Real concerns - the future of Solo when everything is going multiplayer

For me the real question is: what would motivate anyone to grind up to own and outfit an Anaconda, the most powerful of ships (currently), for gazillions of credits; and then in a dicey combat situation jump into the most underpowered toy-ship that can be vaporized by about any other ship in two or three shots and go fight in that, while his expensive beast ship is left there to fend for itself?

I mean there is that gimmick of launching from the Anaconda in a little fighter, but for what reason? Maybe to chase the Easter Bunny, but surely not to fight another Cmdr in a ship that would actually threaten the Anaconda?

If the game so far is anything to go by, any tactical disadvantage you have in solo will be offset by the more predictable risk playing against NPCs gives.

There are already Strong Signal Sources in the game that I run from. A wing would probably defeat them, but alone I am wary of those high risk places. The OP would do the same no doubt.

Your joking right? Solo should always be the red headed step child because it has the least possibility for expansion. You cant program AI that are better than Humans.
and still u getting above ur head.. specially when u say that for other ppl play style and dont forget u and solo payed the same amount of money ...

There will be NPC crew or PC or a mix, FD ain't stupid you know. They actually said that looong time ago.

npc crew is more logical anyway like frontier:the first encounters had ;D

Unless I'm mistaken they said AI would pilot your main ship while you go out in your fighter. I didn't hear anything about fighters being AI controlled.

Well AI is banned technology in the Elite universe.

Which means they'll likely be NPCs?
From the newsletter:
Ship-Launched Fighters can be docked in your ship's hold to give you a far greater range of options to tackle any situation in which you find yourself. Deploy your fighter under AI control or take the stick yourself and fly into battle while your mothership lies in wait.
Debunked!

Totally agree OP.
It's been there since the start. The only competitions required you to play OPEN.
There is no love for group OR solo

Group gets the same love as open, as they're not really any different - just less people in a group (sans Mobius, which is 12,000 or so strong and growing the far I know). Solo tho... IDK about that, never bothered with it.

In the older games you could not fly without a minimum crew complement. I would like to bring something like this back. Buy your large ship and it an fly as sole pilot with onboard computer but not at full effiency. This then opens up huge potential for seeking out and training high level ai crew.... Not to mention the anaconda just feels silly when u are on a deserted massive bridge with all the staff points there but unmanned

Anaconda needs 8 crew according to lore

This was kind of what I was thinking - the idea of multi crew ships is fantastic, nobody should be able to 'best' a human gunner for example - but it would be great from a solo players point of view if you can pick and hire a AI NPC crew member that would be close - depending on how skilled.

Hopefully this would not be a difficult to implement that what it sounds.

Dont care much for the rest of the discussion, it is silly. If you click 'Solo' you select 'Open minus some stuff'. Its like ordering a pizza minus an ingredient, and then complaining you have less ingredients.

Except for the fact that NPC Wingmen and crew-members have been discussed in the DDF - that alone is enough to give players who prefer Solo a reasonable expectation of similar features to those being discussed. The "stuff" that is lacking from Solo in comparison to Open is simply other players....

I would like to see solo get NPC crewmen and NPC wings. Hopefully in Horizons?

I mean, I would like this in Open too tbh, you cant always have friends with you and it's nice to fly in a wing sometimes.

I think it would also make sense on those larger ships to require an NPC crew, it's not like it would change your flying at all - would just make the seats occupied and seem more believable and offer the option of slaving certain systems or controls to them if you desired (likely making you less combat effective).

God could you imagine having to grind them to Elite status too lol

The problem is that the OP mentioned solo as a mode. What he should have said, was solo in the sense of 'playing by myself, not with mates', no matter what mode they are in. And clearly FD are building stuff for the multiplayer folks, and not doing what is required for the player by himself. They already left out all the NPC wingman stuff when they did wings, and now they have left out the NPC crew in what they have disclosed about Horizons. Multiplayer wings and multiplayer crews are fine, and add significantly to the game. But we need NPC versions too.

I don't understand the concern in this thread. Really. You can do everything to pilot a ship yourself, why would you assign a NPC to do it when you could do it better?

And you can still let the AI pilot the condor you're carrying.

To me multicrew is about getting players together to have a laugh and chat over coms. When I'm occasionally in solo because I'm feeling anti social I'll just fly my ship alone. No disadvantage whatsoever.

All IMHO of course.

Ill remind you of that when we are looking for another gunner and your refusing to come on Mumble Smeg hehehe.
