DAM ! now need a second excuse to 'be sick - off work' for Monday... and I had my cough, cough...down pat ...you'd have been proud cough cough of me..
.

I hate to do this, but I have bad news: The Beta will be (at some point) delayed another day, and will be released on Tuesday.

I have been planning to take the day off work the day the beta releases, and enjoy all the planetary landings that I can get out of my DK2.

But.

Taking Tuesday off is going to be colossally inconvenient, and probably won't happen. :(

So don't blame DB when it happens. You can blame me.

Following up on my previous post, the team are still working very hard indeed. We are not ready to go live with the beta today as we have already indicated was likely. We are very sorry about this, but it is not yet ready for a proper beta test because of some blocking issues. I will keep everyone posted over the next few days, and will check in on this thread from time to time for the next hour today, and will post more details here on those issues for those that are interested. We are confident in the Monday 30th date as we already have the key components to fix the issues we are seeing.

Once again, we are very sorry, and we thank you all for your support.

RIGHT ON CMDR!

David

Rather take a delay over a botched release any day.

People are gonna moan but ignore them, take your time and get it right.

Hi commanders.
It's been more than one year since I frist heard about Elite: Dangerous. It was someone in a web page that posted a video of an asteroid field. Some weeks later I saw another video of somebody entering a huge cubic station. I was amazed. "Goodness me!" I thought, as I had never seen anything so impressive, and when I reached home I bought everything that I could regarding this universe - Elite: Dangerous + Lifetime explansions. 80€! Just that for an entire galaxy to explore and a lot of wonderful space stations where to land and deal with goods and weapons! And aaaaall of that just for the price of 3 or 4 meals that would last for a few hours. I couldn't beleive!
I was getting all of that by Christmas (I bought it in september 2014). Since then I have had dozens of hours of wonderful playing and have travelled thousands of lightyears in the galaxy. At the moment I am getting delighted discovering new worlds and reading about them in the descriptions (and learning a lot of astrophisics). Visiting far and exotic planet rings full of different huge floating rocks and pieces of ice. Every night, when I arrive home, I love to get in my ship and imagine I am there, alone, relaxed, enjoying the wonders of the galaxy (by the way, I can't wait to have a HMD to really get away and be there!).
So, after all this, some questions come to my minds, along with the answers right away:

1. Do I think Elite: Dangerous is expensive or would be expensive for 40 or 50 a year if I had not got the lifetime expansions?
- Absolutely not. As I said, just for the price of a few meals, or some drinks in some places, ED is a present. Have you ever had a look at the "Credits" option in the game? There is a huge amount of professionals that work hard so that we can enjoy thousands of incredible details that, usually slip away unnoticed. Imagine the number of code lines that need to be written so that all those details and all the phisics are there for us.

2. Can I wait for Horizons Beta some days more than advertised?
- Absolutely yes. I will wait whatever it takes. One day? One month? ... WHATEVER IT TAKES! I am sure that we will have the best game ever. The team will and is doing it for us. In fact I don't think there is a better game than ED at the moment, and if this keeps as it is at the moment, I doubt there will ever be another one that compares to ED.

Thanks a lot Frontier Developments team.

I threw up a little in my mouth.

Nobody minds delays (or they shouldn't)
Far more important that they get it right and I think the vast majority of people understand that.

No worries, I can (still) wait. In any case, I'm away for the weekend, so from a somewhat self-centric perspective, it will make little difference.

Work hard (but not too hard)!

:D S

I'd love to see a video with a bit more combat - specifically driving about in a Scarab at speed while shooting. It'd be nice to see more, as I suspect it's not that easy. There has been one video posted of the turret being used, but it's not moving much; and of the Scarabs racing around, but not firing. I'd love to see both. :)

Take all the time needed. My HOTAS broke a couple of weeks back and waiting for it to be fixed and sent back to me. Don't want to fly around the planets without it! :p

I think he means from orbit to the surface.

errmm cough cough yes that would be cool, cough cough goood idea . make up video.. cough cough...
.
I feel yellow fever ,or maybe plague with a touch of " a spider bite whilst gardening on sunday arvo,' coming on ... yeppp can feel it ........ can see I need a lot of bed rest on Monday....:)

Secretly the Devs want another week to finish their SRV racing tournaments.

Anyways id rather the game came out in beta some what bug free and enjoyable then buggy and broken.

If any of you are wondering what Elite is like in a VR headset. Its INSANE. I get a sensory shock every time I go from the limited loading screen of my ship to full blown surrounded by the cockpit. It wakes you up and your like "Whoa, hello other world". I always sit up in my seat a little cuz :):):):) just go real. This game is crazy.

For those new to joining the game, please keep in mind the following.

Based on the experience of the last 18 months, then FD says they are going to release on a certain date, this does not mean at 0.01 on that date. It means some time that day up to midnight (UK time).

This is not like GTA or whatever where the game went gold weeks earlier and they are just releasing it at midnight for everyone. The decision to release or not is probably made only on the morning of the release day.

Typically they didn't release the beta until late in the day or the evening of that day (UK time). I can only remember once when a significant release came in the morning.

Also, as we've seen this week, beta release dates are not set in stone and can change due to unexpected issues.

Therefore it's probably not a good idea to plan your whole day or week on Monday around playing the beta, unless you have a backup plan if it's delayed to the evening or later.

Also keep in mind this is the biggest release since the original beta testing was taking place - there could easily be significant issues with some combinations of hardware or some players when it goes live which leaves small groups unable to play for a short time, so for this reason also it's best not to expect to be able to play full time immediately.

Finally, based on previous roll-outs, you can be pretty sure that whatever you do in the beta system will not carry forward into the live system, so unless FD say different, if you are a new player just joining, you should assume that you will lose all activity that you made during beta when the final release happens.
