and Alrai sector KH-V B2, for Surly Badgers leaderboard :)

You any good at out-running interdiciting Condies?

In an "all A" asp? of course ;-)
and i CAN bite back. That thing has not only exploring and Fuelrat-tech it also has 2 med beam turrets and 4 small gimbaled MCs ;-)
(AND 2 Shield boosters and A5 shields... so not THAT easy to kill even if you fire a bunch of things in the few seconds that you can hit me ;-)

In late-breaking news, GalNet reports suspicious alterations to fuel-metering systems in Alrai Sector. Please report any suspicious activity observed around station pump systems by calling #9999911!!!!

The altered fuel-metering systems have resulted in a number of ships running out of fuel unexpectedly in that sector. More news as it develops.

Our Badger Overlord requested a write-up of the incident that I covered a while ago.

A CMDR Barracuda has narrowly escaped death by angry firing squad in his FDL through jumping into the farthest system that he could find in his navigation panel.

Unfortunately he didn't notice the star to be an unscoopable before draining all of his fuel reserves coming there. In his desperation he enabled the rat signal which I immediately responded to - only 1300Ly away from populated space in my Diamondback Explorer, fitted for exploring. My plan was to jump into the first high-tech system that I could find upon reentering the bubble, in order to refit.

Me about halfway to the bubble, one of the CMDRs pursuing CMDR Barracuda managed to find him - albeit only in a Cobra. The rescuee nearly used up his entire fuel reserve in the battle, but managed to destroy the enemy vessel. Logging out and back in to avoid further murder attempts, Barracuda has been blessed by the rat gods through the gift of a sliver of fuel which extended his life by great duration (he really had no fuel when he relogged).

A while later I finally managed to reenter the bubble and refit my ship for a rescue mission before dashing to Barracuda's would-be grave. Arriving at the destination I instructed the rescuee to enable his wing beacon; I swiftly dropped in. Much to our dismay the matchmaking servers didn't seem to want to place us in the same instance, even after repeated attempts. CMDR Barracuda had only very little fuel remaining, a lot less emergency oxygen due to previous draining.

After rigorous attempts to get the instancing to work, I had the idea of the rescuee entering Supercruise for a short amount of time, then dropping back out - which would undoubtedly drain his fuel reserves.

The rat gods were indeed generous on that day - I was allowed to enter the same instance with CMDR Barracuda. I then gently shoved a bunch of fuel drones down his cargo hatch, enough for him to live. Oh and yeah, jump out of the system.

I then demanded my prearranged (it was a bargain so good he didn't even know we decided it until I reminded him after the rescue!) 80 tons of palladium which were swiftly delivered.

CMDR Barracuda reported 1:12 of oxygen left before receiving the fuel.

As a tribute and thanks to all The Fuel Rats!

A group of us travelled to Sagittarius A* recently and one of our number (Cmdr Ol) had joined up with The Fuel Rats. The cargo hold of drones has remained unused for the trip, but we did wonder what they looked like in action. After some spontaneous roleplay of a tumbling ship in serious trouble by Cmdr Ian Norton, a Fuel Rat came to the rescue! Here's the video of that encounter.

Enjoy!

The Alrai sector is definitely a hotspot while over at the reddit refuel forum 2 of my 3 rescues were in that sector. We also got a ratsignal from 1 jump out of Alrai last night that Alec and I responded to. (above image)
Missing on arrival. The ratsignal was triggered by a friend of the OOF Cmdr that hadn't heard from him in a while. Upon receiving contact the friend confirmed that the Cmdr was no longer in need of aid.
