Elite Dangerous data : is the game dying or growing ?

If you think Planetside 1 is still going you are sorely joking. It probably doesn't even have 1k active players and its free to play, as a fan service.

Everquest 1 is almost in the same boat, doesn't mean anything.

Everquest 2 for example got demolished by WoW and every other MMO - It's a shell of its former self.

I guess you could call them alive, people on life support are technically alive as well - doesn't mean its a good game or "in good condition"

Age of Conan is my personal favourite, I don't even think they patch that game much anymore since they gambled on TSW.

Their forum is still very active also from what I just checked.

So yeah.. they still patch it, still update it.

They are still going - you don't need to be top or have millions of members to be considered alive.

Even 1k active players is a lot tbh, more than enough... I know 3 friends IRL who play Planetside (independently, not together) so it's clearly still going, they are still getting a lot of enjoyment from it.

Well, personally after 15 years of waiting for Elite IV and 8 years of posting here on the forum I'm quite confident that David will want to keep the game going as long as possible.

To say it's his baby really isn't an understatement.

Some will stay, some will go and some will discover the game in the future.

That's the nature of most things.

I doubt you will enjoy the future if you are not enjoying it now. Also - I don't know of any promises of which you speak, perhaps you could link them?

All the above is alive and kicking - just because you don't like how they are going is irrelevant.
I login and play PS1 from time to time and EQ2. Always find people to team up with and play alongside.

Fact is, they are not dead and gone - even when people like yourself said they would be.

Everquest 1 has a live stream coming up in the next few days for an expansion, but lets not have actual facts stop you from saying it is dead.

The game is not dying , not by a longshot.

and no , elite is not a grinding machine but if you want to follow the elite hate bandwaggon go ahead , the game will do fine , and is doing fine.

I logged in after months and months away and the game is quite frankly still boring with nothing to do but trade and mine etc, once you've flown around a while grinding to get a new ship just to fly around more is the only thing left to do.

My mother is exactly like that, so is not happy unless she has something or someone to whine about.

It's funny how some of the names you see moaning, if you play a few online games, you'll see them doing the same elsewhere.

Not all of us Elite players need to use our imagination to have fun and I'm certain not all people that dislike Elite love Call of Duty lol - comments like these are as interesting to read as the doom predictions themselves.

I like the game.
I haven't consistently logged in to Steam since the end of July when I found that just adding the launcher to my toolbar was much handier. I play most days, just to varying degrees depending on other things that I do.
Players come and go, then come back...generally because of other distractions and that affects all games.
Just how things work but I don't think this game is in any serious trouble as it stands. There's still an awful lot yet to come.

If you want to see what a dead game is within a year of it's launch then look at Battlefield Hardline.
That turkey was never gonna fly.

Edit:
I went and looked when Steam was last aware I played the game and that was over a month ago.
Their stats are totally unreliable due to individual player actions and choices.
Just how it is.

I installed the game through Steam, but just run the launcher directly when I want to play Elite. It still logs me into Steam if I'm not logged in already and logs my game there accordingly.

I used to run Steam all the time but I have set to off when my PC starts and nerfed everything when I did as I don't use it anymore. I guess it's just the way I have mine set up.
I do know that for a month it showed the same date until I loaded it up to play a different game, I just felt like throwing knifes at people's heads for the lulz one day.
I really don't know what came over me.

The Christmas holidays and Horizons should amplify the sales. 825000 sales (PC/MAC/XB1) is not bad for a start. Although I thought that the XBox would bring hundreds of thousands of players

For anyone who doesn't know, if you own it on PC you also own it on MAC (and can download it from your account page if you ever want to).

Also it hasn't been released on xbox just yet has it? Still game preview until October?
