Hey guys first post here. I've been following the the thread for a while now. It's really great to see all the investigations / tests / etc going on :)

Just had a quick observation: ratking15's tests above are the first time I've heard the UA purrs occur in short groups of 3 or so for so many blocks in a row. In the recordings/videos I've listened to so far they're usually in groups of 5 or 6 (if you only include the clear purrs before the howl).

During part 1 above, when you can hear the UA clearly it's generating purrs in groups of 5 (counting clear purrs only), and then at around 7:30 into the first video they slow down to 3 and 2 purrs. This also continues from the start of the second separate UA drop (at 9:10) in part 2 (best heard in the blocks at 10:48 onward). I thought it was interesting that it continued with the short groups rather than groups of 5 or 6.

I wonder if this might mean that it picks up at the point it left off for each drop and continues purring out whatever trying to say (if anything at all).

So can someone confirm this?

It says about an Alien race that was made extinct but it is extremely hard to know if that is 100% true since they could have shot something into space as an life pod or .......what's the word......something which is to keep their race or species alive.

First thing that came to my mind would be an ark but i'm not sure. Also, i finally finished reading everything from the old thread and got caught up to here and jeez that was a lot of information lol

It strikes me that it would be useful to have more UAs to experiment with....

Has anyone published a "How to find a UA" guide? I get that they are insanely rare but is anything known? Are they in cargo holds (of what), USS/WSS/SSS.... fed/imp/all/neutral.... any hints at all?

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Unknown_Artefact - "Finding Them" section. Essentially, we know of at least two systems (Timocani & 109 Virginis) that have a Strong Signal Source. Within the right SSS, there'll be a Federal Navy convoy. There will be a Type-9 & they'll quickly start talking about how strange the cargo is or whatever. If you cargo-scan the T-9, you should see an Unknown Artefact. Then the trick is getting it out of the hatch without dying or killing the T-9.

Do you have access to Achenar? If not, I have the Imperial rank to check it at Capitol.

The mention of the sentient race isn't particularly new information (http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Empire, not sure the original source but I remember reading that elsewhere many months ago). But AFAIK, we've never tested anything there.

I'm also tempted to take it to Alioth, since that was a center of human-Thargoid relations in F:FE (from what I've read).

I have noticed that at least, in all of CMDR Branch's videos, there were 5 purs in between each honk, spaced pretty evenly as far as time between pur.

This also corresponds with morse syntax for numbers, but I could identify anything that might make a given pur a 'long' or a 'short'

Maybe some commander with a good ear and some audio software might want to take a crack at that? A numerical sequence could be significant...

I'll save you the effort. I went to Achenar/Capitol. Nothing happened or became available. I'll have video shortly, but I took it both in deep space closest to the star as well as all the way down to the auto-drop impact zone of Capitol & recorded another round. I also hit up Dawes Hub (the station around Capitol). Nothing new or interesting there.

Thanks, Yaffle. That's heartening to hear.

I wonder what "close" means...

Has someone got an idea that might work and we just haven't "triggered" it yet?
Is there something "extra" to the morse chitter; that we take it to the right place and the chitter *doesn't* match the location?

I really like the thing with the purrs. I don't think the purrs themselves mean anything, but I have observed the discrepency in quantities before. I dismissed it as out of my league, and probably not relevant, but I certainly wouldn't discount it.

My usual plug: has anyone managed to find Trinkets of Hidden Fortune yet? Unfortunately, I'm overseas for a month tomorrow, and won't be able to Elite it up (my laptop is pretty insufficient :/ ). I still have an unrelated train of thought that these are related. I think they could be relevant, but overlooked.

One idea for example, we brought a whole bunch of SAP 8-cores together with the UA, but I wonder if it's a SAP-8 Core + UA + a bunch of trinkets? When these extra items were introduced, almost everything (Painite, Osmium, Hafnium, SAP 8-Cores and UA's themselves) were high-value items, in some cases requiring Elite or Founder rank to get missions delivering them. Trinkets are low value, and yet are just as rare as SAP 8-cores; this is an exception to the rule, and piques my interest.

I have plenty more ideas about them, just as unverifiable, but it'll have to wait til I get my hands on some, and when I get back.

EDIT: On an aside, as a complete shoot-the-moon, I can't help but think UAs, SAP-8s, Trinkets and these "door that is also a key" missions are all somehow related. They all need Elite or Founder explorer rank, which is probably the most uncommon Elite rank for people to have (most of whom grind trading/combat). This means access to wherever/whatever these things might lead to is easier if you have access to these missions (and steal the goods, abandoning the missions), but still doable.

Regarding the missing Voyagers; Has anybody submitted a bug report or queried Zac/Brett/dev. about them? Just in case their disappearance was unintentional.

I did run across a mission for this tonight in Sol, Abraham Lincoln station. It was a "Founder or Elite" mission (I am not either), but was requesting I cart one ton to Alpha Centauri (not Hutton Orbital). I grabbed a screenshot, but the forum's image uploader is broken for me right now.

What's the morse say when they are together in that video?

I'm using one of the youtube vids ('aftermath with more tests'), I need it a bit clearer, and perhaps with less talking over it, but I strongly believe both UAs are simply broadcasting 'Kalana 2'. Need to get in front of a computer (am on my phone) with a clear version to be sure though. I'm going by the length and the fact that some of the chittering is clearly repeated throughout - I.e. the 'a', but more importantly that the last sequence before the purrs definitely sounds like a '2' (..---).

That is indeed great to know, thanks!

I've spent probably too long staring at this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Eo9PrSfwEQ&feature=youtu.be

But, I think that the "purrs" are, themselves, morse, just played super slowly, and with the honks in between.

Could I get someone else to try operating under that assumption and share your findings? I am getting what seems like something, but it's 1 AM here and I'm afraid it's just confirmation bias, so, I'd love the opinion of someone who isn't crazy.

This is where my hunch lies at the moment - but I admit that the hypothesis requires a crazy search for a needle in a giant haystack... We'd need something to direct us to the right place, or just the application of logic based on knowledge or hunches. But the UA custodians have been great at going to most of the likely locations, so I'm empty on this one, sorry!

...Or that two in the same place can provide more information (so, re my last post about the Morse in 'Kalana 2', I don't think all that can be done with those vids has been done yet).

Seems to me that FD has very carefully tuned to keep the spawn rate of these things low enough to ensure we never have more than 2 or 3 at once. I know there have been more out there, but I believe these were cloned due to the bug?

If so, then it implies we don't need more than 2 or 3 in order to solve the mystery. Which would be, in fact, good news for us - with all the great brains here trying to crack it, we will get there eventually!

It would be help to read the thread and think a little bit before post even when proof is given.

"SAP 8" + "Trinkets" + "Undiscribed cargo/Crystal" (Obfuscating the outher RIM/Answering the call for Adventure) are all introduced later with 1.3.
"Trinkets of hidden Fortune" should be the place for havy testing IMHO, because not much to read so far ... (Lady Fortuna!)
Shoot a few and contribute something to the thread/Wiki ;-):D:D

As a current UA holder you are eligable to simple request Trinkets here in the thread/game chat/PM if wished.
For the case you are unable to shoot some out of a unshielded Hauler :D... But as you managed to get the UA ...

We salute you!

Doesn't it bother anybody that Voyager is gone?
Inquisitive people tried shooting it before (blasphemy, but it had to be tried). It was indestructable.
And now it isn't there anymore. A pretty agressive act.

Had a thought regarding the two systems UAs have been... uh... liberated from. Federal Navy must have had, however unknown to us at this time, some reason for being there and it may not have been to simply 'pass through' or to be hijacked.
Checked the Wiki. Skimmed this thread through again. Haven't checked all the footage. Anybody who knows, please tip us the nod...

Have the Unknown Artefacts been tested (or footage reviewed) for morse/behaviour/hurrah/sigh in the systems in which they were originally found?

Oh cool! Honestly, I totally missed that, probably coz I was embarking on defence of the morse theory at the time, sorry I missed it!

That screenshot tells me where I've been going wrong too! I can see multiple ship signatures in your scanner which confirms for me I need to look in USS rather than WSS. Doh!

And yeah, you're totally right. I think Trinkets have been overlooked so far :)
