Say wwwhhaaatttt? Have you ever cooked a quiche?
It's odd that people don't at least start with the previous two Elite games for a start. There were outposts even on airless planets, they were worth visiting just for the views. Then there was some basic mining. Stalking assassinations leaving the ground was cool not to mention attacking the police and watching them leave smoke trails as they descended. That was 20 years ago on a 1mb Amiga.
Why do guys think planetary landings will be devoid of content? Does anybody think when people will be landing on planets there will be nothing to do there?

Why?
Well, the fact that we are glued to our seat, ie cannot move a muscle, except of course our head to look around, sort of puts a dampener on any activities.
Why put a lander on Mars NASA? Can't walk around. No point!
No mission structure. Gear is wimpy. No weapons, nothing to kill. Costs money, doesn't make it. Meh.
Seriously, reading this forum has convinced me that there is no such state as "boredom" it's just a shorthand for "boring people."
I'm not even too bothered by landings, I just want atmospheric entry & flight. Pick some mountains close together, and fly between them really fast. Neeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooooow.......

How does one eat a sock? Boil it and toss in oil and parmesan?
meh I think it'll be the one thing Braben has pushed in almost every single interview since last year.
Big game hunting.
You'll land your ship and a menu will come up and say "You have successfully landed. There are animals here. Big ones. Would you like to go BIG GAME HUNTING?"
if you click no nothing happens
I'll eat a sock
I think if it is Planetary landings to be announced, and yet no first person walking, it will probably be just landing at outposts on the surface, with similar menus to now in space stations, just like in this picture.

So what exactly happens after you have landed on the terrain?
Stare out of the window?
For how long?
Or have I missed something?
From the top of my head...
These only apply to potential game play on planets/moons without an atmosphere...later stages of planetary landings (gas giants, earth-like worlds with wild life and cities) not included. These would of course add even more possibilities.
- Take photos of locations (spy missions, or prepping missions for colonization)
- Do bombing raids on factories/pirate bases.
- Launch probes into the ground for detailed scans and samples.
- Deploy mining devices.
- Scoop rare organic compounds from geysers on ice worlds with and underground ocean.
- Potentially find rare ruins or other artifacts from long lost civilizations.
- Maybe be able to deploy a remote controlled vehicle of some sort for more detailed interactions.
And yes, do normal "station stuff" on planets side bases/settlements of course.
Also, taking in the sights. Maybe not "gameplay", but getting the sense of scale of the gameworld and more varied environments would greatly enhance the experience.
All things that can happen on a world without atmosphere and still from within the cockpit.
Can probably come up with even more examples...but I have a nebula to explore at the moment!![]()
