Judging by basic game design rules the riddle must be solvable with ingame mechanics. There are not many things left.

Let the UA damage your hyperdrive in the new long range explorer ship, for security reason take an SAP8 with you. And jump a long distance.
I am 90% sure something will happen.

Even "The Secret World" that had a lot of riddles where you had to use google (and that was wanted) provided ingame methods.
So yeah, instead of thinking so complicated, we should start thinking like a developer^^

btw, we have "miss-jumps" but they are bugs with the npc interdiction^^
if they interdict you while your drive counts down, it can happen that you jump into the next system and they pull you back. Then you jump again and most of the time it throws you into a sun.
Not a feature, its a confirmed bug^^

Maybe a UA can help get the name of "a certain celestial body, you know the one im talking about. place that isnt a place, key that isnt a key" thing? (quote taken from Elite/Founder mission)

I still think carrying the UA to a specific destination is what might be needed. We know the UA transmits its location - so perhaps it just needs to be taken to the correct location.

it's a big galaxy.

Aye but the question is how?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

And the thing is covered in symbols. If we focus on those that don't change, we might be able to find it.

Well I can give you some if you want to try stuff out yourself.

Yes! I'll add you in-game!

More than yesterday, but less than tomorrow ;)

KERRAAAAAAAAAASSSSHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! (SAID LIKE KAAAAAN!)

I also want to clarify a point.

The only mission I've seen that needs Explorer Elite is Obfuscation on the Outer Rim. That finishes with a mention of crystals.

The SAP8 mission needs Combat Elite. The description includes mention of a crystal.

Isn't there a black box recovery mission that needs Trader Elite? That ends with a mention of "you know what I'm talking about".

YES! We have 3 Elite missions, one for each role, and all connected to the SAP 8/UA/Raxxla/Whatever

It's not a coincidence...

Perhaps we should ask David Braben, who is Elite in the three roles, to take the 3 missions together and tell us what happens? ;)

Ok, it's CMDR Britain. I have one in my hold right now you can have.

Feel free to blow it up in the name of science if you need to, I can get more.

(Although I've tried blowing them up and nothing seemed to happen, no sparklies, nothing. =( )

You can shoot out my FSD if you want in return for this misjump test.

That's my point. I don't think missjump is an existing game mecanic.
Don't risk an UA until we know it is.
No harm in jumping 30 ly with all the funnies in the hold as long as modules are healthy.

We got this post back in 2013 with Mike Evans talking about hyperspace rules, and he mentions missjumps as a thing. A lot of our current features are exactly the same as described here.

Misjumps have their own set of rules:

  • Misjumps can result from a number of scenarios
    • A hyperdrive malfunction can result in a misjump
    • A galactic map malfunction can result in a misjump
    • Activating the hyperdrive inside certain space phenomena can result in a misjump
    • Attempting to tail-gate another ship’s jump can result in a misjump
  • A misjump transports the ship to a new destination
    • This distance between the new destination and the target destination is a random value based on the distance travelled (the longer the jump, the greater the misjump range potential)
    • The misjump destination may be the outer limits of an inhabited system, or a dark system
      • Such systems may not yet be in the player’s galactic map
    • Very rarely, a misjump can result in turning up somewhere else
  • After a misjump, the hyperdrive automatically runs a diagnostics test for a duration before it can be charged again
  • There is no way to force a misjump other than directly sabotaging the hyperdrive module to guarantee a malfunction

Aye but the question is how?

What exactly is it?

I still wonder why it transmits planets in morse then, a human "language", and why it knows exactly what they are called in our language.
if it is an alien artifact that transmits data to them, like a spy-drone, it wouldnt make sense to use a human language.

also: since we have send so many morse stuff into space, if i read correctly, the voyager probes did it, why would it be so weird if the ua is just a probe to communicate with us?
if it has access to our ships computer (would explain why it knows the names), and sends them out in "thargoid", it woul mean that its not a code, but an attempt to communicate with us, tell us how their language works.

you can see that on a real life example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmoXByLkK14
you show eachother something that you both know, tell them what you call it.
basically exactly what the UA does, it might aswell be a coincidence or lazyness that it uses morse and it was never intended that we decode it.

Oooh, are there symbols that change on the UA?

Well, the sounds change and the bliking changes.
We now the sound represent at least the current position.
We have looked at the blinks for relative position.
If we want to find an absolutte position, we must look for something static. I think that points towards the symbols.

can we really use the DDF as a reference? i mean...its the ominous DDF afterall...

but:
Activating the hyperdrive inside certain space phenomena can result in a misjump
like...a black hole?

There is no way to force a misjump other than directly sabotaging the hyperdrive module to guarantee a malfunction
if UA and Sap 8 are "keys", then it would basically count as "sabotage" or "modification"
so well...i still hope that someone tries a longrang jump with both of them

I'm not sure, but it's worth a shot. My buddy will be good to go in about 30 minutes and we are going to blast my FSD to near destruction and hop around. Maybe Ill hop through a black hole as well, but that gives me spooks.
