SteamVR and HTC Vive Support confirmed!!

Not sure. Someone else in the queue said it wasn't the final version. I'm in the queue again right now so I'll ask. I might have a wander over to the HTC stand after and find out for certain. I would think you're still going to get pixelation at that resolution and eye distance.

Cool, thanks for checking that out. Yeah I only raise my eyebrows at this as I saw a hands on review of the Rift CV1 and one of the things mentioned was that there was virtually no pixelation. I figured the Vive would be similar. Here's the review..

http://uploadvr.com/hands-on-with-the-oculus-rift-cv1/

And here's the relevant paragraph if you cant open it easily there SJT..

"" One of the things I did notice however was how much deeper the blacks felt, something that I think was absolutely crucial to the immersiveness factor. A number of the demos I tried had very dark scenes and they all looked great on the Rift. Additionally, the colors felt brighter and more vibrant. The resolution may or may not be better but the screen itself definitely felt different and improved. Oh – and there was absolutely no screen door that I could see. I really tried to focus on individual pixels and found it to be quite difficult."

and..

" Also – text legibility was vastly improved. UI elements in games were far more clear. Those worried about being able to have crisp displays with legible text need not worry any longer. " "

I didn't get around to visiting HTC unfortunately. I did have my second go however. I didn't really notice the pixelation this time around, perhaps because I was consciously looking for it the first time. I can definitely recommend the Vive. Even in this current form it gives a much better experience than the DK2. Unfortunately, I find I can't play ED for long with the DK2 as it's uncomfortable for me and I start to feel a little on the ill side after a while. With the Vive, I felt I could play on much, much longer. It was pretty comfortable and also felt lighter. I certainly felt no queasiness.

Thanks for your feedback!

colour me jealous :)

I play ED on DK2 for.......... lets say way longer than I should ;) and have never felt ill, so i have high hopes for VIVE/CV1.

CV1 is lighter again than VIVE devkit so i really cant wait to get my mits on one of them.... if ED supports both i will ahve a decision to make, but I will be buying a HMD which plays ED :)

I'm using my DK2 with headphones over it. I can tell this is not the best setup to have, it's harder to put and retreive the oculus, and the headphones want to go away when I heads up ! The CV1 will come with headphones and hidden mike what is a good idea. I Cannot wait to test the Vive and CV1. I cannot play ED without the DK2 anymore, even if his resolution is a bit low.

I used to get ill when wearing the DK2, but after getting a sim chair to mount my contollers to and passing the cables through the holes in the headrest, it stopped. I think neck strain from fighting the drag of the cables was actually the thing that did it. The DK2 is pretty heavy. I'm hoping the DK2 and Vive are light enough that this won't be a problem anymore.

I had a similar problem with TrackIR when I tried that. When using it, you have to set the headlook ratio to something more than 1:1 so when you look to the side you can still see your monitor screen. And that means you have to keep your head more still than usual to NOT cause the headtracking to trigger. That gave me a stiff neck and made me feel ill after playing for too long, even with a large deadzone.

This VR stuff is still super complicated though so it could be almost anything causing your issues.

That might be the problem I have. The cables are annoying as hell. I don't think it's anything to do with motion sickness. I've been thinking of getting a Playseat Air Force for a while and that's exactly what they had set up at EGX. I'll probably get one now. Yesterday's experience at EGX tempted me to try out the DK2 in CQC. I normally hate multiplayer but I had a great time.

I got the Playseat Air Force myself and I like it. It's not quite as high quality as I would have liked for the money but it's good enough. If you're a big guy you might want to pick up a couple sheets of metal at the hardware store to raise the joystick platforms up a bit, they're quite low. I didn't have to but just barely and I'm a pretty small dude.

I like everything else about it though! Can't wait to get my MFG Crosswind pedals. I'mma be 100% ready for the Vive and Horizons updates when they hit!

Im going to EGX Saturday and Sunday. How long did you have to queue for and how long did they give you in the vive?

It's still pixelated. That's a bit surprising. Its a dev version?

Honestly, version one of the Rift and Vive will still disappoint some in this regard. I figure it wont be gen 2 or even 3 until people are happy with the res. For me though any step up is a step forward. :)

thanks. so high end but at least it is a single card. I wonder if you will get to see it in an asteroid belt. also can you ask him if it is running on full bubble or if they have to cut down details to run in VR on the single card.

thanks

The thing im most excited try... In game SS x1.5 ... If it boosts the VIVE res the same way it does the DK2 we will have found the promised land! Four 980 ti s in SLI should just about handle it! ;)
