My road from "psycho" to "pirate"

Hello. First thing i want to mention, english is not my first language so please be kind about this.
And a warning long wall of text ahead.

I started to play Elite Dangerous from various reasons, but the most important reason is pvp. In my opinion it's funniest way to spend your time in a multiplayer game. As soon as i can get my hands on my first Viper i tried with mixed results (read die alot) to kill other players. Next step was Cobra but i managed to die alot more in Cobra compared with Viper. Back to the Viper and then next step was Imperial Courier. A tough little ship, way better for pvp for a noob like me.

In this time every time i encounter another player i just kill him (if he doesn't kill me ofc), no communication, i really love the pretty explosions. After powerplay start i joined Code as a possible recruit (i am still a recruit) and i pledged for Archon Delaine.

Next step to me was to past in chat "For the Archon!" and then proceed to kill the other player. In this time my only regret was why i cannot fly Cobra properly? In the first Elite (played by me on Speccy) and in second one i fly almost exclusively on Cobra and it was a great ship.

So two days ago i decided to give Cobra a new chance (thx to the user Ziljan on this forums and his advice how to fly this ship). I fitted a piracy Cobra with cargo scanner, cargo rack (in the past cargo rack was a blasphemy for me, better to fit one more scb), and limpets to gather the precious loot.
My first eye opener was the range on this ship, it gives me a great freedom to roam pretty fast alot of systems. Second if the things goes south i can run away pretty fast (essential in piracy).

At first i asked for a measly 4 cargo because i really do this for fun, not for profit. The asking for cargo when you don't know how to do it properly can be pretty hilarious especially if your hands shake from adrenaline.

Then i go on the Code forums and i discovered this piece of software called Autohotkey and my time/typing problem was solved. The sad thing most of the players don't even bother to respond to my hails, forcing me to destroy their ships (yeah i am very "sad" about this). :D

Then one pilot in transport ship drop me my first loot 10 rare artwork (i manage to scopp only 7 because of the police). No problem i am off to sold my first loot i am gonna be a rich pirate RARE ARTWORK ftw. Did i mention my rank in trading is mostly penniless? That's because i have no clue about these things. After i get some advices from teamspeak from fellow pirates, i manage to find a nearby system with a black market on a outpost station. And surprise:
02_rare_artwork.jpg
Waat? We talk about 7 Picasso here man and you give me this price? Fuel, repairs, ammo, bounty on my head and you came with this? Wow clearly if you want to make a small fortune from piracy you have to start with a big fortune.

So i refitted my ship, cargo scanner in the bin, hello heat sink launcher, and bye bye limpet control hello second scb. I decided to be a poker pirate: i ask for cargo and if the player wanna drop some great if not will see about this.

Next target was a big, fat T9.
03_autohotkey.jpg
As you can see my typing is way better thanks to Autohotkey. Also the problem is the player is aligned with Zemina and most probably his cargo is pp related wich makes a valid target for an Archon supporter like me.

Anyway the player was polite and pretty sincere: he doesn't have anything good and i have to believe him because i choose to not fit a cargo scanner.
04_free_to_go.jpg

I decide to let him free because in the end i do this for fun, his cargo was useless for me even if is "expensive" cargo.

Now in the end piracy without cargo scanner is not really piracy (i hope the Code guys will forgive me for this), if you bother to respond to me, you will be on your way without any harm from me. Of course i prefer to shoot things and if you try to run i will gladly destroy your ship (or at least i will try to).

P.S. Cobra MK. III really rocks, now my Courier and Vulture gather dust in my hangar.

Good read, man. I'm thinking about coming back from exploring and going pirate, just because there is nothing else that seems interesting atm. I worry I may be too 'nice' for piracy, though. Maybe a gentleman pirate? I'm an Englishman, after all :)

The gentleman pirate. I like it.

"I say chaps. Your prosecco, your Brie and your castelvetrano olives if you please or I'll be awfully cross with you."

I would immediately drop all goods :) I'm struggling to pirate don't want to replace my load out with cargo scanner and limped I've never tried asking for booty I may do that next time haha

You can be whatever you want, this is the purpose of this game. Too "nice" for piracy? Imagine the feelings of the player who just get released from his mindless grind, even if you release him for a small sum without cutting too much in his profits. Maybe he will try piracy in the end, after all in any multiplayer game, player interaction it's the most important thing.

I insist that all The Code pirates are gentlemen pirates.

Met a code pirate recently. He didn't seem much of a gentleman to me.

Anyways, that is a good way to do it. Fit a cargo scanner though. If you asked me cargo and didn't scan me first, i'd given you fish and tell you it's what i'm carrying. Also, don't be greedy. Never ask for full hold. Never ask for too little either, or you'll never make money. 10% is fair and square. Also, try to remember who you have interdicted if you are a man of routines. Skip for a while if it's the same guy, or he'll fire up a trader calculator and move 200 ly from there. I never do it on the first go, but if it keeps happening, it's less bothersome to change routes somewhere else. If the trader is doing rares, you make a lot more profit in knowing what rares go where. It's pretty funny seeing pirates asking for brandy in lave, when i'm full of other stuff that would render a lot more profit (since it scales with distance).

Be nice. Have a talk beyond piracy if you want. I always chat pirates up. I once met a pretty adrenaline riddled pirate. He took so long to type, that I could have charged my FSD 10 times. I went easy on him and gave him more than he asked. Told him to have his lines in copy-paste so he didn't have to fiddle with the keyboard so much. Fun times. Of course, he berated me for jettisoning and not abandoning haha well he was learning the ropes.

OP, your post touched my soul. :) I do not like those stronger who attack the weak with small ship, with big ship and huge fire power. You have a code, like Robin Hood or something like that.

I do piracy since premium beta, bring all my pirate code from EVE. Can't imagine better game play btw.
I 'griefed' some of you just to get compare my setups, sometimes that was just suicide attack to learn the lesson what is best for my game style...
Still most difficulty for me is keep chatting to interdicted pilot, can any pirate player would recommend reasonable macro?
I use Logitech K130 keyboard without any software for it.

Great posting. I hope one day artwork really will be "Picasso's" !! :D

Can you show me please, autohotkey script for sending messages?
I'd really like to do that.

Can't wait for piracy to get updates, so we aren't forced to be gentleman pirates. I want to steal your cargo, not ask nicely. No words, if possible.

I'm not a pirate, but I would not be surprised if some people find it amusing to send "LULZ" every 30 milliseconds until the TCP/IP binding is reset, their router is commanded to reboot, and every non-server IP parsed from C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-xxxx\Logs\netLog.X.txt added to it's blocking list.

It can all be triggered from one keypress :(

It's entirely possible to do so. However, annoy enough players and they will do the above, a little bit more, and put a nice cherry on top just for you.

I'd really like to do that.
And here is my script; props to the Blaering user from the Code forum:
#NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases.
; #Warn ; Enable warnings to assist with detecting common errors.
SendMode Input ; Recommended for new scripts due to its superior speed and reliability.
SetWorkingDir %A_ScriptDir% ; Ensures a consistent starting directory.
