It was tested before by somebody. You can technically cover the distance between one solar system to another in supercruise. But when you arrive there's nothing there. You have to do fsd jump. But you can fly from one planet to another at normal speed, if you have time :D

Yep, just trying to be clear about it being said the gameworld is never instanced.

I thought 11/24 was a bit ambitious, but FD has done such great work, I figured, they know their time table better than me. But everyone makes errors when doing projections so I fully understand. Like FD, I and many others want to produce a quality products, especially if it has our name on it. So this delay is totally understandable. We definitely don't need showstopper bugs.

Thanks for all the hard work. I'm eagerly looking forward to the beta and putting my landing gear on a planetary surface, but I can wait. I'd rather have it be good than good and fast as good and fast is usually not so good (unless you spend hundreds of millions of dollars).

Go ahead and name one product (software or even firmware related that has not suffered this process), if you really think that all developers have the mentality you described then you could not be further from the truth, all the hard working developers I have come across over the years including the upper management absolutely hate not releasing on time, at least FD actually tells you within their own forums that they have delayed this beta release, a lot don't even respond back to there customers at all.

Beta testing is testing after all, and even at this stage show stoppers can appear even after the alpha release and as such the beta release quite rightly has been delayed, be a little bit more patient and respectful to the FD team, after all it not like they planned it and I can assure you they will be working not stop into putting things right just to get this out to us as soon as possible.

Absolutely agree with you; your getting rep !

It has already been taken, prior to 1.5.

1.5 Beta and 2.0 Beta will be playing in the same worlds - though we want to encourage 2.0 people to restart (don't worry - it won't affect your main game save), as we have a new on-the-surface start position.

(Oops - I think I just made an announcement...! :) )

Oh that's just decided for me - Clear save on Full release of 2.0
;-)

Whats the workday like what are the devs hours? If anyone can please let me know? Plus take the time you need. I dont want it to end up being a rushed thing like most Triple A titles are these days rushed pieces of crap that need like 5 or 10 patches before there optimized better and there decently okay to play.

Following up on my previous post, the team are still working very hard indeed. We are not ready to go live with the beta today as we have already indicated was likely. We are very sorry about this, but it is not yet ready for a proper beta test because of some blocking issues. I will keep everyone posted over the next few days, and will check in on this thread from time to time for the next hour today, and will post more details here on those issues for those that are interested. We are confident in the Monday 30th date as we already have the key components to fix the issues we are seeing.

Once again, we are very sorry, and we thank you all for your support.

RIGHT ON CMDR!

David

So, does that mean no Developer Update for this week either?

So, does that mean no Developer Update for this week either?

Good question...I'm guessing its a no, though the Newsletter is likely still on its way as they can bang those out with majority community content anyway. (as long as we get a few screenies!)

I just said last week "take all the time that you need, to fix anything before give it to us", and in fact this is what happened.

Glad that you postponed; once again, take all the time that you need. Since you are there; think again and again about the mechanic that you are adding; just in case that there is still room for change something.

Being in Beta means that you are done and ready to push for release, once that the mass of players file the bugs for you guys, but there is always room for making a great game; and this usually start from great mechanics.

Just look at Space Engineers for example. They implemented planets; it works just fine as preliminary release, and opened up a whole world of complexity and scenarios, related to atmospheric flight, re-entry and escape from gravity; resource managements and such.

I know that ED is not in the same league as SE, but if you talk about freedom and sandboxing a game; then you have plenty of inspiration to take from such games.

Keep up the good work and pack a great build for us to test!

**** happens. No worries, its better for everyone that as stable a release can be done, for the sake of poor defenceless keyboards around the world that don't deserve the kind of abuse many give, but few admit.

On a selfish note, while you have delayed it ( and I am on a late shift so wasn't too affected this day), you could have bloomin well delayed it to one of my days off, not another first bloomin late! Gah, I need to send you guys my roster pattern so you can start behaving yourselves.

Get some rest guys, do your bit, release when in a ready to test state.

Forgive me for being silly, but the very PURPOSE of a beta is to find bugs, and the fact that it is a beta denotes that there will be bugs. How can you have a polished beta? That just doesn't make sense. These days the whole beta seems more like early access, with all this 'it's not finished yet' OF COURSE IT ISN'T FINISHED, because it's a BETA.

Oh yes, as everyone says "take as long as you want." It's not as if we paid money for this beta access, is it.

I know everyone likes to have a happy-happy community spirit here; but I just want to put down that a few of us do actually realise there is a business deal going on here: we give FD money; they give us a product. I can accept a few days delays; but not the whole thanking them for that, and this essentially encouraging them to take as long as they want. No.

You're not being silly. But. The purpose of a beta is not solely to find bugs, however you define 'bug'.
All software, irrespective at what stage they are at in development, maintenance etc. have bugs. So saying 'beta' software is synonymous with software having bugs is saying all software is in beta whether open beta or closed beta.

And let's not forget that after finding a bug it does not necessarily mean the bug will be 'fixed'. :)

One thing of note though. I agree with you that FD has achieved the nice feat of getting people to pay for the 'privilege' of being beta testers by waving the carrot of early access under their flaring nostrils.
Some people just can't wait!:p
