the john harper book mentions humans using "thargoid derived" technology. Given it looks alien but uses morse and "our" stellar/station names, i think its more likely connected to some kind of shadowy "organization" of humans instead of a "first contact" type of deal. I think humanity in the elite universe in 3301 is past that stage, and it would fit the events being played out in galnet.

in the book: (spoilers)
thargoid derived weapons are fitted to ships of a dark wheel offshoot faction that resides on soontill, an ancient thargoid "lost world"

In this spoiler is an interesting link.
It backs up what you are saying somewhat.

Also I have seen other 'secret organisations' that are not Dark Wheel and are not factions.
Their missions are very rare, I have only ever seen one and they are not the Elite ranked missions.

I'll just leave this here.

Historical flag, eh? Maybe it's the Thargoid-Human translator? Could it be translating the names of celestial objects? Or could my previous theory be right and it's a Thargoid FSD? Could it be that it's locking on to objects? Maybe the messages being in morse ties in with it being a translator?

Obviously all wild speculation, what do you guys think?

Historical flag ? Anything in the OLD thread of experiments that has to do with Locks and Keys or shapes ? Is the "Historical" referring to the last Thread ?

what if the UN is kind of a key!
look at the shape. maybe its some kind of key that we need to find his lock?
the one who was with frontier may said some clues:
https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange..._the_whole_week_part_of_the_frontierteam_due/
*thier shape*
*waving the historical flag*
what all of that mean?

I'll just leave this here.

It's a very good hint indeed!

1) Knowledge of the Elite Universe lore is REQUIRED
2) the SHAPE!

CMDRs, let's reset and start thinking again!

@Han_Zen & clavain: you are the masters of the Elite Lore! Open your minds again :D

The Historical Flag is referring to Elite Universe history: things like the Antares incidents, the foundation, the Thargoid war, things like these...

EDIT: and, People, believe me: IT'S THE KEY TO RAXXLA.

He specifically said it wasn't a key: in response to "Looks like a key" he said "Close enough, but nope. #waving the historical flag#".

He did say that knowledge of the lore was necessary though.

Close enough does not mean it is not. It could be something that just acts like a key, and please remember that Kerrash said that "it will unlock"...
So not a key in it's common meaning, but something similar.

If, for example, it is a kind of FSD that takes us in new places, for me it acts like a key.

EDIT: BTW the SHAPE makes my mind go again to the three pronged structure as well... and the Phage...

Sigh. So here we go again, another Kerrash-like hint that may not be a hint from someone who may have heard something from FD and who may or may not have the OK from them to pass a hint along. And for all we know the person he heard it from at FD may not even be involved or know what the UA storyline is all about, and talking out of his or her rear end. I am really getting tired of third-hand "hints" from people who aren't FD employees outside of the game. If Murp had not posted this here, we might not even have come across it. What is the point of that as a hint? How is that going to help anyone in the game who may not be on Reddit or following this thread who has a UA?

Edit: We figure out what it is and they unlock a permitted system or sector. Ta-da!

yes it's possible.
But how are we supposed to let them know we discovered what is it? With a post on galnet? Shouting?! ;)
There must be an easy in game solution instead.

Clavain: I couldn't agree more. In the end it doesn't help us but keeps us from moving forward 'cause now we'll start overthinking about its shape, when for all we know he probably just meant it was Thargoid.

When it unlocks it'll probably set a variable to true and they'll receive a message "THEY FINALLY UNLOCKED IT".

EDIT: Also sorry if I've been spreading misinformation. This is what I mean when I say this is a really bad format for this kind of discussion, if you miss something everything gets very confusing very fast.

And Reddit is different from that how exactly?

Aye but that would trigger an "attack" event and I'd then definitely expect the chatter to stop, and the "mission" to halt.

[Other Words, many well-reasoned, some in blue for that added content "Pop!"]

If anyone's seen or has evidence of the UA falling of on it's own and nothing happening it'd be great to rule the above out.

I was thinking of the 'Listen To Them' hint as slyly meaning the convoy crews a while back but I suppose I kinda let it slide with the lack of additional chatter-content to that on the Wiki. Thanks for the reminder nudge here.
Observing the UA Convoy as a set-piece scene, assuming a result, is the only current option I can think* of that does not risk a dose of handwavium poisoning.
Such a 'scene' would be as in-game as you can get, really, if a little on the passive and blind-luck side, admittedly.
Plus, should somebody willing to let the convoy scene play out be of a mind to, they could possibly also get another observation of an Unknown Artefact expiring. For what that's worth.

*Well, I'm calling it thinking.

Having threads would be nice. Allows discussions to go off on sidetracks without interrupting the original thread (in theory). Personally, I wont go near Reddit, its just too full of malarkey

If FD would just set up a "Science" section in near the Explorers section, I would be more than happy. Being forced to read through pages of stuff that I consider guff (in the politest possible way) is hugely annoying. A thread for Audio, a thread for hunting, a thread for history etc would be far preferable

That can all be done here - anyone can create the threads themselves. There are existing audio threads for example (most of which I also consider guff, in the politest possible way). ;-)

maybe another clue from the guy who was with frontier:
"Just try to remember the way, how the Thargoids got humiliated by mankind."

we need expert that know everything about elite world history

I'm thinking more the natural progression of the "mission" as created by Frontier....

Convoy carries hatch eating cargo, crew is talking about nothing but the UA.

They say...

"Transport checking in, status nominal, mission is still go" <= They are aware of their mission, they explicitly mention the "go" or stop state of the mission

"This mission succeeds, I guess we're all looking at promotions. Stay sharp. Transport out." <= The mission is important to the crew, stay sharp, BE AWARE

UA drops out of it's own accord, so what do they then say or do?

Frontier have created this event/scenario, it's scripted to some degree. I'm just wondering if the only "simple thing" we haven't done is let the scenario actually play out fully as an observer. ie weve been too focused on the UA all this time.

it drops...

"Oh crap the THARGOID PROBE fell out!"

I just find it hard to believe the crew who've talked of nothing but the probe DO NOT react to it being lost. Yes it's possible but by all rights they SHOULD, it should definitely be communicated to the rest of the convoy. And if it doesn't that's not because it's an "out there" theory, it's because the mission progression hasn't been scripted properly. (which unfortunately is quite possible)

Or if we want to theorise further...

UA falls out... 6 minutes later UA expires in front of the convoy, do they notice, they should! What is their reaction? It should really be something, I mean it's all they've been talking about, those promotions they were discussing are now out of the window. The VERY IMPORTANT mission is now a failure, the crew are in for a bollocking..

"WE'VE LOST THE ARTEFACT, HUDSON/SIRIUS CORP IS NOT GOING TO BE PLEASED"

or

"REPORT THE LOSS TO &##SystemName IMMEDIATELY"

i'm thinking it's a solution that seems to meet all the criteria of the hints weve had, it's simple and you'd be surprised it hadn't been found yet. It Frontier had came out and said that's the solution you'd be like, I can't believe we didn't get that. =(

The trouble of course the UAs are so rare that it's very difficult to resist the urge to grab it asap.

Ratking: I checked Wishblend's videos I can't see this having occurred on her Twitch as you suggested, I've pm'd her.

If anyone's seen or has evidence of the UA falling of on it's own and nothing happening it'd be great to rule the above out.

I had it, but I didn't highlight it as it has been deleted of the twitch recordings.

So, if it's got to do with ingame lore and history, my vote is to go around azleach and Antares, but that's been done a lot already. (see my last post on wanting my own UA)though.

But if it's out of game lore (eg books and stuff), then I tap out, because I don't 'do that '. I play games and I'm here playing the game (or at least, wish it could be), and if the answer is tied in with something not in the game, then that's a poor game design choice. I'm sure it might do wonders for the story and enrichment, but if you don't couple that with the game mechanics in a way that makes an answer achievable in the game, well, that's just not fun.

From here, with shape and history in mind, three prong phage -like thing, azleach and Antares(and maybe soontill?)

Oh BTW. I won't be joining you if this moves to reddit. Don't really need yet another place to read things

That "doubler" was done a while back and it's not ideal really for specific analysis, but it was fine for what I was trying to show... That some parts of the audio *may be* rendered client-side and well that should be taken into account with any analysis. :(

Am interested to know what you make of it, even if your thoughts are just the same as mine. It's just as far as I'm aware it's only me that's compared two recordings of one UA, and it would be really nice just to get some confirmation.

Can I just point this out, I think it's gotten lost.

This seems to indicate the purrs are NOT client-side, or at least they are the same for CMDRs (albeit with a bit of variation).

In the above example CMDRs do in fact see the same purrs but there is (in this case) about a 5 second offset.

I originally transcribed the low/highs for each video into a spreadsheet and could not see any correlation, what complicated listening by ear was that purrs are missing for one CMDR and audible to another, hence a transcription of LHLHHH will look completely different to LLHLLHLHH, but seeing it visually makes it clear.

The honks however seem to be inverted. *shrugs*

Cheers for doing that Popov. :)

Hi commanders. Couple things.

Can someone with an Elite / Founder rating pick up & abandon a few missions for transporting SAP 8 containers please. I'm willing to pay for them if that's an issue, name your price. I would like to do a couple of tests to clear up things in the wiki. Please send me a PM if you're in & we can discuss the details.

The more we get the better, with a minimum of 4, ideal 8, max 12 pieces.

Also, for a different test, if someone is willing to help me out with finding Hafnium, I would really appreciate it. I'm looking for at least 4 of those as well.

On a different note, can anyone confirm the maximum number of UAs in the same instance? From the Wiki I can see there was 2, and I faintly remember reading 3 a few hundred pages before. Anyone with better memory? Witness account? Or dare I ask, video?

Thanks in advance!
Rau

In General Discussion ? You must be joking. It would either disappear off Page 1 in a flurry of ranting threads, or would be merged back into this one.
