maybe its allready enough to just stay in the "witchspace" for long enough, thats why the Diamondback was mentioned (longer jump = longer time...basically)

I really like the simplicity of this.

Those with U.A's what are you piloting? The Diamond back has expanded UI elements right? Im assuming youve jumped with the diamond space into unpopulated space with a UA and sap 8 on board?

Yes the witchspace theory is very simple and nice too, and I love it.
BTW do not forget that the witchspace animation is just a "loading" screen, while ED loads the new instance. But, ok, it could be just an "if" statement to trigger "something" if the player is carrying the UA or the sap 8 or whatever. But animation lenght does not depend on how much far you are jumping ;)

I'm still pointing that it could be possible that this "triggering something" could be activated just in some particular Region of Space.
And those Systems under permit I was talking about some posts ago, could be a possible try. But first we have to check if some permit System is "opened" by the UA or better, by the SAP 8.
I hope CMDR Bitstorm will do these tests later ;)

exactly. a simple trigger that asks
Has Player a Sap 8
Has Player an Unknow Artifact
Is Jumprange >= 30LY

If yes then: Load Thargoid Contact
If not then: Load normal Jump

if thats not going to work, then it might be an specific thargoid-related system.
But if they really live inside the Witchspace, and we find the keys in our systems, then it should be possible from any location

That is a good point

Yes it is.

Someone asked earlier if their FSD had ever failed. I wasn't in hyper-space only SC but mine failed* when I was avoiding an Interdiction. Plopped me out into normal space; don't know if this helps.

The module itself was on about 92% health at the time.

*Can't remember the exact message that popped up though.

Yeah this really is a good point. Potentially very risky though - could well be sacrificing a UA to the malevolent FD in the sky

My gut feeling is, however, that you can't get a module failure while in FSD mode - I'm pretty sure the entire ship damage model is frozen (for example, having overheated as I've gone into FSD and had no actual module damage during the flight - although might have got lucky).

Also - I'm not sure either of our UA carriers are going to be too keen on allowing their FSDs to rot as they hyperspace jump all over the place carrying a UA in an expensive ship! Can't blame them either :)

I mentioned earlier whether it was possible to drop out of FSD between systems - my thinking being so the game saw you as being, effectively, nowhere - and then to see what the UA would broadcast as Morse. It doesn't work doing a long supercruise schlep out of a system, because the game always sees you as being in the system you start from, even if you flew for 10 weeks @1000c, so my guess is it'll always report the name of the system. If you could get between systems, though, then what would it say? (Probably nothing, and any way - you can't!).

One really does wonder what it says if you could get 1.833/1.838mls out of Sol in the direction Voyager 2 was headed, though (carves another UA out of mashed potato)...

since the jump is basically just a loading screen, the most logical solution would be that the game calculates it before you jump based on certain factors

It's the implication of the mission text of "Answering the Call of Adventure" (provided by CMDR Zenith!)

Combined with the mission text of "The Silent Song of the Spheres"

It's an interpretation though, not actual fact. (Though it looks right ;-) )

How to degrade FSD for Dummies part 17

I'm not in a position to try at the moment but the quickest way to attempt a misjump is probably to load toxic waste into a sidey, possibly with some field maintenance units to repair modules other than the FSD and keep jumping (and refueling)

As it get nuts more and more. You're welcome:

no toxic waste needed -> simple go in SC and turn FSD off -> repeat until wished % is reached :D:D:D

All for sience ...

we salute you!

I really think it is worth trying the jumping with the UA and not repairing the FSD. I had +rep from 3 different influential moderators for my original comment.

Thats what i meant few posts before:
"Obfuscating the outer rim/Answer the call of Adventure" run with no cargo, but "crystals" in debriefing. (But this is known since Beta 1.3)
You get no cargo if you take the mission nor it says something about samples or so. But in debriefing: "those crystals"

Meanwhile mostly all possible orders of these misssions finished. Like UA hunt: fruiteless so far-
Also the 7 days timer (after SAP 8 mission) is a fake ...

We salute you!

Why are you assuming the UAs that Ratking and mrtree have are the last two? There is no evidence that posters here are the only players with UAs. IMO it is very likely that other players who haven't seen this thread (and probably don't even know this forum exists) have UAs. If there is even one more UA out there then letting the two we have destroy themselves would be a huge mistake: we wouldn't have even tested your theory and we'd have no UAs left.

From a meta point of view it makes no sense that FD would set up a trigger that would require all players to coordinate their actions; the chances of that happening are very low. What would happen if someone had a UA on their ship and stopped playing? Mystery progress blocked indefinitely? It's also illogical from a game point of view. We can let our UAs go, but about those that have been sold? What justification is there for assuming that those UAs have been destroyed?

I agree.

And would like to ad: DO NOT DESTROY OR SELL UAs. Please?

The one thing we have in this mystery is the Morse. It was discovered by close observation of the UA it selfe. The Morse is not easy to hear but it's simple and can be decoded in-game without tools.
The Morse tells us that the UA scans (it does not steal the Morse or the location) to check it's position. It knows where it is.
Why it checks it's position, we don't know.

There are several other features of the UA that we have not understood the meaning of.

I currently have some hope on the "Maya numbers". Mainly because the follow the patern of the Morse. It takes close observation and skill. No tools required.

There are also:
- Bull/Ant markings
- Green/Purple blinks
- Blue sparks
- Honk
- Purrs

Pick your favorite and go a bit deeper.
We will not get anywhere by speculating wildely on stuf that probably isn't even related to the UA.

My personal opinion:
Take the UA to the right place and it will do something.
All on it's own.

Oh yeah, definitely sounds like it's something that's worth a crack - but which one of our intrepid UA carriers wants to volunteer (possibly) to die? They also might need someone to hold their UA while they prepare a freshly unwrapped Sidey to swap into...

Although re-reading your post, I notice that you provide a way simply to test the degradation theory... Which doesn't require a UA...

Aye it's a bit of a hole. Oddly with exactly the stuff we want to know!

With that mission I'm assuming the place you visited had the crystals, it's just they didn't give them you. Rather you're passing on the knowledge that they exist.

Also the reward is poor for an Elite mission. Which is why previously I was suggesting that taking out this mission may trigger a UA spawn in a SSS in the target area, allowing an option for an increased the reward and tying in with the plot (ie Federal Navy is just leaving with the crystal source - a UA) +250,000 creds

I kind of like the miss jump idea, but I don't quite see how it fits with the morse.
Perhaps we enter a new kind of space and can jettison there? :)

Aye aye cap'n! I'll wager this UA can locate itself wherever it is ;)

Actually, let's say an FSD failure does do something interesting on a jump... What would happen to wingmates slaved to that FSD? That's back to Halsey again...

Perhaps the UA works out it's location from detecting gravitational wells, which will point to the nearest mass.

Drop the UA at a La-Grange point. =p
