Any news on no man's sky?I saw the trailer and it looks awesome. I'm really looking forward to it.

A game with 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 earth-sized planets for the player base to spread across? And where travel takes time? I kinda doubt you will see much PvP action in there. Specially because the game's multiplayer is being designed more as being about seeing what others did in the past than actually meeting other players.

Edit: prospective PS4 launch date, June 2016. Though there are rumors afloat that the devs are running into issues with the PS4 build, to the point they are using the PC build to demonstrate the game, despite the fact the PS4 version is supposed to launch first.

Nahh, singleplayer should only affect a single player. The BGS could be saved locally so we would have an offline mode as well! Would appreciate that because sometime I have connection issues :O

But you see the logic? If people in Open can complain that people in groups and solo can affect their play, surely solo players have grounds to complain that other solo players affecting their game is also wrong?

<grins> Next you'll be telling me that it's sunny in Scotland. Mind you, as I type, Sol has burned through the haze - and yes, it is bright.

An excellent day for the rugby final, methinks - go All Blacks!

There are great pure PVP games out there...League of Legends, many of the shooter games, War Thunder, etc. There is no reason that War Thunder could not be reskinned to 'make people believe' that they were in space. However, if the game tries to model space accurately, the current internet latencies would make anything truly competitive untenable.

Actually, if a game tries to model space accurately, it likely won't be fun to play. There is a reason most ships in space sims handle more like WW2 fighters than actual space craft. And yeah, that applies to ED too, the perceived speeds during a dogfight are very much WW2.

After all, it is already an issue with flight simulators that attempt to simulate modern fighters. And movies, for what matters; the action is slowed down and fighters brought closer together than in reality to make it look more interesting for the audience.

Funny you should mention that - as I type it is shining on the Shire.... ;)

Yes, and I complain about this as well. I want a SINGLEplayer mode. Not a solomode. Basically the reason why I only play open. Solo-multiplayer is something like sweet vegetables. It just doesn't fit together.

I can understand if a solo player gets annoyed by actions of others who will never participate in his/her game.

Ahh, so you're a remnant of Offline-Gate - I'd have figured we'd have had more of your kind in here to be honest.
It is a darn shame there wasn't an Offline Game for you, I joined for the multiplayer aspect of Elite: Dangerous so never paid any attention to an Offline game.

So while Open advocates argue things like and Open Only mode or the BGS should be Open Only, your standpoint is going to be a static BGS for Solo? So you do not feel like you are playing with others.

Also, just because in your opinion Solo Online Multiplayer does not sit well with you - in my opinion it was a genius move to allow people to be a part of the community while playing alone.
After all, why should those who want to play alone not be part of the community if they wish to be ?

It is sunny in Scotland at the moment, (well, South Lanarkshire anyway), the natives are running for cover and indeed go All Blacks! :D

I have to admit, that I did not like the drop of the offline Solo mode at first - I was just about to back ED on KS, when I read about the cancellation of Offline Solo and subsequently decided not to back.
After the release I decided to give ED and its Solo online mode a chance, and haven't regretted it since. To me Online Solo is a good compromise - I can play on my own, but can still take part in CGs and other community events. I don't mind, that other players influence the BGS as I do - to me part of Elite games is the fact that my actions may mean anything to me, but nothing to the galaxy (this is also part of the charm of Elite to me)
And as an explorer I cannot wait to tag a system "Discovered by Neminem" (for the not Latin speakers: Discovered by Nobody - this is never getting old :D)

btw: it seems to me that a large portion of the ED community is British - just like we Germans are a large chunk of SC's community (at least some polls over at the RSI forums indicate so) - just an (possibly erroneous) observation ;)

Well, both games are being made by Brits.... so the best space games to ever be made are both coming from Britain :p

At least Germany has Egosoft's X-series coming close third to me - just please be so kind pretending Rebirth never happened (and don't shoot me, when I say even Rebirth has its moments) :D

I've never played the X-Series due to it being Single player.
But I must admit, it looks nice.

The nicknames for Rebirth were quite mean though, did it improve in the end or did it remain as bad as people said?

It did improve and there are still coming patches adding new content from time to time - in fact many games of the X-series had to be polished by patches after release. And Egosoft has always been adding content to their games for many years after the initial release. Another big asset to the X-series is the vast modding community (a big asset for many offline games offering mod support).

Still Rebirth is somehow a step back from the older games (expecially X3 and its addons) - at least to me and I think many others in the X-community.
