UA Mystery Thread 3: The Canonn

I just found a water world with an ammonia atmosphere. Don't think I've seen that before. It's got water world with a CO2 atmosphere as a moon. Synuefai YE-X d2-16.
Water world + ammonia must be some sort of Thargoid-whale hybrid paradise, right?

I have seen this before - recently on my travels in fact; and I frowned a bit after trying numerous times to splash the Asp down :(

With these things lying around, there's plenty of places for said alien mammals to have settled!

If the 'thing' we're looking for is as difficult to find as the voyagers, then I'm not interested in looking for it. The truth is that Panzertard found V2 because he had clear instructions on exactly where to look, then spent two hours flying around semi randomly, with determination and persistence, admirable patience and a fair amount of applied logic. The second part we can do, at a push, but its not what I'd refer to as exhilerating gameplay. And we're missing the first part entirely, in fact, we don't even know if there is a 'thing' at all.

What worries me about the dev update is that FD might have misinterpreted what it is that is driving these threads. To be clear, in case you're reading, it is not the act of flying around semi randomly for hours on end looking for a rare object which we find fun. It is the possibility of working something out using logic and intelligence.

The grinding part is no fun at all. (Much) Less of the former and more of the latter. Please.

This. I spent an afternoon and evening in the same area that P found Voyager 2 just the day before, without finding anything. If things are going to be just floating around in space that are key to storyline, there needs to be a better and more engaging way to find them than the 1000ls detection distance.

So I have tried to read back to see what exactly is going on since the MB appearances, and I am still confused. Is there anything still to find in-game that is UA-related right now? Or do we have to wait for 1.4, 1.5 or even Horizons (which I am still not sure I am getting, so it will suck if the main part of the UA story is in that only)?

That's exactly where MB want's you and us all to be - not sure in anything :)

My understanding is that there is something else - but absolutely no clue as to what, or how 'big'.

It could be a fluffy bunny that you'll only pick up when 10ls away. It could be an entire system where one of the planets has 'so long and thanks for all the fish' written on it.

I think the intention is for 1.4 to see an evolution, though. Or it could be 2.4, who knows; but it's going to happen soon(tm).

Edit:

As a leisurely player, though, I'm genuinely quite intrigued.

Looks like I missed the MB tour of this thread :(

I just really, really, really hope these new mechanics are a bit more interactive and user-paced than the current "access point" to this stuff (finding a UA), churning SS after SS and hoping the RNG lucks out on you, with no indication that you're even looking in the right spot. I've ditched scouring HR 1185 after spending half a week of my available gametime staring at a nav panel in favour of going back to Powerplay.

I was there for two days and after seeing literally no SSS, I went back to populated space. Searching for free floating UAs and hoping that RNJeezus favors you that day is not fun, it's just boring. Good luck to the rest of you that power through that dredge of a wait.

Sounds like they have interesting plans. Personally I didn't see much point in a moving station unless I could actually watch it jump or arrive.

...a meeting place, neutral ground where the powers could meet and work out their differences peacefully.
...the last hope for a galaxy without war...

B5. A meeting place between us and the Thargoids?

Was on the first thread (was it this we were close to?) with UA tests

It was selling one at Nimoy wasn't it......:D I have no idea but I am hoping that's the case as I had my heart set on that one!

Either way over the moon to hear from you again and to give us encouragement Mr Brookes.......the FD gods do indeed smile upon The Canonn and all it's brethren, or something like that anyway ;)

Can't wait to see where we are off to next.

Or simply selling it. By putting it on the black market, a product wouldn't merely sit there. Somebody *wants* the artefacts. So, perhaps where to sell it was less important than simply getting the artefacts onto the black market. Eventually, the *right* person gets their hands on one by virtue of trading hands numerous times.

The only tip I can give you if you are doing this, bring a scanner and use the time to scan the objects. If you somewhat like exploration, that takes a bit of the edge of. Also, if you're in a combat ship, those pirate SSSes are a welcome break.

The only thing the dev update said about UAs is that "the mystery for these is about to get deeper." How do we intimate that means it had nothing to do with Halsey?

They said that storyline has stopped and will get going again in the future. Probably once their an actual ship to find.

Whilst both the empire and UA were specifically called out as currently on going storylines.

Guys and Gals, on my travels. I managed to pick up a few things as you do.
One of these things was a coms stick with some very high level encryption. But thanks to a few contacts. I have managed to decipher the message.
Stay safe commanders.

XO3: We have also been monitoring coms chatter for last few months.
Seems various channels have been buzzing with regards to project ******* (Unable to decipher)
XOA: Anything I need to take care of?
XO3: No, my team will deal with it. A few CMDR’s might need removing.
XOA: Well keep it quiet.
XO3: Protocols with be maintain. Do not worry.
XO2: Has Alpha 1 mentioned anything?
XO3: Not really. Alpha 1 is happy with the way things are going.
Alpha 2 and his team have been busy monitoring the coms.
XOA: Ok, we will talk in 8 hsdr (Unable to decipher). I will be at P*4hadeg (Unable to decipher)
XO3: Good hunting gentlemen, I hope Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 are right about all this.
XOA: They are.

5hr scanning SSS type 9 with no luck in one of the confirmed system. In one, I found 6 type 9 guarded by 2 conda. Funny how those 6 type 9 had less total cargo on board than what a single combat fitted python can carry.

Don't have much more time to waste looking for the UA before going deeper in the galaxy looking for clue. Willing to buy one (not stolen) out of someone. Interested please PM me.
Actually, if you are going deeper and still willing to jump into SSSes, that would be great, since it is only a theory that they are in the Pleiades. Finding them out there would quickly show that perhaps 'certain regions' means outside the populated bubble.

Oh, and I'm putting my money where my mouth is. Currently jumping to California Nebula in a combat python. Only 55 jumps more to go. ;)

In the end MB's posts raise more questions than answers. If he told us "ok guys, there is nothing more to crack in the audio", that would help us tremendously, 'cause at least we would focus on other methods, but no, we're still stuck with no hint to help us.

-- update --

Yeah we triggered something, but we don't know what got triggered and what triggered the thing we don't know got triggered. Damn.

OK, I'll give you the Hint you're looking for ;)

"ok guys, there is nothing more to crack in the audio".

The only thing that still needs some attention is the Purrs, because it's the only dynamic (or random?) sounds still remaining, apart from the chittering morse.
That's why I'm waiting for the MASS test to be performed soon. The Purrs are the only other sound that changes, like the chittering morse.

ABOUT THE UA SOUNDS SOMEONE EXTRACTED FROM GAME FILES:

I've listened to all of them just for SCIENCE, and I can assure you that they do not reveal or spoil anything we already know.
They are 100 yes, but all the Alphabet sounds are duplicated two times, so they are 67 single audio files (the duplicates are exactly the same)
There are just all the sounds that we already know: 2 Howls, some different Purrs (5 or 6), the VID8 background sound, and some in between noises we already know (11), then all the chittering morse alphabet.

Now that a lot of time have passed since we've found the morse code, and Jmanis did his awesome work in "cutting" all the letters and numbers for us to study, I can provide, to anyone that will ask me, the complete morse chittering alphabet/numbers, coming directly from the game files.
What I can say is that, IMHO, it is not cheating, as we found the morse and cut the alphabet long time ago.

I've personally listened to all the chittering morse audio files, that were just randomly numbered, and decoded them one by one, to form all the alphabet + numbers.
Obviously they are much more clear and polished then the previous ones Jmanis made long time ago, with the hugest effort of all this mega thread, so they could be really useful in our future sound research.

In part you've already triggered the next phase and that's some of what is coming. There's other aspects that haven't been found yet, so these will come in foreground a bit more.

Michael

Aha, Thanks MB.
Oh dear, sounds like we've been put back by the 1000ls discovery range.
But then again, in the next versions we should be able to find the things we haven't discovered yet.

Is there anything still to find in-game that is UA-related right now?

Obviously there is. It's just pretty darn hard to find them, especially if it's a beacon in space.
