This kinda got ninja'd by MB, but I'll post anyway.
Hmm, to me this sounds like there is nothing to trigger and find out. The UA is just something that we could guess correctly and will learn later when something else happens as continuation to the story. (Thargoids attack)
I hope that's not, what he meant.
Just a word of both caution, and encouragement: towards the end of thread 1 we were despondent that the UA had resisted all forms of analysis; then an earlier idea about the morse gained traction and was proven.
Then toward the end of thread 2, despondency ensued again because nothing new was found and there weren't enough UAs to go around for testing. Then an XBox player discovered free-floating UAs, and now they're being picked up reasonably regularly.
We must not underestimate these 'discoveries' - and must maintain our positivity as much as possible. If there's something else to discover there's every chance we will, so long as we keep at it. I'd like to see the Pleiades scoured as much as possible for weird things. Also I echo Wishblend et al: remember the Morse when drawing the Thargoid link - there's either a human influence in the UA, or it's alien, but meant specifically for humans - those are the only real options. There's still potentially more than a whiff of a conspiracy about this whole thing, either human-driven or not; which could lead to quite an interesting set of future stories.
We now pretty much know that even if we don't reach the full conclusion of the UA mystery in its current form, something will likely happen to effect the next part of the mystery. It would be great to do it before then, of course, but if we don't, at least we know there's more to look forward to, and the Canonn (and other player groupings) will hopefully have a long future.
The fact that MB himself acknowledges that this is the kind of thing he wants more of in the game, also, is in line with what a lot of us have been saying. The thing is, if you're gonna do it, it has to be done right, and the mention of future tools etc is an acknowledgement that the current universe they have is not cut out for it. But they're making, or more likely already QAing, the tools - which will hopefully mean we will get what we want

. Some of the developing stories on Galnet are enticing (not least SS1 disappearance), plus this UA story, so I think there'll be quite a few rabbit holes down which we will all be able to go
