Sarah moved from current project, update no longer coming?

I like PP I dont care about CQC but I would be willing to lose PP and CQC just for an combat AI update

Amen. If CQC and PP were removed to pave the way for better AI, I wouldn't shed a tear. [Well CQC might turn out to be fun for a quick blast...]

No, it isn't. They are both forms of entertainment. Entertainment is absolutely the last thing in this world to get upset about.

We don't know what's going on so this thread is just rampant speculation.

I recall a post of hers regarding her inability to beat a pair of Elite AI Vultures in a combat-spec Annie. Perhaps an investor in FD saw that post? You know what that statement is? In the software world that can be construed as a statement of fitness for purpose, i.e. a promise of a feature. That could have gotten the company in legal hot water with an investment firm's lawyers, perhaps? I don't know. You don't know. Only Sarah and her boss knows.

All we can do is this:

Sarah, sorry to hear about the trouble. Hope everything is well, and we can enjoy your AI minions in the future. Good luck with your new secret Project X! :)
But the combat update was something that is more than needed , and its gone now...

This was work to enable more dynamic and engaging AI in a game which severely lacks content.

FD have decided to pull the plug on this content.

You've just used the word "sane" in that context.

No, for all accounts, they decided to *delay* it. We lack all information at this point.

Irrespective of who said what, what's gone on etc. etc. I find it rather telling that so many (self included) are prepared to assume the worse form Frontier. Following this game has sort of been like the 'death of a thousand cuts'. Such promise from the combat alpha, followed by 'p2p multiplayer's-a-bit-wonky-gate', 'offline gate', 'vertical-slice-gate', 'lack-of-comms-gate', 'PowerPlay! The-feature-no-one-asked-for-gate', 'Xbox-gate', 'CQC! The-second-feature-no-one-asked-for-gate', 'Drew-leaving-gate' and now this.

Yes, worrying indeed. I'm pretty sure that no one thinks of me as a white knight (though I was accused of being one over a year ago), given my posting record of late. But, really, I have felt the need to put a more reasonable slant on things, because most of this thread is way over the top.

Very surprised that the cavalry (Zac and/or Edward) have not been sent in to dampen down the flames. But then when it comes to PR, FD always fire their shotgun at their own feet.

SJA said her AI improvement will be implemented at some point in the futire, so look on the bright side people, better that than left on the cutting room floor :p

Is that a statement of fact? Could it not be someone thought the idea of a 'hard' AI could scare off new players and that would lead to a lower return on investment on the cash cow? :p

On the communication front who would you choose? Sarah or Zac?

I go with Sarah. I prefer truth to spin.

I know you're angry and I take your point but I don't think this is really fair.
Some people are in positions where they are paid to spin to some extent and are more constrained.

SJA did come across as a breath of fresh air in this respect but I don't think that should reflect negatively on other individuals who are doing what they are paid to do, within the constraints they are given and to the best of their ability.

Talk about a thread filled with overreactions and misguided hate. It's pretty lame to say that she was the only good dev or forum poster at FD. If you are tired of FD or the game in general then maybe it's time you take a break from the game and forums and don't drag everyone else down on your way out.

If the member of staff had been moved to something the community wants even more like Thrargoids then all well and good but the tone of the tweet and the subsequent retrospective censorship does not fit with this type of move.

I disagree. When you've been working hard on something, and you're making progress and your baby *this close* to blooming into beautiful completion, it can be extremely difficult and frustrating to have to put it down and walk away.

It usually doesn't even matter how awesome the new task is, because the frustration comes from putting down something that you're invested in just as you were about to get the payoff. Moving to something that is objectively just as awesome doesn't diminish that frustration, because that awesome other-thing isn't your baby (yet). The frustration is subjective, not objective - it does not reflect on the new task.

I don't think there's any suggestion of censorship. The deleted tweets were more casual than professional; the kind of thing that we say in the heat of the moment and then later decide it's best to delete them.

I don't doubt it was shelved for now. For how long? I don't know.
Delays happen in the grand cycle of development, however it is disappointing.

The amount of dev communcation and community hype for the update itself was encouraging--
honestly I was really looking forward to the more immersive AI, but I don't doubt there are other issues that need to be worked on first-- such as the background sim and broken RES etc.
You never know, but a little dev communication on why it was stopped would be nice.

Not really looking forward to CQC unless it's a good moneymaker, but we'll see. Seems like something to please the Xbox and Psychotic PvP crowd.
