News Horizons Beta Delay to Monday 30th November

I personally expect a beta to have faults, that's why we bought into it, to help.... Not to keep getting shoved back.

Yes it's ALL great and yes we WILL all wait until it is released, BUT, you need to recognise that even with all the best will in the world, it has not been handled very business like (as far as charging and dates etc go).

But I am STILL massively looking forward to it "whenever we get it" and I do appreciate ALL the hard work that's gone into all of Elite Dangerous. But equally, people do need to stop praising the devs for delaying it and realise that's wrong as well.

As I said in an earlier post (which was removed):
I'm a business person and I would NOT get away with advertising a product with a date and charging for that product, then NOT delivering it. But that's maybe just my point of view. Frontier or whoever, could have done more to announce the delay, like putting it on their store nice and clear or even better, on the Launcher.

Also, as a business person, I do realise that things don't always go to plan, especially as we employ human-beings and one thing they're great at, is making mistakes (being polite here!!). The problem or issue isn't the actual problem, it's how you deal with it, that can make you stand out better than other companies. Even a very bad situation can be turned round, especially when you have such a dedicated fan base like the community here. Just don't take them for granted, because what you have with your fans is special and they will tolerate it, but there's still a limit. They should never feel like they've been taken for granted, just like the Devs should never think "Ah, we'll just put it back another few days, they'll not mind" and think it's ok.

Go ahead and name one product (software or even firmware related that has not suffered this process), if you really think that all developers have the mentality you described then you could not be further from the truth, all the hard working developers I have come across over the years including the upper management absolutely hate not releasing on time, at least FD actually tells you within their own forums that they have delayed this beta release, a lot don't even respond back to there customers at all.

Beta testing is testing after all, and even at this stage show stoppers can appear even after the alpha release and as such the beta release quite rightly has been delayed, be a little bit more patient and respectful to the FD team, after all it not like they planned it and I can assure you they will be working not stop into putting things right just to get this out to us as soon as possible.

Unless you are talking about system to system travel and then in the Gameworld you can't just fly between the two at normal speed or super cruise.
It was tested before by somebody. You can technically cover the distance between one solar system to another in supercruise. But when you arrive there's nothing there. You have to do fsd jump. But you can fly from one planet to another at normal speed, if you have time :D

It has already been taken, prior to 1.5.

1.5 Beta and 2.0 Beta will be playing in the same worlds - though we want to encourage 2.0 people to restart (don't worry - it won't affect your main game save), as we have a new on-the-surface start position.

(Oops - I think I just made an announcement...! :) )

Oohh, so it's possible to begin a career on a surface? Does a player get a choice on start, or is it random?

I have already been considering resetting my career when I get Horizons, could be quite fun.

And thanks, Sir, for the updates on Horizons' progress!

Why? its an perc for the ones who where kickstarters and or bought the alpha ,premium beta or lifetime expansion pass.

in the same way the new Cobra MKIV and a free Viper MKIV are percs .

Then let me say as someone with all those perks: go ahead give everyone access. :)

Forgive me for being silly, but the very PURPOSE of a beta is to find bugs, and the fact that it is a beta denotes that there will be bugs. How can you have a polished beta? That just doesn't make sense. These days the whole beta seems more like early access, with all this 'it's not finished yet' OF COURSE IT ISN'T FINISHED, because it's a BETA.

Oh yes, as everyone says "take as long as you want." It's not as if we paid money for this beta access, is it.

I know everyone likes to have a happy-happy community spirit here; but I just want to put down that a few of us do actually realise there is a business deal going on here: we give FD money; they give us a product. I can accept a few days delays; but not the whole thanking them for that, and this essentially encouraging them to take as long as they want. No.

Well thks. Agrar Therenus; I guess the 'glass half empty crowd' need to have a base of some sort to build from...

Do you mean we have an option to start on the surface with only a SRV and then have to earn enough money to buy our first Sidewinder?

I really hope this is what you mean, because that is part of the fantasy of "Elite 4" I've had for many years before ED came along...

Start off on the surface without any kind of vehicle and then work yourself "upwards".

Walking (nearby settlement/city)--> Planetary ground vehicle (easier access to nearby settlements/cities) --> "Airplane" (access to the entire planet) --> Orbital ship (get easier access to the planet and orbital stations) --> Interplanetary ship (solar/star system access) --> Hyperspace capable ship (the rest of the galaxy and where we start off now). This would mean that it would take quite a while before people even reached our current start position.

Hi commanders.
It's been more than one year since I frist heard about Elite: Dangerous. It was someone in a web page that posted a video of an asteroid field. Some weeks later I saw another video of somebody entering a huge cubic station. I was amazed. "Goodness me!" I thought, as I had never seen anything so impressive, and when I reached home I bought everything that I could regarding this universe - Elite: Dangerous + Lifetime explansions. 80€! Just that for an entire galaxy to explore and a lot of wonderful space stations where to land and deal with goods and weapons! And aaaaall of that just for the price of 3 or 4 meals that would last for a few hours. I couldn't beleive!
I was getting all of that by Christmas (I bought it in september 2014). Since then I have had dozens of hours of wonderful playing and have travelled thousands of lightyears in the galaxy. At the moment I am getting delighted discovering new worlds and reading about them in the descriptions (and learning a lot of astrophisics). Visiting far and exotic planet rings full of different huge floating rocks and pieces of ice. Every night, when I arrive home, I love to get in my ship and imagine I am there, alone, relaxed, enjoying the wonders of the galaxy (by the way, I can't wait to have a HMD to really get away and be there!).
So, after all this, some questions come to my minds, along with the answers right away:

1. Do I think Elite: Dangerous is expensive or would be expensive for 40 or 50 a year if I had not got the lifetime expansions?
- Absolutely not. As I said, just for the price of a few meals, or some drinks in some places, ED is a present. Have you ever had a look at the "Credits" option in the game? There is a huge amount of professionals that work hard so that we can enjoy thousands of incredible details that, usually slip away unnoticed. Imagine the number of code lines that need to be written so that all those details and all the phisics are there for us.

2. Can I wait for Horizons Beta some days more than advertised?
- Absolutely yes. I will wait whatever it takes. One day? One month? ... WHATEVER IT TAKES! I am sure that we will have the best game ever. The team will and is doing it for us. In fact I don't think there is a better game than ED at the moment, and if this keeps as it is at the moment, I doubt there will ever be another one that compares to ED.

Thanks a lot Frontier Developments team.

+1 for this great lucidity

I have been here from the start (pretty much) and I can understand WIZZ_OK .. they brought the game (although I am not sure about the release date for Horizons Beta being fact, I could be wrong) But someone buys into a game, gets excited about playing it ... and then gets told you have to wait another week .. it's gonna Pee you off .. no-one can say it wouldn't.

FD are doing a great Job ... that's a fact ... but come on .. David Braben is experienced .. and FD have always been careful on announcing things/release date (apart from the kickstarter dates ... wow ... 5 months late for the P.beta :) ) David Braben messed up by announcing this when he did and people are wound up, that's on him ... and I hope that he stops listening to the "when" crowd and keeps stuff like this quiet, as it was before.

Looking forward to Monday ... and please respect people who may be a bit miffed ... they are looking forward to this as much as we were during the KickStarter ... Give them a break and assure them that the wait will be worth it...

Be Nice .... Eat Cake.

I can't seem to find this anywhere. When will the current 1.5 beta go live? Or is it connected to Horizon somehow?

At the same time Horizons does.

Beta 1.5 ------------------------------------------------------> Release
_________________________Beta 2.0 ---------------------> Release

Well, I'm not going to sugar-coat: that really sucks, and pretty much ruins the plans I had for this holiday weekend. I think a lot of us were looking forward to spending this long weekend testing the new content.

I think it would be helpful from a customer standpoint to better understand what kind of specific issues are holding up the release. Critical functional or stability issues are entirely valid reasons to repeatedly slip a date like this, but if it's just texture streaming or other cosmetic stuff, that's the kind of thing the beta is for.

Well he also mentioned a planet landing issue on the other 'types' of planets; that they have the solution but need to implement and test it. Seems like this would count...

Originally 1.5 and 2.0 were going to be released at the same time to give everyone something shiny for the holidays. As far as I know we're still on track for that.

"Here is the Horizons Beta everyone!!! Have fun exploring these new worlds!!!

Oh...BTW...the game will crash if you try to land on planets..."
