I have now made about 12 to 15 (wasn't counting) trips since my earlier post and I am happy to say that I didn't have a single scrape.

The pitch attitude had obviously been my initial problem, by not adjusting pitch angle at all, just using thrusters to line up, keeping to the alignment tips you all gave has resulted in very successful slot exits (touch wood).

So I am feeling much happier now about my late-night selling of the trusty T9 to move to the 'conda with the discount (in case it finished).

Thanks again everyone.

No offence Bro', but how did you get to Anaconda level without working out the relative positions of Cockpit to overall ship "bulk"? LOL.
The 'conda Cockpit is on the very top of the ship, so you need to align the centre marks on the sides of the weapon reticules with the top of the widest part of the opening.
I find that this lets me get through easily whether I have the gear up or down.

Hope this helps.

Rock-on CMDR.

Lol this is funny, ah man.

There are probably way too many videos on Youtube now, demonstating the ol' "Anaconda through the porthole" trick.

There is really one way to do it efficiently:

1 - wait until docking magnet release your ship
2 - check your scanner for ships passing over
3 - disengage landing gear
4 - thrust up slowly
5 - when at the same altitude as the mail slot, check your scanner for incoming ships from the outside
6 - point the nose of the ship in the mail slot general direction
7 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygE01sOhzz0&t=58

Since a class 1 compartment fits a standard docking computer, one would think a class to would accommodate an enhanced one in a future patch that also exits.

Take into mind the fact that the anaconda's cockpit is rather flush against the top of the ship while the ship itself has a huge bottom so what you want to do is take it out almost scraping the top end of the ship, it'll really look and feel as if you're going to scrape of the paint on the top but you won't.

what i would do is buy a docking computer

and then watch it fly through the letterbox observing how far your cockpit is away from scraping the top.
that will give you a rough guide of how much wiggle room you have.

Then just forget the wiggle room stuff & keep the docking computer :p

yes and no for me.

i like to fly through the letterbox, but have the computer land on the pad.
i always seem to get the pads right in front of the letterbox

Talking about undocking... it took me an Anaconda to learn that the stations have guidance rails along the mailbox. Keeping the centerline indicators (circled) between the rails (arrows) works most of the time if the angle of approach is not too extreme.

Oh it's real easy.. select "launch" at which time all the migrant station workers take their noon break to eat, then escape to the main menu and start again in open or where ever and bam, you're through the slot. I mean it's low rent sure, but how many times do you want to navigate the same causeway? Even ship captains hire pilots to drive them in and out.

I quite clearly admitted that what I was doing was getting the pitch wrong, which meant that because the ship is so long and fat that I would either bottom out if I was pitched down or I would scrape the top if the pitch was a bit high. I have piloted larger ships (except the Fed Brick which looks boring, Furrylance and Orca which don't appeal to me so far) and never had any issues in manoeuvring them, not the T7, T9, Clipper or Python. Sure it would have been OK to just "scrape along" as I found my way but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask how others had got over this. I checked for posts on the forum and watched loads of yutube but nothing quite fit the bill.

If someone had said to me, or in a post or on a video - "keep the ship level in pitch all the way from the pad" I would not have had an issue.

Thanks again to all who took the trouble to offer tips.

P. S. I had heard of Combat Logging (I did have to look it up as I thought it might be a way of keeping track of your battles) but I have never heard of "Undocking Logging".

Same way you get to Carnegie Hall, practice practice practice! Aim a little high and don't dilly-dally, the auto-rotation will kick off as you're transiting the slot!

Being the largest and most expensive ship in the game so far, I spent a little time on youtube and here in the forums to see if there was anything I needed to know. The right way to enter-exit the porthole was one of the first things I learned.

the one thing that bummed me out about the conda (and 99% of the ships) is that you can't enter the mail slot vertically.

Far as I'm aware the T6 is unique in that respect <3

Well OK so I can actually get it out but very rarely without horrible scraping sounds and often I worry that I'm gonna get jammed and have over 11Mil insurance bill (plus 368t imps dead).

What I am looking for is a dummies guide to undocking the anaconda successfully every time.

I don't see how anyone can actually dock the beast manually, you just can't see where you are going really so the docking computer is a permanent fit as far as I am concerned. How I wish it could also function as an "undocking" computer.

So any hints / tips / links to useful videos will be very welcome.

What?

I really don't get it. These threads pop up every week or so.

Are you REALLY having trouble of flying that ship out of or into a station?

It's easier than a T9 Heavy to fit in there.

There's spare room for a Python on the side!!!
