DDF and their "god-like powers"

Funny, when I log on to these forums, I see Design Decision Forum. :)

View attachment 57437

That said (and shown), I've always treated it as Design Discussion Forum, as I never had any illusions other than that FDEV calls the shots.

Pretty much. Even called the decision forums, its always worth remember who makes the decisions.

Like in the Discworld novels, where it said: Ankh Morpork was a democracy. One man, one vote. The Patrician was the man, he had the vote. :D

Yeah, got to agree there. :( I wish I could have made as solid a contribution as your good self - I often read your posts and thought "wow, amazing, how can anyone come up with that!". :D ;)

Differences of opinion on where the game ended up, decisions that were made, shouldn't matter - both Cosmos and I contributed from the heart throughout the process until, at the result of the process, it was clear that all of us had, for the most part, wasted an awful lot of breath.

ah jabokai, isn't it great to reassure oneself of such mutual feelings, fabulous!

my comment was not aimed at what you obviously consider your valuable contribution to the various ddf topics. i let others judge, and as in our joint effort, FDEV have done that.

i don't care for differences in opinion. i do however not at all like the tone of your talk. nor think it very clever as i rarely observe a heartfelt positive or even constructive thought. so from time to time we clash heads...

\_(ツ)_/¯

ps. obviously happy to be stand corrected and looking forward to much positive & constructive posting coming through.

Don't know what you're looking for. Even in this thread I suggested a simple (although pretty imperfect) way FD could address this issue, as evidence of constructive thought. Perhaps you simply disagree with it, or have it in your head that you have to dislike anything I say, because you don't like my tone, and dismissed it without it even entering your consciousness at all. :p

"To be fair, If I were them, it's easier to give a refund. I don't want any more money back from them but people might. Maybe they could offer a lifetime free in game goods voucher, in lieu of god powers/refund - so they could get all the paint jobs for free - for example."

Also, I have posted loads of positive things where I genuinely feel them. I've commented on the awesome sound, the graphics, the amazing VR experience, and feat of generating the entire galaxy loads of times. Of course that usually prefaces a complaint about the lack of depth and features from the DDA but hey, I'm just not that positive a person! :D

Whilst Kerrash has enjoyed some extra privileges through FD (which is hardly surprising given he's a nice chap) your comment is a little unfair.

You have to remember that moderators are not FDEV employees.

It seemed rather accurate to me. And whos to say who is a nice chap based upon posting history on this forum? However, when it comes to having extra privileges with Frontier that clearly comes down to sucking up - for when was the last time anyone critical of FD ever received commendation? I can only imagine what it must be like to work there.

I do notice throughout life that those who do kiss, well you know, do seem to get a head. That be what may, I just can't do it and ultimately those that continue ignore the negative, almost pretending its not there, do come across somewhat as laughable in the long term.

You and I have had our fair share of exchanges but hopefully we can agree that both of us express ourselves in an honest way. ;) And nor do we attempt to carry favour by flattering those around us. If people are doing good I'll tell them and if not I'll also tell them.

I don't believe the DDF failed, I feel that we failed it :(

OMG.. you're really excelling yourself here. Msny of us poured our hearts into it but since you are so close to frontier perhaps you could remind them of the commitment they made, Braben, and those near god like powers. Its something we paid for, or did we fail it back then when we funded the project?

You might like to take the rose tinted glasses off bro in case they aren't permanently attached to your head.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
As someone who communicates with Mr. Kerrash almost daily I can say without reservation that he *is* a 'nice chap.'

Also whatever rapport he has with FD is based on mutual respect and the aforementioned 'nice chap' attribute, and not brown nosing.

I've just read through this discourse... some interesting points on both sides really.

I didn't pour as much effort into the DDF as I know most of the other commentators in this thread did, I'm certainly not as eloquent or wordy in response as a lot of the commentary on the historical proposals.

I still play the game, have done since launch, rarely play in open, and still enjoy bumbling around doing "stuff". I still don't know what these proposed god-like powers would have been/should be, but it would be nice to have some comment from FD so we can put this to bed at least.

I wagged my tail rather than turning up my nose when the first CG system proposal was happening; I liked how it would be a new hub for future expansion etc. HIP 101110 got renamed to New Yembo, and I got my name on the station with the top three CG contributors. We then had the station renamed to Unity, and it hasn't developed from there since. It still has no Bulletin Board, Ship Outfitting or Shipyard and as a result is incredibly hard to improve standing with a faction to the point where we might get a natural expansion... In my mind it sums up a lot of what was committed to, and is a bit like my DIY efforts at home... Started, not finished, might be eventually. If I say I'll do something, there's no need to remind me every six months!

FD - do be dears and give us some kind of update please :)

Zeb

I'm angry with Frontier, as many are, and I don't take kindly to people who mis-represent history with factual inaccuracies and defend and excuse their poor behaviour towards those who backed and helped get the project funded but no I'm not hear to berate one person. I'd simply like Braben to honour his commitment or reach out and resolve the situation rather than doing sweet nothing.

I won't hold my breath.

don't tell me ^^

I was attempting to change the course of the tête-a-tete to something less personal, with a little humour. *sigh*

I'm equally critical of my own endeavours, be it at work, or projects at home - I'd be the first to point out the flaws in something I've made, even when someone compliments it! :D Not a perfectionist as I'm too lazy for that, but I am critical. :)

OMG, brown nosing :D Kerrash has really done much for both FD and the Elite community, he seems like a good guy :) Btw, ARK is really taking some time of me, taming Dinosaurs and building bases of stone and wood seems to have struck a Premordial instinct in me. When can we tame Thargoids and build bases in E.D :D Its good to take some time of and come back later. Il be back in the cockpit soon enough :)

Its Called the DDF .Design Discussion Forum not The PAIWBIF or Propose it and it will be implamented forum.

Plus what near good like powers do you think Frontier owe for the extra you paid,Could you elaborate

I keep having to point this out. It was meant to be a Design DECISION forum. Perhaps my English isn't as good as it should be but the meaning of decision and discussion are not quite the same.

no worries. mainly i am very lazy and (geing german) have no sense of humour at all.

and just about smart enough to get by without too many noticing (not that hard given your average human) and pulling in a sufficiently adequate performance :p

though i do have a slightly overburdening sense of justice and loyalty.

not noticed that i have any god-like-powers yet. but that might change in the future ^^

seriously :D

Hey this is NOT Diablo III at the pony level!

People just need to realize the decisions were FDevs and not the backers. You acted as a focus group for them...and provided some solid input and a few ideas they implemented because they were better.

The devs did state that the issues discussed might or might not ever make the game, were not promises of features, and that they should be considered non-existent until they did show up.

Your comment is unfair.

I and some of the others did a tremendous job devoting a large portion of our own personal time helping FD flesh out their ideas to make a better game. That in itself speaks volumes about the commitment we gave. Sure, there were times when we locked horns in dispute over a point that may have become heated, but that's the nature of being asked to comment about something everyone was personally invested in.

As time went on it was obvious FD were busy - posts would remain up for months, FD failed to comment; even now Sandro's thread of "i'll be back" is how old ?! However, how long does it take to put a post up to say hello ? To devote a few minutes to the DDF to say anything ?

No, the DDF was a great idea and it went well until the end ..

I think some people considered the arguments as too heated. Which I find ironic. The people I love the most on these here forums are the people I argued (and still argue) with the most as well.

Disagreement, even heated, isn't necessarily a bad thing.

None of which excuses making a promise intended to suck people into a particular pledge level, and then not delivering on that promise.

Which is why everytime I feel the urge to get one of those new Lifetime Season Passes, with no content specified for each season or how many seasons there will be (let alone an outline of the additional content that will be in Horizons), I come looking for one of these threads to remind myself why I should/will never buy one. Not a DDF member, came in at Beta, but given the track record I won't be trusting FD with anymore money until I see a finished "season" on the market, and get reliable hands-on reviews of it and its content.

Here's the thing... despite my grievances with FD, even about god-like powers and the like and the occasional tiff. I think they can actually be trusted on the whole to deliver. Now the details might not always be there (ship naming, ship's crew, tier 2 npcs) but overall they've done their best.

Whilst I do regret joining the DDF (not because of value for money, just because I got to see how the process goes and I got too close to the project for my own good) I don't regret my pledge or the money I gave to get the game off the ground. OVERALL I'm very happy with the game, it does a great job and keeps getting better.

My advice would definitely be to take the lifetime pass. If you're enjoying the game now. And it will get better with each expansion.
