Guarantee that if a combat CG turned up there'd be plenty of pilots.
I have to disagree. That is certainly one appropriate demographic, but there is at least one other. For example, I know many commanders personally who used to be avid CG participants but are not participating in current ones, nor are they engaged in Powerplay at all.The most likely demographic to do CGs are those who follow Galnet and like the whole BGS. People in that demographic are also the ones who are most likely to participate in powerplay.
Where are they now? They have been so switched off by Powerplay, without ever pledging, that either (a) they have significantly reduced their in-game time, or (b) they have gone out exploring for weeks on end, or (c) both. One or two or them spend more time here in-forum than in-game, but I fear many in the (a) group are lost forever.
Option (D) they have reduced their in game time because they are very annoyed/angered by reputation decay (not merit decay)
Option (E) they have reduced their in game time because of changes to bounty and fine system that overly punish any mistake
Option (F) they got bored
Yes Lugh was certainly popular with the group of commanders I know personally in real-life. But then so were all of the other types of CG. We would vie with each other with exploration goals as well as help each other with bounty hunting and trading goals. It was a good time: a very good time.Because the CGs have been crap since 1.3
For the millionth time...WE NEED ANOTHER LUGH.
PP didn't even light up my touchpaper.I'm pretty sure CGs will pick up again once people have recovered from their powerplay burnout.
I went to Dajoar last night tooled up to see if I could kill any blockers or general baddies and the place was deserted. There were a couple of newbie's passing through but that was it. I hung around for ages and passed the time interdicting wanted NPC's and doing a few small local missions, but nothing.
Such a shame.
actually perhaps its time to implement small scale local community goal that can make small changes to the background sim state, new stations or other things at a local level rather than big bang things ( and it goes in the general direction of more dispersal that goes with powerplay)
Since apparently no one so far has actually answered the question: no, the numbers listed here in the active CG thread are not correct. I'm signed up for both CGs in 20 Oph, and while I can't remember the concrete number of contributors, there are at least several hundreds of CMDRs who signed up.Are the listed numbers right, are CGs dead?

If they are pledged to a power then travelling to do a CG is going to be problematic. Furthermore, they'll be off the powerplay hamster wheel and their merit decay will kick in. I think you've possibly uncovered yet another flaw in the powerplay model.
