Update on Alpha 3.0

With my new x 52 pro its fun to play. Played alot the latest days. Trying different stuff :) Alpha is cool, it was well worth it ;) Though I cant call my self a vetaran pilot yet :p

Greetings,

Think of it this way. There are varying levels of enthusiasts with any game or anything else for that matter. By allowing those people to participate in the development or testing of the game they are hoping to increase the chances of the game being fully launched.

Personally I signed up for the Alpha because I am a rubbish pilot and I need as much practice as possible!

For those who don't want to or those who cannot afford it get to see the videos and hear the stories on the forum and simply wait for the BETA or GAMMA.

Well, this time it was reward for backers with pledges 200 bgp and more. Not really related with early access sales.

Once more, some seem to be equating a KS pledge-level with the current Alpha sales pricing in the store.

IMO the 2 are very different, even though they were for the same price and giving some of the same thing. The KS pledge-level offered much greater value, with potentially long-lasting influence over design of the final product. Ergo the current shop offer is comparatively overpriced and, by definition, of limited and diminishing value.

If in doubt, wait and see how many are still buying Alpha when Beta arrives.

I agree with this assessment. Didn't stop me from buying into it though.

I see nothing wrong with people saying it's not worth it for themselves. I also see nothing wrong with people saying it is worth it for themselves.

It's clearly subjective. If it's worth it for you good. If it's not worth it for you... also good.

Problems arrise when one party tries to tell another party whether it's worth it or not. It's up to me to decide... not up to you to tell me.

(This post is not aimed at anyone in particular... just a generic observation)

Absolutely! :) And to the seller, something is only ever worth what someone else will pay for it.... (although there's often also a longer-term view of retaining customers for their repeat business).

But that's not the point. People wanted FD to continue to sell Alpha access, and they wanted to upgrade, as they will want upgrade to premium beta. Michael have said that they would have much easier life if they would stop offering alpha altogether. There's no serious income in doing this, and they are primary interested in retail sales.

I have no problem with you seeing it as deal you don't like, but don't please overgeneralize. It is your personal subjective experience, as ours is that it was worth it.

I'm patiently waiting for the beta but I really would like to be able to see these.

A complete log of updates and fixes is available. (Alpha Backers only)
A Developers log is available here. (Alpha Backers only).

I can understand why they are not public, but how about read access to beta backers ?

I wont pay £200 for a game, My own personal view different strokes for different folks, its their money and we should just leave it at that.

As the W.O.P.R computer said in 'War Games' back in the 80's...

"The only way to win is not to play"

As an Alpha backer I'm more than happy to have made the KS choices I made. FD have enabled others to upgrade to Alpha, which is great... or not depending on one's opinion.

Choices have been made and scenes have been set -Alpha - Beta - Gamma - Retail - you're all the same to me (Players / Enthusiasts) - let's keep this on the level of fun, that one would hope or expect from any game.

I wont pay £200 for a game

I backed the game to alpha level early in the kickstarter, so I didn't BUY anything - I GAVE FD £200 in order to help get the project started. As thanks for my support, FD granted me (& all the others like me) alpha access. I would have pledged the money anyway, even without backer rewards because like many others I wanted more than anything to be able to play a new Elite.
We also get the collector's edition boxed game & all additional content free, which at retail prices probably won't be far off £200. Does it still sound too much for a game ?

If I was cynical <cough> I might even wonder about how much a collector might pay for the unopened boxed game a few years from now. ;)

People who pledged for alpha access thought it was worthwhile and something they wanted to experience and enjoy. It was there choice. So basically your saying people who willingly paid for it got ripped off, would disagree with you. In fact I am disagreeing with you. I don't feel ripped off, I knew that alpha access would be buggy (phase one was really bug free for the most part), and phase 2 is very playable but at times crashes often. It was what we expected, in fact there were posts saying. This is more like it, we are finally testing things as it does break. People were actually happy about it and posting bug reports left and right.

Ripped off? Maybe it would be for you, so speak for yourself. For me I am enjoying it and not feeling anything but excitement looking forward to alpha 3.0 like the majority of us are.

As for the play it your way I always took it to mean play it in any style you want as an individual. You choose what you want to do, nothing is decided for you in advance. Do what you want, when you want and how you want. Not how we want, or others want, or how FD even wants you to play. If the game supports it, you can do it, if they don't and you have a work around feel free to do it your way. So want a guild organize it outside of the game. Again play it your way but not forced on the rest or supported by people's money against it.

All money raised should be used to better the game for everyone. Not for guild support that will not help people not in a guild. No guild content or special gear. Nothing should be added to the game that anyone person can not have access to playing the game as a lone wolf. In other words, no special content requiring groups to work for it. No items unavailable unless worked on as a group, unless you can get npc's to make it happen. So again a lone wolf has the same exact options as everyone else. If that ever goes by the way side and groups required the play it your way goes out the window. No one wants that I hope.

I agree Calebe; The core Elite game with the included feature ideas from the DDF. The game as its going appears to cater to almost all of us. We don't need Guilds.

Agreed. Those of us that wanted to, did. Those that didn't, well, I guess they didn't. Neither side should be castigated for their choices.
