Anaconda Explorer

What are your reasons for packing the extra tanks?

There were two reasons.
1. I was thinking of going to the RIM on this trip and recall talk of long stretches of non-scoopable stars.
2. No need to scoop as often.

That depends on your power distributor, if it hasn't got a big enough capacitor you won't be able to boost. I wouldn't worry about it however, boosting is unnecessary whilst exploring.

I did actually mean power distributor (which I also have at 5D) but for some reason my fingers dis-obeyed me !! :)

Can boosting make for a better sceenshot with engine trails ?

1. I've seen that said several times but I don't know why. I've been as far as you can go south in the galaxy, as far west and as far north. I've also been as far as it is possible to get from the centre of the galaxy (45K LY) which involves following the low density outer southern arm for about 20K LY. I have never come across more than the occasional non-scoopable star on the actual rim and certainly nothing that the standard 4 jump tank can't cope easily with.

2. Given how slowly the Conda turns, I find it easier to skim the star & refuel on every jump.

Tanks weigh nothing, it's better to have the extra capacity and not need it. On a 40/41LY Conda most of your slots are empty anyway, fill them with AFMU's and Tanks.

I've done multiple deep space trips, even with a 64T tank I have crossed fields of unscoopable stars. Those regions of space are out there, pure chance or bad luck if you hit one. Most explorers refer to them as badlands.

Huge tanks are also handy for traversing large neutron fields. Jump distances are around 4LY in dense areas, you can keep on trucking without refueling.

The tanks weigh nothing but the route planner assumes they are full. If you are travelling in sparsely populated regions such as the rim, you will really appreciate having the route planner working off as large a single jump range as practical.

The so-called 'badlands' almost always turn out to be someone not realising that you can avoid them by going up or down 50 LY. Or just look a bit ahead and go round them.

If you are going to the neutron fields, do yourself a favour and take an Asp over an Anaconda. The time saved scanning & aligning with the next system will more than make up for that lost getting to & from the fields. When you don't need to refuel more than once an hour anyway then that aspect is a complete non-issue.

The whole point of the Anaconda for exploring is it's jump range. It sucks at everything other aspect of exploring.

Dude, do it your way and leave the rest to choose their own way. I'm one from Elite rank in Exploring, hell I did 60,000LY in a T9 just because I could.

OK "dude". My apologies for trying to let others learn from my directly relevant experience (in this case taking an Anaconda to the rim). And, just for the record, I've made Elite in exploring more than three times over if that really means anything.
