Hi David,

I would definitely be interested to know what the issues are that you have been facing - it's always interesting to get a behind the scenes glimpse at the kind of issues faced during these crunch times.

Although the technical part would be like bouncers to me, I would also like to know more about the blockers.

Perfect!

I'm away this weekend anyway, that and i have to finish installing the network hardware to tidy all my "wire mess" as she calls it!

Hi David,

There are a number of issues (correctly guessed/spotted by some here), including some glitches when travelling down to the surface on some planet types. This morning I have seen the key part of a fix to this, but it still needs to be committed and tested. There have also been some blocking issues with gameplay, now mostly fixed, on some of the surface bases. For example there is a bug we have just found where generators and defences are not properly hooked up to the relevant part of the base, and security doors are not working correctly – issues which can make completing a mission impossible. There are also some polish issues like the streaming stall many people spotted (visible in my last ‘peek’ – where some textures and geometry appear very low res, as the high res versions hadn’t streamed in) which would not have stopped the beta going live, but should now be fixed anyway.

No problem and thank you for the update!

And I hope you and everyone at Frontier is remembering to take a break now and again ;-;

Honestly, this is so big... the 1:1 scale Milky Way is there... and now the first step, of being able to land on all those worlds, starting with those without atmosphere and volcanism. I'm happy to wait, and this is just for the beta after all. Delivering this is the first step of a ridiculously ambitious dream... good luck again to everyone!

I'm probably wrong, but it looked to me like one of the possible issues is that every ship needs to have enough ground clearance to deploy the Scarab underneath it and then allow the Scarab to drive out - and as a result, landing gear needs to be rejigged on some ships (saw it on the Viper Mk IV, so it'll probably heavily affect the Viper Mk III, Sidewinder and Diamondback among others). So either the ships needs to have a 'tiptoe' mode to allow it to land with the gear extended to give more clearance, and then settles lower down on its gear once a Scarab drives out from under it - though that sounds complicated, since it needs to raise again to let the Scarab back in. Also there might be an issue of allowable landing sites - it presumably has to be flat enough at all points under the ship, since if it's low and flat under the gear, but then there's an unfortunate hill just under the cargo hatch where the Scarab deploys, it might not have enough space to come out. This kind of thing sounds very simple, but actually the more I think about it, the more complicated it potentially gets.

Take your time David and the Frontier team. I'm planning on playing this game for many years to come, a few days late for a beta makes no difference.

Hi David,

Is there somebody looking through the feedback concerning beta 1.5 or is everybody working on the 2.0 beta?

And If you have the time I would love to hear some background that went into designing the cutter. Most people thought it will be a combat ship and it really only shines as a trader in my opinion.

Well spotted! That was an issue, but it has already been addressed. The Scarab auto-retracts its turret to get underneath. You could hear it when I returned to the Vulture in the video on Sunday.

Hello Mr. Braben,

I have a question on a matter that is not commented much: The Background Simulation. As you may know is having a few issues right now, specially in missions seemingly not having the desired effect. That, added to the recent influence cap, has made for an excruciating experience for many groups, as we don't see much progress -if any at all- after the last patch, over three weeks ago.

Will any of this be addressed with 1.5/2.0? My group feels demoralized and would like to know if we can hope for prompt fixes or just plan other activities for a longer period??

Thank you and kudos on the progress of the beta. So far looks amazing!

Thanks for giving us a date, it would have been agonizing to hear "a couple of days" and then not know when it was going to land lol :p

The wait will be worth it ;)
