I don't understand why the open / solo issue gets people so emotional.
Two words - emergent gameplay. Some people look for competition with other people for all their lives. This game clearly defines it as not mandatory. Some people wish it did.

And I can't help you if you're going to ignore something said by someone who's been on this forum a lot longer than most and has seen what's been discussed from the first day of the kickstarter.I can't help you if you are going to be wilfully blind.....
Because Frontier are not following Star Citizen's business model. And I wonder why they wont open a shop to sell the SHIPS!.....???.........
.
Because people cry out "Pay to Win....Whaaaaaa".....yet, YOU say the game is not competitive......lollol.
You'll know, if you've been hanging around the forums, that there's a thread dedicated to discussions on the Solo vs Open vs Group debate - further discussions on the game modes should be conducted there lest this thread be merged / closed accordingly.
.... and you forgot a "possibly" after "would" - no-one knows what would definitely satisfy both sides of this debate.

And it's not competitive, regardless of what sarcastic comment you think of next. Maybe CQC will be competitive, but it's designed to be. The main game is designed to not be competitive. Disagree with me? Fine, take it up with Michael Brookes.
We must face it, for real.........this is a REAL DEAL "Catch-22"......for you true SciFi Nerds out there, think of the Kobayashi Maru........there is no "win" on this one. FD have painted themselves in to a corner.......
.
I think ED will go down in the history books as a beautiful technical achievement let down by poor game design decisions.....and the Solo/Open thing will be a lesson to games studios around the world for YEARS to come............utterly boneheaded move..... The Single Player Multiplayer game.......what were they thinking???? I mean, can you imagine??>#
.
"""""NEW FROM EA....Battlefield 5 now with Solo/Open........Tired of getting shot by other people but you really like capping flags? No problem, now, while others are getting shot to hell in open mode, you can go invisible, and capture the flags without worry and no one can stop you..............""""" WHHHAAAT?..........

Thanks for proving my point buddy, much appreciated....glad you agree with me. It IS a competitive game, both you and FD think so....cheers.......

Repped for being a mature sensible replyThe tone of people wanting solo forced into open is not normally very polite. It might be a factor in why solo players prefer it that way.
ED is quite a 'mature' game. A lot of OP's comments are echoed on this board by players who sound like the problem is this game is not for them.

The OP is just another attempt at turning Elite into 'Eve from a cockpit'. I just hope this gets all the attention it deserves..... none. These outburst are just getting old.
Braben has already told the world that player interaction and PvP would be "rare" in the Elite: Dangerous universe, so don't expect anything to be done to differ from that "vision".
No worries though, when No Man's Sky releases I think a large portion of the player base will jump ship to that and then eventually wind up in Star Citizen when it eventually releases.
to be fair if this game was "eve from a cockpit" it would probably be one of the best money making games in history, eve has a lot of content which is also dynamic and emergant because of the human factor, but the point and click nature aren't very exciting
Presumably that would be up to CCP to develop as EVE is their IP....

EvE the online game, I have no problem with. I've not played it myself, but I am sure it is a good game. To survive as long as it has against the likes of World Of Warcraft, it must be doing something right.to be fair if this game was "eve from a cockpit" it would probably be one of the best money making games in history, eve has a lot of content which is also dynamic and emergant because of the human factor, but the point and click nature aren't very exciting
/off topic. It's not competitive in a way that you go hull verus hull. It's more strategic like competition. It's not pure combat PvP like EvE for example.
