So if I understand correctly, in season 8: 'Elite Dangerous: Time', you get to build your own time-machine from looted UAs and have to accept the mission to go back in time to kill the emperor to appease the Thargoid overlords?

Yep. That's about the size of it. Of course, there's the whole transtemporeally fusing into your talking ape-self from the future who has to be shaved and wear a skin-skin and gets killed after stabbing the emperor thing, which becomes a real problem for lots of players who rage-quit. IIRC, there was also a lot of complaint threads about the 5.4 "Knives & Axes" update being perma-buggy on the Mac.
Still, Powerplay got really interesting...

Nonsense.jpg

On a somewhat less frivolous and shoddily-crafted note, though.... no... I've got nothing.

I just ran across a mission with a really intriguing description.

There's a part that says "Place that isn't a place, a door that is also the key"

Could this be somehow tied in with the UA mystery?

Your guess is as good as ours, I doubt they would restrict the solution to elites only.......however I wouldn't put anything out of the running as everything obvious has been tried......I think?

Hafnium Report - Reshas - Confirmed UA System
00:00 - Isinor Navy Hafnium Convoy with 3 Conda Wing + Support Wing
00:01 - Zip out to over 5km, T9 Targeted, Weapons deployed
00:02 - Support Wing leaves (thats earlier than normal)
00:08 - Wobble begins
00:09 - Jumps 8.53ly to Crucis Sector HC-U B3-3 (Uninhabited)
00:10 - T9 and 2 Low Wakes on scanner, No Wing

I didnt follow further. I am allied with Isinor.
Having weapons deployed just might have been the difference, I doubt it, but will continue to investigate. I suspect I lost the wing because of going to an unpopulated system, I know it causes these wings issues, as they have no target and can just drop out of SC. Luck.

New to ED and quite intrigued - and nowhere close to going after something that could bite back ;)

Three signals - universal references - triangulation :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-ray_pulsar-based_navigation

Haven't been around much yet - do some of the stars make noises ?

Jes' me 0.02 cr ...

We've tried to trilaterate a source location using the sale value at black markets. There was no specific area, let alone direction we could find. Azaleach was the lowest at 168KCr.

I also added a bunch of black holes and impossible to reach stars to TGC/TOR by trilaterating their distance from multiple systems. It was a fun project but ultimately no direct use to the UA investigations.

It does seem to keep coming up so if someone is willing to sacrifice their UA, then by all means...

But we're talking about a bunch of people sitting around a UA watching it expire, right? I don't understand how this is different from the first UA I found, when I was busy in debug camera and accidentally let it expire which a bunch of people sitting around watching. There are videos of that happening. What is this test going add to our knowledge?

No one stationed with a ship very close to the expiring UA, with FSD charged and zero speed, ready to jump. But I agree with those skeptics about this test.
BTW I think it must be ruled out.
I'm still convinced the the solution is in the UA sound. Something that we did not spotted, or that we spotted without understanding. The UA bg noise morse (VID 8), for example, that perhaps is not morse at all, but it hides some other code instead...
Then no one took an UA to the MOON, and no one ever listened to it from an ORCA. For how much silly it could seem, was never done despite being the easiest test in the galaxy.

My first capture. How NOT to perform a Hafnium Convoy test
It is very short

Remember to press the correct fire button

Man, bailing out when the shield fails is ok, but this...:D

edit: my bad, you confused fire with cargo-scan not SC...

happend to me more often than i wanted, my cure was:

  • nonlethal/weak weapons and scanners are always on secondary fire.
  • cargo an kws never share a group with real weapons.
  • (only for fixed weapons) if possible dont direcly aim when the scan starts.

Sorry if these questions have been asked, but I couldn't find any answer in the wiki:

- May I ask who submitted this entry? It's written "player submitted" but states that we must not "repeat history", and it's something that gets repeated a lot in the galnet articles supposedly related to the UA. "Look back at history", "don't repeat history", and so forth.
- Has anybody taken the UA to the Antares system? We might find hints...
- Is the audio identical to all members in a Wing while listening to the UA? (Especially regarding the purrs)
- Has anybody dropped two UAs next to each other to see if the sounds are identical?

I started reading all the galnet articles and I have to admit that if there are hints, they've managed to hide them well...

Its been a while, but I seem to remember someone created a new Forum ID "DarkWheel". No idea if it was a player trying to be clever, or someone at FD considering it a way to direct our efforts. He was run off pretty quick.
No idea about Antares
The Audio is different to different observers. Some think this means something, others think it means there is nothing of value to hear.

Hints ? My rear end !

Great, if you are positive that no damage was done to the UA at all, and that there was no Warp signature to follow after it died, then we have exactly 0 leads to follow. :(

Guess you were away a few weeks ago when certain people were DEMANDING that this experiment be done on an existing UA, would have saved many pages.

Pretty sure I mentioned it back then too. But as you say we don't have much else to try.

Hafnium Report - Reshas - Confirmed UA System
... CUT ...
I didnt follow further. I am allied with Isinor.
REP for: "Chapter of ISINOR" is no real problem to restore. (Reshas and other systems)
But in "ISINOR" you can get an unsolvable problem, like I have.
"Chapter of ISINOR" is a Powerplay victim and stays at 3,3% since V1.3. and has nothing to say anymore. (thats why no permits possible for interested CMDR's)
And the "GOLD NATURAL xxx" Bounty/Fine you never ever can pay. So the system is total dead. Especial as "Antiques" are now also available elsewhere ...

And for what? There is no station ...

Do we have a list of the systems where UAs have been found? Do those systems feature airless planets? If they do is there anything special about those planets or anything they orbit or orbits them? In trying to see if Horizons is the next step to this mystery.

There is a list on the wiki. Horizons better not be the next step, it's not going to be out for at least 3 months.

Thanks for your reply! All right, quite interesting if the audio is different to different observers. Are there videos of different CMDRs recording the same UA? (I'd like to overlap the different recordings see if something comes out of it.) I think the purrs mean something 'cause the chittering does and is shorter. They wouldn't put so much effort on the chittering being morse to then have the purrs be random, would they?

The weirdest audio happened when SAP8 containers were placed next to the UA, does it ALWAYS happen?

If no UA holder went there, it might be good to pay a visit to the Antares system. But then again, what for? ...

Final Hafnium report. Couldn't shake the escort AGAIN. Its either dumb luck, or something based on your history. When I started playing with Convoys, they would nearly always drop 1 Conda on the 1st jump. 2nd Conda might take a couple more jumps to shake off, but not too bad. Since I did a few trials of actually attacking the T9 and taking the Hafnium, the escort is extremely difficult to shake. Luck, Coincidence, Who Knows. SSSSS.

If anyone is interested in critiquing my methods, here is a capture of the 2nd jump. (Excuse the TMS commentary :))
