Do you have a link for that Id like to read it and my search didn't pull it up
It could be
Fight Stick and not Flight stick?? They make an arcade style controller:

I cannot find any mention of a full sized joystick for the Xbox One or PS4 anywhere. Again, it comes down to game types and mapping. Getting dual sticks to map over to a single joystick is very, very hard. Maybe with the advent of the Elite controller we'll see some more options, but I still think that the Elite controller only allows button remapping, not stick functions?
EDIT - That appears to be correct, i.e. stick functions cannot be remapped outside of any game options. From the Microsoft Elite Controller site:
"Assign any of 14 inputs to the ABXY buttons, paddles, D-pad, triggers, and thumbstick clicks."
I think that creating a joystick that replaces one or other stick with a separate "small" stick for the second stick would work fine. Having a switch to swap sticks in hardware/firmware would be trivial. But it would end up very expensive and a bit niche. And it does break the Microsoft concept of pure living room entertainment. They don't
want gamers sitting at tables to play. Couch. Kinect. Wireless everything.
Watch TV That's their concept, and a 3rd party hardware company might struggle to get their product licensed if it breaks this. Read the description of the Fight Stick, which to me is a table-top device, and it says in
bold, "Non-slip foam padding coincides with where the controller rests on your legs during lap-mounted gameplay" We've all experienced how Microsoft work with this stuff, and they're determined that the Xbox One fits a certain type of user.
