My 14,000 System Journey

This is how it currently stands based on what I know for sure:

nb: Kamzel is Erimus's CMDR name
nb2: the greyed out planet & moon is a bug I get with this system, it was fine when I first visited it

I believe Krunchie scanned some of the moons but I'm not sure which ones. He's not expecting to get home for some time yet.

OK, I scanned both moons of the 1st giant and all 6 moons of the 4th giant.

Wow, now I feel like a coward for being afraid for my data cache on a return from a trip only just over a 10th of what you did! :(

Definitley going to take my long range cobra (which i have just bought) on a very long range trip. Are AFMUs an absolute necessity? I like your loadout, mine is very similar (Except I am paranoid and want a docking computer to mitigate any 'crash on return' risks)

Not really, but if you're going much beyond 10k LY it might be a good idea. But in a cobra I might not go for it, as the weight is definately going to affect the jump range.

Happy travels, hope you find something cool :)

AFMU's don't actually weigh anything, no jump range penalty.

You are right, of course - my bad  Wouldn't call it necessary, though. Currently on the return leg of a ~10k exploration trip, no AFMU and still at 99% hull, with max damage to specific systems of 3% (because I just had to learn about neutron stars up close ;)). If you want close-ups of a black hole, then I'd probably bring one though :p

It was supposed to be a quickish jaunt out to Sagittarius A* and back. Turned out a little different!

Departing from the Tolini system in my Cobra Mk III Roncevaux on February 13th, I reached Sagittarius A* on the 18th. I had intended to then make a leisurely return taking in some nebulae, but I just couldn't help taking a peek at what lay on the other side of the core... Ten days later I found myself making the crossing to the outer galactic arm where I spent a couple of weeks exploring, eventually reaching 65,099 LY from Sol. Returning from the outer arm I then mapped the next one to see how far 'north' it's possible to get in a medium range ship without making the long detour to the outer arm. It took a few days, but I reached 60,002 LY north on March 17th and then set my sights for home.

On March 25th I reached the northern neutron star fields and explored them for the next ten days until one too many too-close encounters with a black hole resulted in a cracked canopy. That was the signal to go home and I reached colonised space on April 15th. Five (!) days later I had finally sold all the data.

Great job Allitnil! Looks like you visited some gorgeous places!

OK Maybe AFMU is prob good idea then. What kind of rating is best?

As big as you can fit, and take as many of them as you can carry. :)
