Aliens in Elite: Dangerous

It would be good to also have evidence of different past alien civilizations, maybe a planet or two with entire cities in ruins. On the Thargoids, to me they sound malevolent, violent and advanced similar to the Borg and the Shadows. What would be interesting to see is the Thargoids attacking any of the other alien races in the galaxy, in essence they are the galactic bullies and they love it.

It would be cool if "Ancient" civilisations were out there. Given the galaxy is ~15bn years old, and Sol less than 5bn, and we know there is other intelligent life, it seems odd that there wouldn't have been other civilisations who are no longer around. All FD would need to do is add some planets with "ruins" on them, and even better some ancient space debris.

That would be extremely cool to have some players be the thargoids

What would be nice would be pirates ambushing people in fake Thargoid ships. The first GalNet announcement would cause chaos, and then bitter disappointment when the truth is revealed. It would set the idea that Thargoids are just something that exists out there in the dark corners of our nightmares, whilst also paving the way for their arrival.

I'll bet this is in the works, with missions around these discoveries...

Some of those missions not available till planet landings...

Imagine if we were the First (Second after the Thargoids) Ones to reach Space

Is Soontil Thargoid or someone else, if it isn't a fake.
Two Sapient (bronze age?) species were wiped out by Humanity already.
There are many sentient alien life forms in the galaxy, look at all the rare goods.

Not that ancient Ruins aren't interesting, rather than them being ruins of ancient super advanced civilizations, it'd rather we find ruins of say iron age to nuclear age civilizations that died out.

Leave Space faring aliens (and a rouge AI) few in number so they can be fully developed and not be Alien race of Planet of hats we see in 4X games

Anyway, it would be a very nice thing, if explorers of the galaxy found some spacetravling races out there.
Some just have explored their own system, maybe has simple satelites around their home planet.
Some may have explore the nearest systems and it may possible to help them by trading supplies from one to another as a part of mission
Other races could be extreme act as enemies, because they know only one other race, which is an enemy.
They see all other ships, except their own, as foes, and have combat zones where they fight against them.
It may be possible to act within their fights, and got reputation to make one of them kind of friendly to get missions and finaly the right to trade within their systems.
They can have rare items we've never seen in our part of the galaxy and if someone trade it to our region it would be an amazing business. (Rare items that would be transported to a distance of 5000 LJ or more must have a very good price :) )

So much place for ideas and possibilities .... hope they will never end to implement new stuffs and content, that can only be reached by players, that are willing to explore the whole galaxy.
No need to post a message like "new races found at ....."
let the players found them as a totaly surprise by exploring
If some player found them, and comes back to our region, sells his scandata the information can be used by galnet ingame.. believe me, playercomunications in comunities will be faster as hell if someone found something strange out there :D

i would love to see simple "unidentified craft" that rarely appear in super cruise and perhaps teleport around before disappearing again xD or perhaps while in mid jump between systems!

I had the opportunity to go to a lecture put on by Prof Chris Lintott when he was recently here in New Zealand

It was an interesting discussion on the lonely universe, and one of the things that came up was that Intelligence seems to be a very poor option as far as evolution is concerned, so even though life might be abundant, intelligence might not be the best result for survival, so life might be abundant but intelligence might not as there are better ways to survive on whatever planet they are from.

Been also listening to some Neil deGrasse Tyson interviews and he also advocates this view, with some additional social commentary that our territorial nature is quite self destructive, so aliens who had it might self destruct/extinct themselves (as we as humans have avoided thus far in 3300) and if they lack it they might not have left their homeworld

Makes the lack of Intelligent space faring life in the Galaxy not that much of a disappointment but more that when we do come across then a more rare find, be the Sparefaring Thargoids, the ruins of a species that had a nuclear war with itself, or a race that never left its homeworld.

As I have said above, I really hope we avoid the 4x trope of all Aliens being a
[Animal]+[Racial stereotype] Planet of hats

Or something like in Prometheus... I mean... the cockpit of the ship already looked a bit like the one from my Asp... and they had bu...errm. SRVs too. :D

Imagine you run into an ancient temple-looking thing 20,000 light years from home.

Unless I'm losing my marbles, didn't David Braben hint at the possibility of other alien life apart from the Thargoids in the Q & A video the other day..? He didn't want to give much away in terms of spoilers though.
