A little disappointed in not being able to try it today, but that is exactly the right approach. Too many devs rush things out. I can wait for 6 more days.

Hi David,

I would definitely be interested to know what the issues are that you have been facing - it's always interesting to get a behind the scenes glimpse at the kind of issues faced during these crunch times.
Yeah I'd like to know :)
Not that I know the second thing about programming, but It'd be interesting

Am I correct that next 1.5 beta build will be released also on Monday alongside with 2.0 beta?

I'm betting everyone will be required to download 2.0 build. But only those with beta access to Horizon Beta will be able to visit planetary surfaces and do all of the cool stuff that comes with Horizons.

Thanks for the announcement .
I would like to know if (now that we will be landing on planets) Phobos and Deimos will be included in our solar system, or does the 'lore' state they were mined to extinction ?
Thanks again

Forgive me for being silly, but the very PURPOSE of a beta is to find bugs, and the fact that it is a beta denotes that there will be bugs. How can you have a polished beta? That just doesn't make sense. These days the whole beta seems more like early access, with all this 'it's not finished yet' OF COURSE IT ISN'T FINISHED, because it's a BETA.

Oh yes, as everyone says "take as long as you want." It's not as if we paid money for this beta access, is it.

I know everyone likes to have a happy-happy community spirit here; but I just want to put down that a few of us do actually realise there is a business deal going on here: we give FD money; they give us a product. I can accept a few days delays; but not the whole thanking them for that, and this essentially encouraging them to take as long as they want. No.
To be honest developers shouldn't be releasing betas knowing there are bugs. Known bugs from internal testing are meant to be wiped out during alpha. Beta is for stress testing, balancing, feedback on changes, and finding any smaller bugs which weren't noticed during alpha.

I wonder this too: what exactly they mean by "seamless" because the current supercruise/normal transition isn't really that seamless
The transition from supercruise to orbital flight is seamless, like flying into a station, but you'd have to drop out of orbital cruise like you drop out of supercruise to normal flight

It has already been taken, prior to 1.5.

1.5 Beta and 2.0 Beta will be playing in the same worlds - though we want to encourage 2.0 people to restart (don't worry - it won't affect your main game save), as we have a new on-the-surface start position.

(Oops - I think I just made an announcement...! :) )
Maybe my english isn´t good enough to understand but do i get you right when i consider it as optional or do i have to make a new Save for Beta?

It getting the big obvious bugs out of the way. An you don't want game breaking bugs which means the game doesn't run on PCs. In a ideal world the only bugs you want in an open beta are bugs which happens at scale so issues networking code, BGS, community goals, issues with exploration data or are bugs that are very rare or issues with graphics cards and drivers, as there are an impossible amount of combinations to test internally.

It's all cool - I've been kept out of the 1.5 beta and main game by net issues on my end, this just gives me another week to get it fixed :)

Thanks for the update!

Q: if our systems are below minimum spec, can we still test? Will Horizons have a software lock that prevents those systems from running Horizons?

No, they've already taken a snapshot of the galaxy state. Beta is launched as a separate product from the Launcher application.

Optional.

The main point is that if you are already in the 1.5 Beta, it sounds like your current position in 1.5 beta will be retained, so they will not re-import your commander for 2.0 beta.

Wonder what's behind this announcement... I agree starting from scratch on the surface would be great, but I don't think this solely is enough to convince me to re-grind my way up again. Really looking forward to what FDEV has that will "encourage 2.0 people to restart" :)

Oh you sneaky you ;)

I have already decided to reset my save for Horizons, but Beta will be with my current save... That is if I'll be able to play it. I'm moving to a new apartment later this week (and starting a new job on Monday, YAY!), and will not have internet access for some time, so no 'early beta' for me :(
I just hope there still are some nice low-level missions, that do not require 80t of cargo to be transferred. I won't be able to squeeze that much into my Sidy...

...

Ah, poo... I just spoiled my "New Season - New Beginning" thread...

Well the idea of beta is to test before it goes live. So I guess if no one restarts in beta then they won't ever get the new starting position system tested properly.

Thanks, I appreciate the update! As consolation, is there any chance you can grant Beta purchasers who are buying ED for the first time access to the base game? I'd love to be able to get in and start playing even if the Beta isn't ready to go.
