The thing is, Star Citizen has no real marketing, the only places the company spends money on on marketing, are the Game Conferences and things as Merchandise, at the end of the day her job is not fundamental for the company if she does it well or wrong.
What CIG needs, is a PR team, because the communication is flawed when we talk about things like the way Roberts didn't help himself from going public on his reply to The Escapists.

Wow man what are you talking about?¿The only thing that CIG have at the top level and beyond is the marketing and their PR Propaganda Machine...We don't have a game atm and the playable part of alpha AkA AC let's just said that seems that not to many ppl. enjoying it at all(even the hardcore fans) and probably less then 10% even try to play it....So all this money that's been collected so far is been done on "FUGASI" or on the CR talks&promises which is just a pure MARKETING.Top level commercials&cut scenes that don't look a like as the current game play is the MARKETING and offcourse Shows ATV&10FTC are just again PURE MARKETING and the newest is cut game scenes(movies) with the top actors and top voice acting,well that's a kind of marketing 2....

Regarding the 'discussion' about the time/cost of the mo-cap, I do recall CR saying somewhere that he had been in the UK for three months doing it. But 2 days of every week is the weekend, so:

3 months = 90 days

90/7*5 = 64 days

At $100,000/day, that would give a cost of $6,400,000 + actors' fees

This of course depends on whether or not CIG pay for the studio at the weekends (in which case it would be $9,000,000 + actors' fees).

First of all, what's the importance of this? Second of all, guys, don't get caught up in pointless details like this. What does it matter whether only subscriber money is spent on marketing?

One thing I absolutely do not agree with is the criticism regarding the mere fact that they spent money on trailers and marketing. Of course they did, and I fully expect them to. It's part of getting the game "out there" to drum up support and excitement for it.

Did they spend too much time and effort on trailers and not enough on the game? Perhaps. That's what I'd like to find out eventually. And to know that, we just need to know how much of the cash on hand has been spent so far. Which is what CR is not willing to tell us, because it would "cause drama". And that statement has me concerned. If he were to say that 60% of the cash has been spent and 40% remain, great. But I fear it's quite a different story. But we don't know for sure yet.

Gah!! Is there some way of editting a controller config file in this game. I'd set up the axis to match Elite yesterday, but today the were back to SC defaults and I can't use those controls after playing Elite solid for 6-7 months! Thing is I have an old Saitek x35/36 combo and the axis'..er "slip" quite a bit. So when I select the control mappings in game to change it's really difficult to select the right axis (hard to explain) I'm pressing the control I want but another overrides it as my stick is too loose, basically I can't change it "in game" anymore. Wondering if there is a config file I can manually edit

Do you want to point out in my post were I said money? I am sure you can do it, you after all changed the subject to money. I am sure you have a reason for it. So please point to the part in my post were I was talking about money spent. Or is this just another diversion from the actual subject at hand?

Oh and I am still waiting for all those links proving your points that you seemed to have forgotten about. Like the random game development company you tried to link with CIG, or how Crytek stated they lost important people. Just to name a few.

Brian Chambers, studio chief on Crytek was working on as well, Ryse 2, as Crytek struggled financially and Ryse 2 ended up cancelled, CIG simply got the opportunity to hire some people from Crytek, some of them that formed the Germany studio, were employees laid off, others, employees who left for CIG.

Subscriber money, is spent on all the shows that are done, the jumppoint and the merchandise. Those do not use any backer money there.

CIG is not spending money to advertise the game side of Game Conferences, where they also reveal their trailers, etc... that IS my claim.

They were backed to make a video game. Which doesn't exist three years in.

Once a game exists, you can do marketing for it and nobody is criticizing that. This is actually how AAA publishers do it and they often spend more than the development budget itself on it. But first they create an actual game to sell.

You stated, and you now seem to have forgotten.

I'll let them decide how to develop their game, it's not up to me.

They do have talent, that is clear, on several areas of the tech of this game you can see pretty impressive stuff that is usually not done, from the way physics are being implemented, character models that actual have their own skeleton and physics, dynamic damage systems to make it as realistic as possible, as many others. Some of them are still early, others are more solid, if there is one thing that is clear, is that they are not going the easy way making the tech behind the game simplistic.

And that shows exactly for the delays, they could just rush something, avoid making new tech and just use what Cryengine already has to offer instead of rewrite whole tech levels of the engine like they are doing. If this was about just deliver something to the backers and not about doing it right, they wouldn't be going back in their code (causing delays) to make it right.

Cryengine has poor netcode (not because the people who created it didn't knew how, but because it's just hasn't been updated since older versions of the engine by Crytek), but who best to fix it than the ones WHO CREATED IT? (Cryket actually wasn't happy by loosing some names to CIG). Would it make sense put people who had not worked with Cryengine, re-writing its netcode?
