Cold blooded murder

Why bother at all with shields? Sounds like your targets aren't going to get a shot off anyway. :p

Now come on, it was a one off lol!

Especially now I've discovered the secrets of USS, WSS and SSS :) I frequently visit conflict zones to open a can of whoop ass lol...and if it wasn't for my shields he'd have killed me as he rammed me :D

It's a godsend when your canopy is smashed and you're trying to dock at an Outpost to get it repaired!!

Could you elaborate?
Why is a docking computer a godsend in such a situation?
I can't imagine it being faster at docking than I am.
But it also seems such a waste of a module slot.

If you're on Xbox, gladly :) Cmdr nathdixon92

It is, shields are amazing! I can never quite get the trajectory right when docking - usually end up slamming into the control tower lol

Oh you mean the brake! Yeah, I hit the control tower too, sometimes intentionally :) It makes a good brake. Oh and no X-Box :-( Aren't you supposed to be in the X-Box forums? (joking)

Click bait is all. Looking for attention.

There's been a few times where my canopy has been smashed and life support offline where I've had to leg it to the nearest outpost for repairs. Get 7500m, cut the engines a nd let the docking computer glide me home quickly (haven't mastered manoeuvring docking pads just yet). Of course, where it's a Starport, I disengage the computer until I've posted myself through the letter box to avoid any scans.

Exactly! On both points lol!

And it's not much of a brake when your shields are offline...more like my gravestone.

Did you have to kill him indeed? Wasn't it enough to leave him with the 10% hull and go away? After all, from a certain point of view, mercy is more humiliating tha defeat.

Oh but that is just a matter of experience.
You will be flying without docking computer soon and then you can use the slot for something more useful.
There are some good vids about docking. It is much easier than it looks.
Having said that... complacency is the biggest enemy in ED. When you think you can do it all in your sleep the game will bite your head off :).

Also, just for clarification, why is it frowned upon to kill other players in smaller ships? Is it illegal?

I usually fly in group and don't really PvP, I was just curious. I'm an old Eve player and I thought this game was like that, where there are no rules. No? Is there some honor code or something?

Ohhh no, you mentioned the 'E' word. Expect lots of miserable old gits to appear and tell you that 'we' don't want this gae to be 'like that' and that this is 'not the game for you'. ;)

That's what I was thinking. I'm not one to shoot someone unprovoked, mind you, I was just curious.

Ha! But here's the thing: is it considered griefing to murder someone in this game? I don't really want this to be like Eve, either. I got tired of Eve after it became either join a massive coalition or stay in an NPC corp due to the amount of wardeccers. That said, if it's considered illegal to kill someone for no reason whatsoever in this game, that's pretty lame...bounties and wanted status notwithstanding.

Yep.. and yet.. so accurate.. Cliche's might be cliche's but if it quacks like a duck.. its a duck.

Call me thick, but I don't follow lol? Can you explain?

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would need a docking computer.

It makes life so mich easier, and besides it only uses a class 1 slot and I'm not in the type of ship for exploration. I only use it for the actual landing part - with Starport I boost my way in, occasionally doing some strange gymnastics across the entrance grating and tunnel and sometimes the central pylon...embarrassingly!

I may very well have left him alone after my opening salvo ...had he not then rammed me. I think he learned that the galaxy is a cold, unforgiving place where there is always something bigger in the next system.

I think I'll keep my computer for now. Like a condom or nuclear deterrence , better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. As mentioned above, it only occupies a Class 1 slot which isn't all that useful in my opinion :)

I loved EvE... but didn't like the griefer's charter - all it needed was consensual PVP flags and it would have been awesome. I admit.. I prefer to play PVE, and I can do that with Elite Dangerous. I actually think that Elite: Dangerous could benefit from the economics/industry/crafting side of EvE, not so much duplicate it, but be inspired by it. I'd still be playing EvE today if there wasn't such a emphasis on mega-corps and alliances. I always preferred to be a lone-wolf.. not something that is really a tenable position in EvE. But it is a tenable position in Elite.

So just to for-fill the stereotype as one of the old gits - "we don't want this game to be like that... grrrr... go back to eve.. grrrr." <shakes fist fiercely at you>

:)
