So you're trying to tell me that Powerplay was intended to be dominated by people unwilling to interact with other player that are trying to prevent them from spreading. That is not how I percioeved the idea of powerplay

at least the power with less people have a chance if they are better pilots; but, as it is now, they stand no chance because they are simply outnumbered, and most of those people are doing it in SOLO mode so you don't even get a chance to stop them at all.


You are approaching wisdom. PowerPlay was specifically designed not as a "pilot confrontation" thing - it is a game more like Monopoly. It is about the numbers - it is about countering other players with the same mechanisms as they have - undermining and fortifying. How you perceived the idea of PowerPlay is neither the fault of the devs nor players. If you'd read the PowerPlay materials you'd know this.

You want PowerPlay to be some kind of "mano-a-mano" space war and it isn't. War has not broken out. PowerPlay is politics, not war.
 
Wrong originally SOLO mode was supposed to be just you, no one else... you were not supposed to be a part of the larger community playing together it was supposed to be just you OFFLINE... Get your facts straight.

I suggest you look again. ED was always the 3 ONLINE modes as they are now!

there was a 4th mode requested by some of the playerbase... offline. This would have been separate from the 3 online modes and would not have been allowed to connect to the 3 online modes. The hope was the player in offline would have the option to connect to the servers from time to time to updated their galaxy to include some of the stuff from the live game. However at the last min after battleing it for some time the devs decided it was unworkable.

but this is SEPARATE from the 3 main modes.

Well, that's what I meant about "the environment as opponent." The fight is between the Old Man and the Marlin; the environment is the sea that the old man thought he was master of - the sea is the connector between the man & the marlin.

Yes and Hitek is suggesting that FD extort players into open. I'm thinking that we are having a failure to communicate here, because I don't think we really disagree.

I've played both hunter and hunted - it's the best way to understand how stuff works.

Admittedly my advice hasn't always saved me, as I've found out the hard way! But for the best part it sees me and my cargo through safely.

Out of curiosity, how have your own experiences with pirating / evasion worked out?


Yeah... just now.. managed to get enough funds for a full load in my t-7 left port did first jump.. as I started the second jump.. as it started to count down. from 4 to 1... suddenly interdicted.. I can't stop the countdown or do anything my ship is locked into the jump..

I jump into the new system and it pulls the interdicting python with me... slams me into reg space next to the sun, overheats me so no stealth mode.. shields are ripped through... and before my FSD can cool down the python utterly destroys me..


now 1 mil in the hole with half my cargo hold modules. and 1,000 credits to start rebuilding..

couldn't evade.. couldn't do crap

Was it an NPC? There looks like there's a fix coming to address that...

Actually, it says there that it should be previously (i.e. currently) blocking the interdiction during the countdown, so might be worth submitting a ticket?

That's harsh - can dump a hold full of some palladium your way if you want..

Mouse should submit a ticket - it is a bug, and if not it should be a bug and it's annoying like hell.

Sorry Mouse to hear your T-7 got destroyed by that bug. That bug got introduced with 1.3. I have stopped counting how often that happened to me in my Anaconda (not the get killed part, the pulling NPCs to the next system and getting interdicted while in the countdown).

As I said it's highly annoying. I started to wait for the NPC pirates to interdict me as charging the HC jump is simply to dangerous if there is a potential NPC pirate around. If I get that announcement chatter in the coms I will wait, kill the pirate and then jump. Flying a T-7 is going to hurt, because the NPCs now chain interdict if you manage to get away (unless you jump to the next system - don't know if your T-7 can survive the charge time)

NPC interdictions and interaction is a big pile of bugs in 1.3. Really annoying.

Time and date of issue: 9 Sept 2015 at about 0336 Central time
Commander name: Baigs
Description: Was en-route from Kured to LFT 37 on return trip with full load of cargo 216 in a T-7. It is a 4 jump run. On jump to system just before LFT 37 suddenly interdicted as the counter counts down. I cannot cancel jump, try to evade, nothing computer has control. Jumped into system, immediate emergency stop next to star and interdiction. FSD locked out on cooldown, Temperature overheating at 120.. hull damaged from emergency stop, systems incurring damage from excessive heat. Within less than 10 seconds.. shields gone and ship destroyed by the NPC python pirate that initiated the interdiction. With full loss of ship and cargo.

Had to strip ship in order to avoid being forced to start in starter Sidewinder, with 1000 credits to start rebuilding, 1 million in debt .. this was beyond costly.
 
Thank you for the offers, but it was my stupid fault to try a 4 jump run without making sure i had the funds to cover the ship incase something happened. *redacted on advice*

People are saying the entry level reward for Hutton is now 400k - do you have time to get into that (if you're not already)? Last day today..

if that is a good run mate you may want to edit your post.. otherwise the route will be swamped and it will collapse (I may have to check it out myself now ;) :p

It is a low money trade but a way to build up a little bit of funds, I will edit it though

Over 100 LY away and from what I heard a T-7 won't fit.. it is too big.

To me, Solo/Private vs Open biggest issue is Powerplay.

Merit grinders are especially detrimental, causing very large powers like ALD to become practically insurmountable. (ie. Opposing any new ALD expansion) and cause smaller powers pick up and unable to lose bad systems. (ie. Asling and Panganau)

To at least bypass this problem I think Powerplay should be limited in solo/private by allowing you to still gain merits for completing Powerplay tasks, but solo players cannot in any way influence powerplay results. (merits earned do not contribute to fortification, undermining, expansion, ect.)

To me this seems like a fair trade off.
