FAO FRONTIER: List of Graphical Changes / Issues for since Patch 1.3

Get ready for a bit of trolling here.

Whoa hey someone could tell me where I could take such a lovely pic ingame? It's from Steam promotional pics, it looks gorgeous!

Could not resist, sorry.

Edit: I might as well give myself the answer: get yourself a time machine and jump into the past, bozo.

I went to Apam Napat recently and the glorious eye candy that once was is, in part, no more. That picture you've just showed is very telling. I'm really starting to forget how the game used to look, really hoping Frontier find time in their busy schedule and a solution to bring the dust (fog), draw distance and whatnot back. Fingers crossed!

You must know how to mod the graphic settings. Its not hard to do it yourself. Google it. Youtube even has video tutorials.

Change it yourself. IF you got a super good system crank up the mod of the game files.

Some of the changes such as the reduced fog quality, and the paint wear and tear you cannot fix with any mod.

It's clear that there is a lot of FUD being spread around here, so it's worth pointing out that there is nothing worth debating until we understand the problem.
I can't comment on exactly how the engine works, but suffice to say, it's not just a simple 'give us a HQ texture pack' answer.

But that is exactly what worked on Granites youtube tutorial for the downgraded planet textures and the galaxy background. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIosivU9uVw)
It is literally activating the HQ texture pack, by changing a value of 2560 for the Ultra settings into a 4096 or even 8192 resolution value at the right section of the GraphicsConfiguration.xml.

No, there is no "HQ texture pack". The detail on the planets are generated in realtime while you are playing the game using procedural algorithms. By changing that value you are simply telling the engine to generate more detail. There is no "texture pack" as such. Same thing applies to the skybox.

Other parts of the game might be using traditional premade textures. Especially in regards to ships/parts of ships.

The things people talk about in this thread touches on all kinds of rendering techniques and algorithms.

In other words...

It's not just a simple 'give us a HQ texture pack' answer.

It is not true, we can't change any of the files because FD hardcoded and they make status_Q and make censorship on this matter.

Elite is still a lovely galaxy to fly around in, but I too have seen the graphic quality being scaled back, along with ship running costs...and I still miss my Bobblehead

You know why the detail has been knocked down a peg or two?
To make the console version look better when it comes out, and so they can say “we have optimised the game” which really means they have dropped the graphics down a notch, right across the board.
You know it’s true and I know it’s true.

I don't understand the logic though. How does it "make the console version look better"?

So "you know nothing about the engine so you better shut your mouth"? Until we understand the problem?

Uh-uh, mr. I BRING FRIENDS, we are free to share our discoveries and discuss our opinions on them anytime. Heck, even speculate about possible reasons, since FD doesn't want to bother to make this situation clear.
That's what public forums are for.

Of course we don't know the specifics and we never will because FD will never share them. Thing is, as a consumer, I don't give to sticks about what magic they use, or how easy or hard is it to do something. I just want top notch visuals and variety.

If you are so peeved by us expressing our opinions, I advise you to get a new sikk ink with "Property of Frontier Developments™" on your forehead in roses and bones, since you're obviously have no valuable insight to offer here due to NDA.

:S
I’m sure that the Xbone’s graphics can’t match that of a GTX970-GTX980
So as the game has been out for some time and that your hoping to gain sales on a new platform, you wouldn’t release a product that was inferior to the version before it.
So in doing so they have dulled the PC version to make the console version look shiny.

And while this topic is active again, imma drop this gorgeous vid from my bookmarks. It's the old roid fields and shadows again.

Except that the XBox One's graphically outperforms the minimum system requirement PC (Nvidia GTX 260 / ATI 4870HD) specced for Elite Dangerous. So if Frontier is happy to compromise the look of the game on low spec PCs while preserving it on high spec PCs, why would it be unhappy to compromise it less on the XBox One while preserving it on high spec PCs?
