Anaconda Shield Recharge Time Test: 11+ minutes

Wow I thought the recharge on my python was bad. From what I have read all shields recharge at a fixed rate of 1 unit of whatever (hitpoint maybe?) per second. Correct me if I'm wrong here or if it changed. On large ships with boosted shields....OUCH. Would be cool to have a utility mount that increased recharge rate by 20% (for a class A) rather that total HP. Or even just adjust the recharge rate based on pips in systems.....or maybe I just need more patience lol :p

I have the max power distributor on my anaconda and can have 1 pip to sys and it will never drain the capacitor while charging shields. IMO shields should charge instantly while docked. If not that, then shields should be fully charged when you log back into elite. Remembering the shield state yet letting hours in game pass is a poorly implemented game mechanic.
 
Solely based on the original point, stations should replenish shields quickly. They repair the hull in a matter of seconds, they can't recharge the shield while they're at it?

I don't agree with the replenishment just by re-logging. There should be a function to activate (and pay for) in the station thou. "Recharge shields 4132 CR", just like fuel.

Also, on the topic of the OP. Turn off boosters to get the shield online quickly. Turn them on again when charging. I have 7 boosters on my Anaconda with A7 shield. Sure when I loose shields it will take time to get it into fighting form again, but that only happens when I try to take on a SSS myself sometimes (when there is 8+ Vultures or 3 Anacondas to fight). Otherwise the shields are indestructible with 4 pips to sys when getting hammered.

It makes even less sense that the shields don't charge when you are offline - all other timers; missions, bounties etc. keep going and enforce "real-time", why can't shields do the same? - it would just be like putting your car/phone/any device on charge overnight.

Ship system timers - all of them - freeze when you go offline. If your canopy is breached, your life support does not continue to get used up after you log off. Nor does your fuel continue to get used when you're idling in regular space. So Shields shouldn't recharge while offline, either. Unless you want to run out of fuel when you go on vacation for a week?

I am, however, in favor of the ability to purchase a "Shield Repair" while docked. Say 10 credits per Mj? So an 7A Annie w/ 8 boosters would have to pay ~15,000 Cr to fully charge.

It's less about online game opinion and more a desire to maintain logical consistency in all of my hobbies. Elite is far from the only game where I want logical consistency.

To maintain logical consistency, if shields recharge offline, then fuel should get used offline, and life support (if your canopy is breached) should fade while offline. But I know there would be so much wailing and gnashing of teeth over those last two that I'm OK with not having the first one.
 
Some people mentioned stations having shield recharge option for a fee. They do, its called "shield cell bank". Not the best solution but it works.

I tried this but it didn't work. While docked at the station, my attempt to recharge using the SCB did nothing to my shields. I had to leave the station, recharge, then dock and reload the SCB. Have you found a way to recharge from the SCB while docked?
 
Its a shame that recharge rate isnt listed any-where.
Yep I hate the UI as it is. I dunno whose idea was it to hide the numbers/meta from us but I would fire the guy. I dont freaking care if a weapon has e.g. 4 dmg "bar" from a 1-10 "bar scale". Tell me how much is that exactly (like Mj inflicted) and tell me my current shield strength as well so I would have a slight idea what is going on with the game. UI needs a complete rework.

and you all forgot about another issue.
shield charges while you are docked sure but try to swap to another ship and swap back. anyone wants to guess if the shields continued to recharge during that time?
 
Should they recharge when docked? Yes IMO. Does it break the game for me? No. I honestly like the long recharge. This coming from a pilot that has a Conda with 1200MJS and a Python that has 600+.

Complete rework, not really, it's not THAT bad, but I agree that certain parts of it are totally crap.

As mentioned way too little info on ships and equip: nice that you tell us all the equip we get in the ship when we buy it, and thanks for leaving out the class info, it's totally irrelevant anyways, only noobs care whenever you can hold C4 or C6 shields.
And the bars for weapon stats are also blegh, give us numbers so we can draw relations, with bars we can just guess.

Or how the Kill Warrant Scanner doesn't update the WANTED info to the amount that the target's worth, WHY is that NOT a thing? Seriously. Especially in anarchy systems where EVERYONE is Lawless.
It'd even be possible to override the CLEAN without compromising it, simply make the bounty red if wanted in the current system and normal if the bounty only applies to other areas but not the current one.

The BB also doesn't show a factions allegiance icon, if they are, like the right panel's faction lists do, why?

Maybe we're lucky and get these or some atleast but given that it took from beta to 1.2 (or even 1.3) just so scoops get their rate listed I'd not hold my breath for now. Feel free to surprise me though FD :p



Regarding docked recharge, I'd vote with YES for improved recharge rate while docked, like 5x atleast. And also YES for regeneration boosters. Shield health boosters are nice but I already got a 2min deadzone on my Vulture and my Asp has even more.
