Lol you are funny Jockey, only 30%? you must be timing the firing wrong, I get between 60% and 70% damage boost with torps.

PS

I thought it was meant to be a secret :p

What, you mean I didn't send that in a personal message !?

opps

;)

OOoohhhh. I miss my BOP ^,^ I can bring it here !!

Well, with all this talk of invisible ships, looks like the cat is out of the bag - I was so enjoying PvP from my B'rel as well :D
Oh well, pirates will want Tachyon scanners now :p

I dont have that many friends that play games. But i did have 4 friends that owned this game and quit in frustration because they cant take the game seriously. Fighting invisible groups and players was too silly for them to continue. Not sure what we could've accomplished just the 5 of us? Nonetheless, i am alone. What i want to know is, how is this splitting of the player base a good idea? Since they are inhabbiting the same universe but are invisible to eachother? It makes no sense!? Fighting for popular territory seems completely pointless having players spread between 3 different modes? Solo, open and group, heck there might even be 20 groups all playing just with their group. And they are all fighting for the same territory? How would that ever work? Im just so utterly confused at this game design desicion. It baffles me beyond belief!

People have different personalities. Some people will find a particular activity fun, others will be bored by it. I personally loathe PvP, others really like it.

The different modes allows Elite to entertain differing personalities. Introverts may like to go into Solo or Group, where they won't be bothered by others. Extroverts may prefer Open, where they can interact with others. Introverts aren't intrinsically better or worse than Extroverts, and Solo/Group isn't intrinsically better or worse than Open. I personally think Frontier have made a good business decision.

Cheers, Phos.

I just spent 3 hours mining in my new purpose built Type 7

4A (10 bin) Hopper, 160 Ton hold, defensive turrets and 2 mining beams.
The past 3 hours have been the second best thing I've done in game (first flight in my T9 was the best moment ever for me).

I'm collecting my Lakon family of ships, next on my hit list is a full explorer spec Asp, then my DBE that will be set up to join the Fuel Rats, then a DBS for fun and RES hunting.
I hope that by then, the DBE and DBS will have custom paints, as my 9 and 7 have the tactical packs and I use the white, my Asp has the White Apollo paint, so I need paints for my DBE and DBS when I get them.

After I complete my Lakon family of ships, I have no idea what I will do, but until then I'm enjoying my industrial ships.

I'm slowly getting up the money to get something other than a T-6 ^,^ haven't tried mining yet.

It's really simple, let me explain something my 6 year old understands;

When you don't worry about what everyone else is up to and just get on with it - it is a really good fun game.

It really is this simple and yet people struggle to understand this.
I mean honestly I do not understand how some folks get out of bed on a morning if all they do is freak out over what the rest of the world is up to.

At least I know how therapists are making money now, I think I might retrain to be one - talk about easy money.
Listen to people freak out over others getting on in life without them - send bill, profit.

Hey you dont have to get snippy with me mister, im still here remember? Im just alone and confused... though i understand my mates for leaving. I just want some explaination of WHY this was implemented? Because its pretty silly and downright unfitting for this game! Im on a "beer route" for fun... but getting interdicted by NPC's equaly much no matter where i am, feels bad. In the sense that i never feel isolated, the space i am traveling through feels exactly the same!!! Every speck of space is inhabbited by pirates. Right. I find myself more and more sitting in stations, reading and listening to music after my last friend left. :(
The urge to travel forth is dying, now without friends...i wonder if i should just pack it. Im not actually enjoying the game anymore.
But i have enjoyed it for a large amount of hours... but in all those hours i always felt there was something missing with every implementation the game offered. "Every other note on this piano is false but its a really nice looking piano."
I dont know... i just feel CON-sold... if you know what i mean! Hahaha.

I'm trying to see where in your argument your issue with the game is. Your issue seems to be your friends left because they don't enjoy the game and apparently that is the game's fault?

You likely looked at the game's multiplayer as something different than what was intended from the beginning.

The idea, from the very start, has always been that each player is able to choose who they will meet; it might be everyone that also wants to meet random players, it might be just a few specific players in a group, it might even be no one else (and, thus, playing the game solo). Being able to meet someone that doesn't want to play with others was never supposed to be supported. So much, in fact, that the game's networking is done in a way that reduces costs but allows players to arbitrarily block other specific players.

If you expected to be able to meet, and fire at, everyone else, then you clearly didn't look into how the game worked before making the purchase.

But based on this logic...Open is about meeting people...not killing them....Oh...I see what you did there!

Thanks for the tip. I have been thinking about fitting one of my Lakons, T9 maybe, and go mining after reaching my current goal -- own every ship A-rated except Conda, but still have $500M cash reserve (for Fed Corvette), by using conflict zone farming and reach combat Elite. Currently missing only T7, Orca, and an Adder. I think I will go with the T7 w/ your load out when I grab it at Jameson.

My sister had a blast with Mechwarrior after I made her a hot pink Mad Cat.

ahh, you did too! I made a series of custom pink paintjobs and two "special" mechs for my all-woman team.
We won the Battlenet Championships!

If you were proposing the number of wanted ships in RES scale with the number of commanders, I wouldn't have objection to it. Because the number of wanted NPC ships per commander stay the same as in Solo/Group. That's fair.

I agree with you and gMcizzle, this sounds very doable without taking anything away from other modes.

I just face palmed so hard I hit Adam and Eve in the head.

Well, as you've clearly missed the first page of this thread, here is a copy of my post from the first page (third one down).
I keep it up to date with more recent information added at the end (and the edit marker in the post shows when I last added to it)

From the Kickstarter;
*And the best part - you can do all this online with your friends, or other "Elite" pilots like yourself, or even alone. The choice is yours...*
*you will be able to control who else you might encounter in your game – perhaps limit it to just your friends? Cooperate on adventures or chase your friends down to get that booty. The game will work in a seamless, lobby-less way, with the ability to rendezvous with friends
*Play it your way*
Your reputation is affected by your personal choices. Play the game your way: dangerous pirate, famous explorer or notorious assassin - the choice is yours to make. Take on missions and affect the world around you, alone or with your friends.*
*You simply play the game, and depending on your configuration (your choice) *
*We have the concept of “groups”. They can be private groups just of your friends or open groups (that form part of the game) based on the play styles people prefer, and the rules in each can be different. Players will begin in the group “All” but can change groups at will,*

All Players Group– Players in this group will be matched with each other as much as possible to ensure as many human players can meet and play together
Private Group – Players in this group will only be matched with other players in the same private group
Solo Group – Players in this group won’t be matched with anyone else ever (effectively a private group with no one else invited)

Also, MMO does not mean "social" (It means lots of people connected)

Wikipedia;
A massively multiplayer online game (also called MMO and MMOG) is a multiplayer video game which is capable of supporting large numbers of players simultaneously. By necessity, they are played on the Internet. MMOs usually have at least one persistent world, however some games differ.

Oxford English Dictionary (Online);
An online video game which can be played by a very large number of people simultaneously .

No.

None are planned at the moment.

It can be more profitable, and it will apply to both players and NPCs.

Unlike community goals, Powerplay is a swinging balance - ie solo players are also balancing solo players.

The mechanics of powerplay, particularly the interface between player and power being an almost direct copy of the community goal model, gives the entire experience an MMO-guild type feel to the gameplay.

Is this MMO-style a new direction for Elite: Dangerous? Or will you be still focussing on the single player immersive experience, even if that single player is playing in a universe filled with other players?

Thank's very much to you and the FDev team for all of your efforts. One or two subjective niggles of mine aside the game is the one I've been waiting for for years and I'm totally enamoured with it.

We are supporting multiplayer and the solo experience. Community Goals are carrying on too.

The overall thread topic (+ How XB1 fits);

On that last point, Producer Ben Dowie reiterated that Xbox One and PC players won’t be playing head-to-head—although they’ll be playing in the same simulated universe, they’ll never encounter each other in space, likely because Microsoft’s Xbox patch cycle adds complexity to Frontier’s game update procedure. This means that PC players and Xbox players will often wind up on different clients, which means no head-to-head play. To that end, anticipated PC-centric features will likely land on PC first.

And regarding the game design;

I pointed out that there’s frequent contention online about the “right” way to play, be it casual or hard-core, and Braben agreed. “But there shouldn’t be a ‘right’ way,” he said. “You should do what makes you excited. I don’t want there to be a ‘right’ way, because then you’re not necessarily playing the way you want to play. And people have come up with lots of suggestions, some of them very constructive and sensible, and we do listen, and people hopefully have seen that we’ve changed things and adjusted things, but not in a way—we hope!—to upset people. We’re doing it to make the game better!”

To highlight something from that above quote;

“You should do what makes you excited. I don’t want there to be a ‘right’ way, because then you’re not necessarily playing the way you want to play."

Here is a quote from Zac Antonaci for the "game is dying" pro-claimers.
Dated 10th July 2015;

They need to be.

Look at the current posts on the subreddit and the forum. Your core player base is simply stopping playing. You might be selling copies but if your core community is splitting or stopping playing then you have a problem.

Hey Fred,

I wanted to reply to this honestly if I may.

I'm not going to be talking about active player numbers explicitally but I can tell you without question that the game has a very healthy and thriving community who enjoys hours upon hours of Elite. You really don't need to worry on that point.

<snip>

Zac

According to some members of the community, Solo players should have a limited or no effect on Powerplay - or, alternatively, playing in Open should offer Powerplay bonuses. Is this something you are considering?

No. For us Solo, Groups and Open are all valid and equal ways to play the game.

I did try a T9 with 3 miner 2 beams on it - while it is amusing to rip apart asteroids in seconds, trying to move around tightly packed chunks of rock can be a pain.
That is why I went with the T7. Not as funny with only 2 miner 1 fitted. But it can move around much better. And to be fair, 160T hold is still more than enough to sit out there for a couple of hours.

Though, if you've the time - the T9 is worth a try for giggles ;)

I had been thinking about mining, esp now that there are the mining lasers & drones. I spent many pleasant hours in Freelancer post-campaign mining diamonds in Dresden & transporting them to Kyushu. Very calming, very meditation-inducing.

Do you have a Shipyard link of your T-7 mining rig's outfitting?
