Nope not at all, I see no harm in that as long as every guild player is in a separate version of Open in which they only ever see other guild players. If they choose to play in solo, group or "normal open" their guild tag is not visible, and they have no guild comms - just the same ones everyone else has.

And what is that meant to archieve ? I haven't heard any argument that makes sense against it, but I might have missed it (not going to dig through 50+ pages). The least thing I expect from an MMO is a way to form groups and socialise. What you are advertising is a FPS in space and be done with it.

It's simply meant to achieve guild vs guild gameplay - so guilds can't seal-club single players or wings of 4 in normal-open. If you want to play Facebook Gangs in Space, you'll have to deal with other Facebook Gangs in Space - and all the little tiddly fish pottering around shouldn't be visible to you and disrupt your emergent guild gameplay.

The only compromise that I have seen that has any merit is a completely separate mode for those who wish guild content in open play.....funny thing is, when I started playing this game I was actually for guilds to be supported back in premium beta. Then I got a taste of a few rather colorful groups of players in "unofficial guilds" one before and one after launch and I say now I am of the opposite mindset. Not interested in guilds now in the slightest and this coming from an ex-player of WoW, TERA and ESO. I see the same problems when it comes to player owned stations, it isn't now and has never been a part of Elite to be a major player in the universe and it never should be.

You are assuming, that guilds could build up larger groups than wings in space, something I never said. I get tired of having to use outside the game tools and change the active window everytimg I want to organise something.

I think the "STARTS A POLL TO GET GUILDS IN ELITE DANGEROUS" kind of explains everything. No bias here folks! Calling it an official poll is the fraud bit IMO, but calling on Le Reddit Army to turn up in droves does seem a little shady too.

(I'm surprised this was allowed to proceed, to be honest, but having opinions on moderation here is a one-way ticket to Bansville, so I'd better leave it at that.)

These are my posts. I did not use the word "official" or imply that it was official. Unfair accusations.

So just rename Wings to Guilds then - problem immediately solved.

The problem with online polls is that they don't get an actual cross section of the population. They get people who happen to visit that site/page/whatever and that portion could be very different from the population at large. This is even more true for comment threads.

You also have to consider the overall plan for ED. There are certain things from both a design point of view and a resources (coding time etc) point of view that they won't or can't do.

So whatever the outcome of the poll is, it may not reflect the actual feeling and FDev may not go through with it.

If they don't, they aren't be evil, or ignoring their base. They are producing a certain kind of game. That game won't please everyone.

I absolutely agree. And if guilds aren't implemented then that is there choice.

It was my fault for assuming all MMOs have guilds when buying the game. This is still a beautiful, amazing game to me. And I'm glad I supported it.

So what do they care about? What do they want to urm, erm, do? What is the reason for them wanting to exist? What can groups not achieve in-game with things as they stand? How would implementing guilds benefit Elite?

That's great.

Why call them guilds in the first place? We are not craftsmen or merchants, necessarily. EVE calls them corporations. And aren't we already in the Pilots Federation?

Uhm, ok, didn't know there'd be that many lone wolves playing a MMO (makes me wonder why they do in the first place, but then, no interest in more of this arguing for arguings sake .. still miss any arguement that actually makes sense beside the frightening of the lone wolves)

In the thread there is a particularly ingenious solution. When someone plays solo, they still show up in the normal universe with everyone in open. BUT they are a different color on the radar. They can't be targeted or anything. They can still chat with open players too!

Just think how more alive the universe would be!

Yes a PvP opt in flag would be the best implementation. Unfortunately FD needed to reinvent the wheel... guess what, round is best.

We are not the frightened ones :D

Guildies are the ones begging for their style of gameplay to be introduced - as they cannot comprehend gaming without their safety blanket. Lone wolves just could not care less.

I'm not sure why you are putting all the blame on him.

I made the reddit post that got to the front page. His got unfairly downvoted during the night. I posted it again in the morning as I believed it would of interest to the reddit community (considering reddit was the influence that spawned the poll in the first place) and it gained traction.

Admittedly the "official" part was a mistake. It was meant to convey that it was a poll conducted using the forum software rather than the external "strawpolls" people post all the time. Unfortunately once you make a reddit post you can't edit the title. Apologies to anyone that felt misled.

I don't mind them blaming me. The conspiracy theories that have been flung in this thread are really funny, when all I did was start a poll on guilds/player stations. When I went to sleep, it was 55% no to 35% yes. But there were only 100 or so votes.

Then I wake up the poll being 55% for guilds/player stations and I am the criminal mastermind behind the greatest voter fraud in the universe!

As it now seems that a majority (cough cough) of 'players' not only want Guilds but also want Guild Owned Stations, no one has really answered a question I posted a couple of times in the early pages of this thread: "What do you hope to achieve by being in a Guild and having your own station?"
.
If it is just playing with your friends, well as long as your friends are limited to 15, go for it.
If it is to create your own little fiefdom, why? What will you get out of it except some pretty screen shots of YOUR station?
If you want to act like a one of the current factions, what will you change? You can't change the price of commodities, modules or ships (at least I am pretty sure you can't), so what will you do?
.
There has been some very vigorous posts supporting the inclusion of Guilds etc., but none really said what they want to do and why they want them? Convince us, tell us what your plans are.
.
We who are supporting the current system (i.e. the naysayers, the old stick in the muds, those who just don't understand how games are played) don't have to justify our stance as it is the current game. You, on the other hand, want rather massive changes to the infrastructure of the game, you should be able to convince us of the benefits since it will effect all players, whether you admit that or not.
.
P.S. Saying "Cos other games have guilds" is not a valid reason!

How are you so sure that none of the new accounts were for the no vote?

None of it matters to me :)

In fact please let me clarify that a bit. I'm not against guilds. I enjoy them in other games. Elite is not about guilds. If Elite changes to support guilds, I'd be disappointed, and a bit upset with the premise of Elite becoming decidedly non-Elite. However, it's all up to the devs.

Actually the whole point of solo mode is to avoid other people altogether, not as a contrived PvP flag - remember, the original assumption was that PvP was going to be rare so most player interaction on Open was going to be PvE. Solo as a way to avoid PvP emerged as a response to the much higher levels of PvP than originally expected.

If FD does give in and implement guilds, I really hope they also give us a real PvP flag. In my experience guilds all too often end up as a way for insecure individuals to set themselves up as despots over their tiny empires.
