My opinion, keep it as it is, unless the frog goons decide to go on a rampage and annoy a load of people I am sure they will get left alone, I mean they are nice, quite friendly ED goons, its not like they are code pad campers.
Buck I wasn't singling you out to be rude to you, if you took it that way I apologize, I was using your post as to why some of us repeat things so often. Always enjoy new people joining in, hoping they have new ideas. It is just the arguments that are old, though some people come up with good ideas and we try to nurture that even though the likelihood of Devs seeing it is slim and none.
As for the comments someone else said about influences should only be changed in Open. Why should only one section of the populace effect the background for everyone else? People in solo and in groups have every right to effect the background and do so in the same way that open does. Having the ability to shoot someone does not mean that your opinion or actions should be the only one that counts.
You have to sell a vision after all.
<snip>
The reason for this is simple; player supported factions. Frontier has decided that players should have the ability to associate with factions, support them, and ultimately influence them. This will inevitably result in players coming into conflict with each other, and competing via the influence system and the BGS. Currently that conflict can be circumvented via solo/group play, and in my opinion that's poor game design. If player A wants to harm a group associated with player B, player B should have a way of preventing that directly. I have no problem with X-Box players being able to influence the game via open, since other X-Box players can interact with them. I am opposed to solo play having any ability to modify faction influence whatsoever.
Yes, I am a Goon. As far as I know that's the SA group.

Code Vs Goons !!!!
OMG !
That would be so AWESOME![]()
Now you make me think dark thoughts, if you read my link to the Diamond Frogs their post reads "We don't hold ties to anyone other than the one signing our checks. There's one or two powers out there that get a pass from us, but if they want our help, they pay us. You keep paying us, you don't have a blessed thing to worry about. Simple system and so far it has worked great."

OK Goons, just one chance, agree towipe outplay pew pew with the code now or I will put itching powder in your space suits (in solo), I am serious!![]()
This needs quoting again, people you are sleepwalking though this thread, the posters in this thread are getting a little "sloppy", myself included, I don't think anyone noticed this is actually a new idea, it might have been used in other arguments but never against solo and groups being able to affect minor factions (obviously player sponsored ones).
We should recognise and discuss, this comes from the hive like mind of the ED Goons https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=169599&page=517&p=3023503&viewfull=1#post3023503, sorry a Diamond Frog paint skin just became transparent on a goon lol.

I think I am psychic, that paragraph got my spidey senses going.
Dave
Normally an OK guy, can turn into the "voice of solo undermining and asymmetrical warfare" if riled.
Often riled my the voice of open / original Mobius invader!
And what about the instancing ?
Open can have a max of 32 people including yourself in 1 instance island - after that, another persons instance island is used.
If you have too many people defending and my latency won't take it, then the match maker will just d rop me into a single instance in Open mode.
So the game is starting to get played the way it has meant to be played? OMG! It's a Halloween Miracle.
From what sifting I can do, the community is split 40% want them split, 40% don't, and 10% don't care. It's a pretty even split, folks, so this is, most likely, the argument that will never end, and will never make progress.
Instancing is an unfortunate part of the game, and I would love to see FD eventually open up instancing limits as technology becomes more available. In the interim I would rather have an imperfect solution than no solution at all. I'd consider mastering the instancing mechanics to be no different from mastering the BGS.
I do wonder how the game would pan out if next Tuesday they bluntly informed us all they were locking Open and unless you logged in there next you would be unable to join without clearing your save.
I suppose a huge weight on that would be if it got its own BGS or not... how many would go, how many would stay?
Personally if FDev could afford the finance and resources to do it I would say "split and be damned". So long as Solo and private group were switchable it would be good enough for me.
I appreciate it would change things drastically for others.
My general position to defend the status quo is due to concerns about how much it would take from FDev to administer a split.
I think I would likely stay.
Financing and maintaining multiple BGS would be a consideration. I don't know how much expense that would actually add if they were to split. The bigger problem for my mind would be consistency.
FD have not just created a base sandbox and simply said, "There you go. Play as you will." They take an active involvement in adding and manipulating storylines in the galaxy as well as reporting on events as they occur. There are also player-initiated events that spring up as well. This, I believe, is a good thing. It adds a bit more 'content' to an otherwise lifeless galaxy.
Now imagine how difficult that would be (organising/promoting events, etc) if there were two simulations? We have just come off a CG against (well, I was against) Emperor's Dawn. What if the required basis for that conflict simply didn't exist in one of the simulations? If they were split, they will eventually take different paths as far as faction control, etc goes.
And this is only looking at the point of view that there would be two simulations. If we're splitting on the basis that Open shouldn't effect Solo and Solo shouldn't effect Open, then what about Groups? Should Mobius effect either Open or Solo? Does FD create a whole new BGS for every possible group?
I understand, in principle, the arguments saying that modes shouldn't have an effect on each other. But, from what I've mentioned above alone, what you would lose in terms of consistent storyline (and gain negatively in terms of additional cost, management, and complexity) become too great to warrant going down that path. If you're going to have different modes, it does make sense to have a single BGS.
Yeah, it would be multiple reality madness. The Cerberus plague was eradicated/is still raging, so Emperor Duval/Patreus has issued a decree forbidding/encouraging the sale of alien artifacts to any stations in the empire. Meanwhile there was great celebration/annoyance when Antal/DeLaine finally made it off the ten Powers. Now add xbox and groups and it's just off the wall. But hey, it would probably eliminate mode switching![]()

Great idea, the code don't care about their minor faction, the goons do.
Lets "pay" the goons (by not undermining the hell out of them to the point they all have to grind 24/7 to keep their faction), if they go keep the code so busy everyone can go play in open.
Frack I am getting emergent here, the code love a fight, as I am sure the goons do too, its a marriage made in heaven.
Someone get Gluttony and Tex on the phone, MODS, I need DBOBE to dial in, I think I just fixed open. Sorry, what ? not my idea FD designed it that way 3 years ago before I even heard of ED, OK! my mistake, you are geniuses.

Actually, you might start seeing mode switching purely to follow your preferred narrative.![]()
You know what, I like you, son.
You get to live. Unfortunately, you also gotta start paying rent. I expect your Diamond Frog application in the space-mail by next Thursday.
