Cake or death? Sorry, we are all out of cake. So it's death or...death then?
thank you for flying church of england!

I've had many traders who would rather die then give me one ton of cargo. Both players have something the other wants it's very much a negotiation. You might not like what happens if you walk away from the table, but it's still a negotiation.

There's no requirement on the trader to demean themselves in front of the pirate - as you say other options are available....
This whole thread makes it sounds like pirates are the plague of the galaxy, running amok and happily scooping away the profits of honest traders.

Reading the threads about piracy somehow I get the impression that many pirates do what they do exactly because they want the their victim to demean themselves.

In reality, Frontier have ensured that this is not the case by making piracy extremely hard and unprofitable.
I doubt there are more than a handful of active pirates at the moment (although a few may return to it when the 20t limit is adjusted). Most of the active ones are really traders who do a bit of pirating on the side for fun.
In light of this the whole debate about abandoned cargo seems fairly unimportant.
I love the jetison abandon option espacialy when dropping lots of mines between the cargo cannistors .
cargo scooping should only be posible whenn shields ar down.

And the difference is?Ahah funny: you are saying that pirates have something traders want? No they don't. It is something imposed upon them that they want to get ride off.
How about stolen goods paying almost the same on the black market than on the open market (i.e. the fencing overhead being minimal), so that there is little monetary incentive to demand the cargo to be abandoned. Then selling stolen goods on the black market should increase one's reputation with any local criminal faction, so there is even an incentive to sell there and not the open market. The only downside then is to have to move the stolen goods past authority ships, but any pirate worthy of the title should be able to do that anyway.
The entire pirate profession is a mess due to lack of good pirate equipent and not beign able to stop many ships from simply boosting away.
And your definition of piracy is?
"Hello there young man. Any chance you see an old trader out and drop a few tons. I won't spend the profits on Wine or Liquor". It's piracy! Bullying, demeaning, demanding and aggressive. Nature of the beast.
It was a requested feature to allow friends to share cargo. But I can see how it can be abused by pirates. Not sure what the solution is - maybe it should only work for people on your friends list or in a wing, but even that could be abused too.
