Elite Dangerous and Windows 10 Discussion thread.

The only problem I had with it was a missing xinput1_3.dll

Downloaded it from http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/X/xinput1_3.dll/9.15.779.0/download.html and put it in the main client directory (D:\Applications\EliteDangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1001 for me) and all was good.

I would not recommend downloading and installing DLLs from unsecure locations. You only need to install the last DX update to have XINPUT1_3.DLL installed, this can be downloaded from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=35

Or you can do it much easier - simply re-install the launcher, it installs DX update and Visual C++ redistributables.

Actually Alek, installing the launcher did not install the relevant files.

The version of DirectX you linked is for windows up to 7. It will probably work still in 10, but generally I prefer to only put in place the file I actually need, rather than install a prior version of directX just to provide it.

This is a DX update required for most of the games, and Windows version is irrelevant.

Have the issues been fixed? Are Win-10 users still not able to play?

Someone let me know so that I can get my upgrade.

Just updated last night...aside from some initial hiccups...mostly with my security software...and some back work to hunt down issues...everything runs well thus far...elite on log in had some update for me to do and has played flawless since install.

on an aside note...at this time im still liking my old win 7 ultimate 64 better...even though 10 boast being able to do more with dx 12 only in 10

I upgraded to windows 10 today.

It did not recognise my nvidia card and so resolution was poor and could not play ED.
So I went and downloaded new driver and then all is good.

For me ED works great on win 10.

Upgrade this mornin, and everything is working great. Had a small problem with sound, but after switching between 2 output modes things started to work again.

Its to early to call the game play a lot smoother, but the game play seems a lot smoother...

What issues?
Playing on Win10 since last week. No issues.

MSI-G43 Z77 chipset
core i5 3570k
gtx 660
win 10 pro
keyboard/mouse

I had absolutely no issues with the Windows 10 upgrade nor a Windows 10 clean install which I did about half an hour after the upgrade was completed.

AMD is still getting completely unplayable framerate with 15.7.1 and 15.7 drivers in SC (like 15 FPS). Two or more threads on this subject, multiple tickets from multiple users, dxdiag compilations, and all we've gotten is essentially "we are working on it" with no updates. If you have Nvidia go ahead it's pretty much good across the board. AMD? Forget about it.

Got it last week and the game does seem a bit better with smoothness.. perhaps the OS is using my system's resources better?

like I said...only a few hiccups...none with ED...well the NVidia issue...but that was solved with going and getting latest driver...which I had postponed anyhow till 10...so probably was just as much my doing...but the feel of 10...nevermind...different topic...all should be fine with the upgrade...if video doesn't pick up you probably an NVidia guy and just need to dl and setup new driver.

Not true, I have an AMD card and get no frame rate lag. There may be other factors contributing to your issues. Conflicting drivers from other hardware, software issue etc or even just your particular model of card. Please don't generalise that all AMD cards have issues.

The only graphics issues I get with windows 10 and AMD is that in Super Cruise you sometimes get a slow mo effect. It's not the same as graphics frame rate dropping since you'd expect the video to get jerky in that case but instead everything just slows down. It makes interdictions really easy to do and avoid. Obviously it looks like garbage and isn't good for gameplay. But this only happens sometimes in SC never in normal space. Normal space performance is unchanged from prior to upgrade to windows 10.

Mind sharing what card and drivers you run on? Multiple users have reported issues on 300, 200 series of the card, on both 15.7.1 and 15.7 drivers. Only upon downgrading did they fix this issue. The game was working perfectly on Windows 8 with 15.7. It has to be a problem on Win 10, and either a problem with AMD, FD, or both.

Should I install Windows 10?

Just got the update notification from Microsoft that I can download and install Windows 10.... but should I? I am really not sure if it'll be a giant cluster of poopiness if I do it now. will it work without problems with ED? will it work without problems period?

My system includes an Nvidia GTX770 card, I7 processor.
Upgraded to Windows 10 without touching ED install.
Only issue I get is a Windows error report dialog on exiting the game.

Frame rate in ED seems to have improved since I upgraded to Windows 10.
