Ship Builds & Load Outs My new Python

So....commanders....how do you actually fly the python?

Did quite a bit of RES BH recently, but I'm having problems with smaller ships. I had wings of 3 eagles/adders eating up half my shields, just because it took me forever to line them up, while they constantly kept me under fire.
The best solution i could find was 3-4 pips to engines, pitch up, while pushing down with vertical thrusters. This puts a little distance between us, but also puts the target in front of me and gives me a short window to unload into it's face. Switched from a vulture, so I kinda got spoiled with that awesome handling.

I really don't want to start using turrets, because i find them no fun. Currently I'm running 3 x class 3 (G) beam lasers + 2 x class 2 (G) multi-cannons. Only got B6 thrusters, but I don't think fitting A6 will make that much of a difference.
All suggestions are welcome.

I just was gonna say get some beam turrets, they are insanely powerful in PvE (esp. in CZ) on a Python. It's agile enough to keep them on target pretty much all the time and they turrets are still powerful enough to get rid of big shields. Two on the C3 on top, they have a very good coverage of the area around you and they fire for 30+ seconds with 4 pips.

Having said that, with gimballed weapons I find it quite effective to speed in the blue zone, FA-Off 180° turn and keep moving backwards. I only see high ranked NPC avoid this tactic, but it's generally enough to strip the shields of one. If he boosts away after losing shields (which they usually do) I do not chase, I focus on the next who is hovering 500m. Forcing them to maneuver by stripping their shields basically, at that time they don't shoot at me.

Congrats to the OP!

It's a nice feeling to get the ship you really want.

I was saving for a Python as an armed trading vessel but ended up buying the FDL instead as I haven't done any trading in ages.

The FDL is a beast but very much a combat ship which suits my play style right now

A Python is still my long term goal and I hope to join you in the pooper scooper club (or whatever) - let's hope you rename that.

In the meantime - enjoy your new purchase :)

For smaller targets a lot of FA off, if they are circling you boost away and fly backwards to get them in front of you.

Yeah, "Boom&Zoom" is probably the most efficient tactic - take them head on and boost past them, turn and repeat. The Python also has very decent vertical thrusters and the lateral ones can help you outflank the enemy too (in comparison, Clipper was very awkward for me with it's weak vertical thrust, especially at slower speeds). If you want to do some closer dog-fighting, like someone already suggested, you turn flight assist off and fly in reverse - you can turn FA back on once you face the target again.

I have no idea but now I want to find out.

It 1shots T-7s, which is fun, only ran it for testing, module damage is guaranteed, and god forbid you miss a shot.

3 Class 3 PA are too much also. I used to run 2 Large PA and a gimballed Burst (for small targets) with medium cannon backup (mostly decorational) for Assassinations, heat was managable. Previous to that I tested 5 PAs and 3 Large PAs with cannon...far from ideal setups IMHO.

Also flew 3 fixed Beams with cannon, which is much more effective than a PA build for CZs.

The most efficient Python build is 2 Large cannon with Lasers of your choice (I'd pick beams), it's the best for CZs and RES. My current Python build is my multi-role fitted for PP (so has some cargo space), having a large burst turret means that I could target a small ship while focussing my Hammers on a bigger target; it's extremely cool to kill 2 ships at the same time :)

To all those looking at 150 million or so before buying a Python. If you have 70 mill +, buy a Python and use it to make money for upgrades. You won’t regret it. Just get it now and the grind will go faster.

An A7 power plant is extremely expensive but you don’t really need one until you completely max out the Python anyway. A class 6 or even class 5 power plant is more than enough for a combat Python in PvE. The Python is the best tool to make money for the Python.

I actually bought my Python with only about 70 mill in the bank (used the 15% discount) and traded and bounty hunted in it to afford the upgraded. My first Python load out was this. Just because it takes a Class 7 does mean you need one yet.

Note the Class 5 powerplant and class 6 distributor and Class 4 shield. Saves weight and cost and could trade 276 tons a run. It still had enough fire power and shielding to deal with most conflicts and allowed decent bounty hunting.

Now I have this. And it’s a beast.

The Prismatic shields put me right on the edge of power management but it’s worth it.

Sir I concur!
70 mill and a3 shields on my trade python with 280 tns cargo.
now I got it maxed to my liking about 135 to 140 mill.
prismatic shields huh? Might have to consider this. :)

It certainly makes a difference. The Python is one of the few ships that has the excess power to mount a prismatic shield without dropping a class. If you use 4 boosters you can get an 855Mj shield out of it. Lots and lots of tanking :)

Interesting, 1 shots a T-7 :)
I’m getting a little bored with large bursts and medium multi cannons. So you suggest two large accelerators is enough for balance?
Out of curiosity, using all 5 mounts as PA’s, what kind of heat buildup did you get?

IIRC 1st salvo from 5PA took the ships heat up to just below module damage, and unless you let the ship cool completely (or only fire the medium PAs after 1st salvo) the 2nd salvo will give you module damage.

The 2Large PAs worked well, Pirate Lords would lose shields by the 2nd salvo (so 5s or so after engaging). I always got into position and then opened up with Alpha Strikes so not all that damage wouls be the PAs alone though. Mad weapons groupings though as you don't want to waste Heat and ammo for PA against small stuff; 1st: Burst and KWS, 2nd: Burst PA and KWS, 3rd: Burst and Cannon, 4th: PA and Cannon, 5th: ADS and FSD Interdictor

Thats a lot of weapons groupings. I'm gonna try a go with 5 PA's later just for fun. I expect a repair bill to pay.

Have fun, let me know if it can 1shot anything bigger than a T-7, as I never found anything bigger when I tested it...Maybe fit a AFMU, it should lower the cost of melted parts :)

Just a comment on your load out. By using a class 6 prismatic shield, your losing a valuable slot for a cargo rack. I've been using a class 5 prismatic shield (but have one more shield booster than you, instead of the KWS) and it's been mostly fine. I can cargo 192t compare to yours with 84t. If you want to make money trading, that would make a big difference for a small trade off, all IMHO.

Also, I only have a class 3 shield cell bank and It's good in most situations. If not, I run away. Those 2 class 6 SCBs are using valuable slots for cargo racks. Again, all IMHO :)

Oh, and here is mine, btw: http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/07...86g2f.Iw18eQ==.IwBj4ytUg===?bn=Laurent Python

I've been using it for over a month now and it does what I want, namely help with trading but also good at undermining and getting me out of troubles (well, most of the time :) )

I got my Python a while ago, but couldn't afford to outfit it properly, so I headed out into the Black in another ship.
The proceeds allowed me to upgrade it to mostly B grade, and buy that Imperial Clipper I spent so long grinding to rank up in Imp space for. Couldn't afford to upgrade anything on the Clipper, so I did some trading and missions in the Python and loved it.
Then I thought I'd upgrade my Clipper and take it for a spin. I earned some bounties for killing NPC pirates on the way to collect the Clipper, and went to collect them in the Clipper.
They were all outposts :(
I ended up selling the Clipper and A-grading the Python.
I'll buy another Clipper at some point, but with the new snazzy Vibrant paint job, I love "Siphon", the purple Python.
