Tonight's efforts were a mishmash of human space locations, including the seats of power for all three major factions (Sol/Achenar/Alioth):

Tomorrow night, I'm going to start retracing Halsey's trip. I'm going to follow the systems in-order from the (second) GalNet post & hope for the best.

Oh cool! Honestly, I totally missed that, probably coz I was embarking on defence of the morse theory at the time, sorry I missed it!

That screenshot tells me where I've been going wrong too! I can see multiple ship signatures in your scanner which confirms for me I need to look in USS rather than WSS. Doh!

And yeah, you're totally right. I think Trinkets have been overlooked so far :)

Again little bit to fast CMDR!
It was a simple scan near a Outpost in Reshas ("Chapter of ISINOR" is controlling faction there).
But I see the trinkets also in Adder/Hauler in USS and in other systems.
So should be not wrong to check USS if Trinkets are searched ....

As written before: Scanning at Outposts with Blackmarket brings surprising results sometimes ...
And NPC's changed cargo there. Scan before landing and if they again start! Try it out.

Also I would like to remeber for a last time at according to:
Had a thought regarding the two systems UAs have been... uh... liberated from. Federal Navy must have had, however unknown to us at this time, some reason for being there and it may not have been to simply 'pass through' or to be hijacked.
Checked the Wiki. Skimmed this thread through again. Haven't checked all the footage. Anybody who knows, please tip us the nod...

So the "NAVAL" only theory is also simple a legend. Independent System. Seen Faction is in fact Independent.
The very first convoi "chatter" with picture as proof only a few days after 1.2 start is to found at Reddit: ImperialSpace! Think it was "NU" or one jump further ...

We salute you!

Thankyou, Nilreb.
Still, regardless of the factional allegiance of the Type-9 convoys, do you know if tests were performed on the UAs in the systems they were taken from?

Of course! MURP/RedWizzard/Wishblend/Ratking have all done very well ...

But more important:
After rechecking Reshas: Independent! Independent System Independent Faction!!!

Have edited former post.
( No clue but current I can't insert images. Please verify for your own in system map System "Reshas")

Excellent work, thanks - have only listened to the 'Earth' one. The Morse is unfailingly 'Earth' for sure.

I want to concentrate on the high-pitched purring that starts after the Morse finishes. Earth is good, because it's short, so we get more repetitions of the rest of it before it has to be recaptured.

I don't know if the purrs have anything in them, but it's audio, and it's all we've got - besides the excellent visuals of course! ;)

@Nilreb

Just got some trinkets from a USS, thanks! It was touch and go,,, sprung 10 of them out but only picked up 4 before the cops showed up and blew me down to 59% hull, taking out my thrusters in the process. Got away though!

Now to not get any sleep between now and my 14 hour flight madly trying some of my ideas...

Great to hear! Enjoy the ride.
And let us know if "Lady Fortuna" (watch market description) has something offered to you while you have them in cargo!

We salute you!

Someone before mentioned about the rarity and how we've not been "allowed" more than 2 or 3.
We've been doing all our talking and researching on individual UAs.

What if these are actually paired together, like quantum entangled?
What if these are to facilitate jumps between the 2 systems they're in and act as "anchors" or "beacons" of each end of some sort of "tunnel"?
I'm not letting go if the idea that a UA, Hf178 and SAP8 Core Container and possibly Painite will make something happen in the right place or circumstances. Not until we've tried UA/Hf178/SAP8/Painite in 2 nearby systems simultaneously.

What do you all think? Is it worth trying experiments on both UA simultaneously?

I'll save you the effort. I went to Achenar/Capitol. Nothing happened or became available. I'll have video shortly, but I took it both in deep space closest to the star as well as all the way down to the auto-drop impact zone of Capitol & recorded another round. I also hit up Dawes Hub (the station around Capitol). Nothing new or interesting there.

Thanks, Yaffle. That's heartening to hear.
OKay....sad to hear no resualt from it though it is good to hear that we're close.....but we don't know how and what's put us close......the morse code thing? It being part of a ship? :/

Have the Unknown Artefacts been tested (or footage reviewed) for morse/behaviour/hurrah/sigh in the systems in which they were originally found?
Yep Wishblend streamed in the same system we got UA's from, a few minutes after getting them.

Well uh.....I think we've tried that though that was just listening to them.....not putting stuff near them both at the same time.....though thinking about it morse code......it has to be to do with the morse code.......that's the secret as they are saying morse code for the things they are near to right?.......I think I know a test that might prove it.......though I hope I can keep the UA alive long enough.....

I have noticed that at least, in all of CMDR Branch's videos, there were 5 purs in between each honk, spaced pretty evenly as far as time between pur.

This also corresponds with morse syntax for numbers, but I could identify anything that might make a given pur a 'long' or a 'short'

Maybe some commander with a good ear and some audio software might want to take a crack at that? A numerical sequence could be significant...

It's been done many times, please give it a go though, it doesn't mean there isn't anything there to discover.

The main issue with the purrs is they never seen to repeat and multiple repeat deployments of the same UA seem to produce different purr patterns.

The UA thing isn't a wild goose chase, we are apparently 'close' and there is more awaiting us as and when we work it out.

Well this is good! =D

It implies our efforts are not in vain, to be honest I've been starting to find the endless SSs grind combined with the lack of anything remotely solid kinda demoralizing.

Keep on!

But, I think that the "purrs" are, themselves, morse, just played super slowly, and with the honks in between.

Could I get someone else to try operating under that assumption and share your findings? I am getting what seems like something, but it's 1 AM here and I'm afraid it's just confirmation bias, so, I'd love the opinion of someone who isn't crazy.

I doubt it. While you could assign long and short to high and low tones, there isn't any "break" in between to delimit characters. That doesn't make it impossible, just really, really hard to parse.

Yep it's something I've been trying to note down recently. If you speed the sound up 2x or so you can hear distinct tones, but after a while you get used to picking them out at 1x speed. One is slightly shorter than the other, and very slightly higher pitched.

For CMDR Branch's Sirius recording (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9SKX5vz7Qo) I get (counting only clear purrs before the howl):

?|-'--'|'--''|-''--|'--'-'|'-''-|'-'-'|'-''-|-'--'|--''-?<scooped>

The bars represent the howls, and the question mark bit represents blocks I couldn't hear between the start of the UA drop and the point at which the audio was clear enough to hear. But there are probably no more than 1 or 2 blocks missing. Mostly groups of 5 with on group of 6 in there.

It might be interesting to have someone drop the UA and the other listen using the camera drone to ensure the no data is missed when it first appears. Then run several scoop/drops to get end-to-end sequences.

This also corresponds with morse syntax for numbers, but I could identify anything that might make a given pur a 'long' or a 'short'

Good thinking on the MC numbers as they are 5 tokens long, but unfortunately they don't seem to line up with what I've found so far.

1 '----
2 ''---
3 '''--
4 ''''-
5 '''''
6 -''''
7 --'''
8 ---''
9 ----'
0 -----

There's another thread around on investigating the sounds here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=142912

Given the recent blocks of 3/2 purrs in Ratking15's tests I think some of the summary on the first post might need updating, but it's a good start on what people have looked at so far. I'm going to dig through that today to make sure I'm not just running over ground already covered by someone else.

That said, I think during this thread activity there was a post from a member of FD suggesting we might be over thinking the problem, so might not be anything in the purrs after all. Still it's kinda fun to investigate it given it seems to have structure to it :)

As for possible encodings, recently it was pointed out to me (by a CMDR Snyper) that since they're in groups of 5 tokens they might be a form of Baudot Code, which was quite interesting as it's in line with old telecoms encodings, but unfortunately I've not found enough data to support it yet (didn't seem to decode to anything meaningful). Also that doesn't fit with the groups of 3/2 purrs found in ratking15's recordings.

One interesting property of the (pre-howl) purrs so far is that the ' and - never seem to be longer than runs of 2 in any given block. So if you have two -- then the next token always seems to be ' (so far), and for '' then next always seems to be - (so far). At least as far as the recordings I've heard anyway, so might be nothing.

Sorry. Yeah, me again. Fresh from the Wiki with another wild-eyed idea to cross off the 'Possible (But Hardly Likely)' list of investigation strands.

Has anybody been successfully interdicted by a UA-holding commander? Vice versa? Both?

While some resulting oddity would hardly be obviously congruent with the morse or listen-to-it element of an Unknown Artefact, it may inform (or otherwise affect) the "StarShip One Got Nicked" and "Maybe It Opens A Door" theory strands since it involves the warping of space and interdiction/FSD physics. Might also play into the new "Quantum Entanglement" idea.

I do almost feel the SAP8s are a mystery unto themselves.

Not sure on the capitalization because ED seems to capitalize everything but...

"SAP 8 CORE CONTAINER"

What is a SAP 8 CORE, is SAP a mnemonic? Why 8?

High demand? Why are they so valuable, despite them apparently only being "scannable" and explode when tampered with.

Why does it appear in the marketplace without me having any to sell (is this just because high demand?). Could it's appearance (or not) in a marketplace mean anything? Do only certain types of economy want it?

SAP8.png

For other types of commodity there's often an "imported from" field, has anyone ever seen this populated for SAP8s?

Similarly perhaps Unknown Artefacts?

UA inside a station? Potentially high risk though I think.

I just tried it with Hydrogen cannisters, jettisoned from the "top" of the station, and recovered them both, I think they bounced off the walls a few times though.

Can someone please look for what the morse code is saying in this twitch stream? I freashly recorded it now: http://www.twitch.tv/ratking15/c/6951043

That has been done I think.

I mentioned in the other thread (possibly) that when I went to Achenar having got the permit a few weeks ago, carrying nothing of note, I did land in Dawes Hub orbiting Capitol, the water world. While waiting on the launch pad taking selfies of my Python armed freighter Astrid, I heard unsettling noises in the station background which sounded similar to the noises heard when close to a black hole, or even when near artefacts as posted on videos before. I don't know the significance of this, but next time anyone goes to Dawes Hub in Achenar, have a wait on the docking oad and listen.

I regularly hear the 'purr' sound when docked in stations, spent a lot of time in gilya - bell orbital lately

Yeah........I spent about half an hour streaming with the question what is that sound and just simply went into debug cam and found the source to be in the back right corner.....
