Why should players who don't want Guild features move out of Open mode because of a feature that has never formed part of the stated game design? (the game design which was published over two and a half years ago)

Indeed, they've adhered strictly to that design. (sarcasm, if not completely obvious)

what's the point of said ppl playing open mode if they have no desire for social interaction?

Or would you force visible guild tags on everyone so that you can gain infamy and such?

Just wondering as I don't care about guilds as long as I can can carry on, completely unaware of your guilds existence and its petty squabbles. :)

Have you ever heard of Code?..... just wondering if there was any infamy there already..................

And this brings up a very beneficial point for all.
Let's say you are flying along in OPEN and you stumble upon a CMDR who's heading your way.
You wonder, 'Is he friendly, or is he Foe?'
Does his Guild Tag says CODE or doe sit say HAPPYCLAN?

People, there are benefits!
Please consider them!

i don't get it, you like the social interaction of the gamer yet you don't want the game to make it easier for ppl to play as a group? I.E. socially interacting

When I want to socially interact in a group of gaming friends, I invite them round to my house, fire up the gaming rigs, feed them pizza and beer, and we place bets who's going to get ill in the DK2 first :)

im outta here, the nay sayers have no argument, if they don't want social interaction they can play solo, but stopping the game from making it easier for groups to play together is just plain selfish

Please would someone take a few minutes to explain what a guild would look like in Elite, and what its advantages and disadvantages would be to me.

My background: I have never been in a guild in any game. I know very little about them. I play Elite in a group of between 4 and a dozen other commanders. We have our own room in our Teamspeak server (the rest of which has mostly an FSX focus) and our own subforum on our website (ditto FSX focus). We have our own Elite group and mostly play in it, though more often than not we're doing our own thing while still in that group as we're there for social reasons more than game coordination.

Thanks in advance.

You didn't answer the question! Would you be happy that I could turn off your tags and have no clue about guilds in the game?

I've read about Code in the forums, I have no clue if I've ever encountered them though, and happy about that... That's all I ask to continue. Oh, and no cries for guild content. We can coexist, unaware of each other's guild status (or not) and consuming the same content, as individuals, or guilds.

I think there is a way the game could accommodate those that want to play open without the guilds and those that want to play open with guilds.

Players currently pledge to Powers, but if factions were opened up so that if you pledge to a power you can also pledge to a faction in your current system that is affiliated to your current power. If you don't want the guild side you pledge to the power but not the faction. When a player moves to a different system the faction he belongs to becomes a faction in that system if its not already present. If the system traveled to borders the powers sphere of influence an undermining/preparation task could be triggered in Powerplay. I would also like to see players/player factions being able to commit themselves to a power activity so people can see what needs doing easier.

When the matchmaking server decides your instance if you are not pledged to a faction it doesn't match you with people pledged to a faction.

If FD were cute they could charge to have your own faction name in game.

If you wish to be able to turn it off then who am I to argue against you being able to do so. I don't need anyone to remember me who doesn't want to.

I guess that was my fear - guild only content which pulls dev time from the game and blocks significant content from those not in guilds. Or, forces people to be in guilds to experience the content.

I dont really understand... Are you trying to say that you have concerns for players that fly in Open mode, that could find themselves face to face with....other players? This would force them to play in Solo mode??? My god, what else prevents you from sleeping at night??

Why would any of the contents "blocked" from any players in ED by guilds?
It's the opposite: guilds could provide these contents to play with.
Of course you have to join a guild for that (or establish one) just like you have to open the tap if you want to get water or you have to put clothes up if you want to get dressed. Or you have to sit in a spaceship if you want to get out to the void in ED. And you have to switch the FSD on if you want to jump. And so on.
Just because you don't choose to be part of a guild you are not blocked from the content.

Or do you think you are blocked from flying a Conda because you chose not to grind credits?
Are you blocked from buying an A7 FSD just because you don't find it where to buy?

Guilds would not block a thing. (With how the instancing system performs even if they would like to block anything, they could not, LOL.)
Let this "guilds are blocking"-madness go.

The point of guilds is to provide some contents which are achievable by well organized cooperative gameplay. There are things you can not achieve alone (like building a A380 for example) - even a wing is not achievable alone. Or is it also blocked from me because this very evening I can't find anyone in my instance?
So please don't be scared, nor assume anything here like it was a necessity because you've seen that in other games. It's up to the coders to develop a system which takes care of itself (in which ED again does not shine, but anyway...)

Ah, I just got this in my mind: you are blocked from ED content right now: if you play on PC then you can not access to the X-Box universe and vice versa. Ooops. How many development hours have been "wasted" on this and we are blocked!
LoL.
