It makes me wonder why Frontier don't make these polls themselves.
I think that is obvious. If the community came up with a clear and unambiguous list of priorities, it would be much harder for them to deliberately choose to do other things, and it's their game (and all that).
That said, I am pleased to see that the three I eventually came up with are 3 or the 4 most chosen options (exploration - for me, and background sim and persistent NPCs for the good of the game).

As the various options are getting broadly the same support with three choices, maybe a single choice poll would give better results.
You could list the options in the first post of a new thread (then create the poll later on), to ensure that everything gets covered as an option.
Depends what you mean by better. This is a little like the first past the post vs proportional representation conversation. With just one vote, I suspect that thing like persistent NPCs and background sim would get significantly fewer votes (in proportion) than they do now, because people will be more likely to go for what they want rather than the good of the game.
The 'least bad' approach is, I suspect, dependent on the number of options to select from. Perhaps 3 is too many with only 10 options. If there were 20 options, 3 would work pretty well, I suspect
