Weeks of hard grinding, all gone in an instant (please help)

You haven't lost everything. Your pilot, you are still alive with your pilot's rankings for combat, exploration and trade all still intact.

You lost your ship and a buttload of money, but you can get it all that back. It'll be even quicker this time around since you have experience. You might even enjoy the challenge, take a path you hadn't tried before. (Some of the most fun I had was kitting out an Eagle with no shields, an 8t cargo bay and smuggling all over everywhere. Good money, good fun!)

Some of the most successful people in the world have made and lost several fortunes, just to make them back again. The real question comes down to where your enjoyment came from... Seeing the money counter go up? Ship progression? Or if you enjoyed being a starship pilot. Is it the destination or journey? If it's the last one, you're in good shape. :)

OP if you examine the right side panels you can see how much a rebuy will cost you as your ship is currently loaded, you can alternately use EDshipyard to see how much insurance will cost upon death, the shipyard also lets you see how much a ship with all the different loadouts will cost you etc.

Like other have said you shouldn't fly ship unless you got that covered but since no on mentioned this thought it may be helpful, since you have only been here 1 month.

LOL all good, im just pointing out that self responsibility and accountability is still a thing. And patience is still a virtue, wait until your ship is safely docked then go afk. If you fly without insurance accept the responsibility of the consequences of the choice you made..I'm not trying to be mean, but sometimes tough love is the best love..

Gotcha. :)

My patience is worth exactly 7,087,747CR (thanks to some nice discounts). Docking computer for me, every single time! If, one day, it smacks me into the side of the space station while I'm making a cup of tea or reading the forums, then it'll have been more than worth 7,087,747CR for all the free time it gave me.

I made a little over 15M in the past couple of hours while reading the forums and MacRumors. I'm pretty sure at least 2/3 of that time was docking...

It's getting kinda fun to just count the variants of "don't fly without rebuy money" posts in threads like these. People sure like to hand down sage advice.. :) In this case, however, I think the OP should really file a support ticket. This wasn't just your typical "flew without insurance money, got interdicted by a player python, and I'm crying now". This was the player not being aware that the docking computer is bugged. And I can't really fault him for that, or any new player that thought this thing would work when it doesn't. It's FD's fault it doesn't work to begin with, and it's FD's fault that it's not been taken off the market until it can be made reliable.

It's not a problem as long as you know that the unit is faulty. If you don't, then.. well, by the time you can afford a clipper you've docked many times so I can't fault the OP for trying a quality of life upgrade so he can engage the docking sequence and go do something else. Though personally I'd probably opt to put something genuinely useful for survival in a slot, and not waste it on this, he should still be refunded in this case.

And hopefully it never happens, but if it does, I would hunt Sarah down in whatever system she is building the minion army in...

The advice about insurance is like this. You tell your kids 10 times not to touch the stove as they will burn their fingers, but inevitably they always end up touching the stove, why? because they don't listen. It's the same gig here, and leaving your ship while it is still moving to go afk voids the common sense warranty.

Tell you what, in the interests of full disclosure, I did have my first docking computer malfunction yesterday! I was in a throwaway Cobra, and I watched it go into "AUTO DOCK IN PROGRESS" mode, look good for a while, then suddenly freak out and bounce me off the outside of a Coriolis at high speed. Somehow my my shields just made it - I grabbed the stick and hit the speed and regained control, but that would have given me at least a minor pucker had it been the 'Conda...

Just submit a support ticket and they will replace the ship.

This is not your fault its a glitch in the game.

You will get your ship and or credits back to buy ship again.

In ticket also say you want credits back for any cargo you had. The devs can see when they look back in the system to what happened.

" I was docking to station once, on my own no docking computer. And boom going through mailslot boom. Ship starts spinning around like crazy and blowed up." I got everything back after submitting support ticket"

Yikes but lol on the pucker part, see good thing you were not afk! even though it was a throwaway, isn't that what Sidey's are for?

Telling people how to play is the best, isn't it? Your trail is so much better than their trail.
In this case, I think is. In the real world, you're held responsible for stuff in your care. "It wasn't supposed to go wrong." isn't an excuse - because it did. Murphy's Law assume what can go wrong, will.
Sue the manufacturer of your docking computer,
for not telling you in big exclamation marks,
that it is not suited for safe, unattended docking on the clipper.
This would be an immersive, lore friendly way of getting a refund. :)

I've read alot of these stories, but this one might take the cake. No shields, docking computer, no insurance and not even at the computer :D

But i think the docking computer issue gives you a chance if you raise a ticket. Good luck Cmdr I hope they restore your Clipper.

You had a month of progress riding on a shieldless, uninsured ship, auto-docking while you were afk.

Is there ANYTHING more you could have done to make disaster more likely?

sorry there is no help, just always follow the golden rule, never fly without credits to cover insurance, it shows the rebuy cost in your status screen. And check it after buying cargo.

People are told this over and over and sadly some never listen.

I did that once, walked away and the station was attacking me (Too bad I wasnt streaming at the time or I would know why!) After that I sold the docking computer but when I got into a Type-7 I bought another one, now I only engage it once I am safely inside the station.
